Fraudulent
Received calls from 800-446-0664 7/13/14 (2 calls) and 7/14/14 (1 call) on my cell phone. When I Googled the number, all of the listings say the caller pretends to be from Wells Fargo Bank. I contacted Wells Fargo 7/13/14 at 6pm ET and they verified this telephone number IS NOT FROM WELLS FARGO -- it is a scam. If anyone says differently, they are lying. Call Wells Fargo yourself to check:

It's a real Wells Fargo number.  If you don't trust it just call the number on the card.  Or find one from the website.  Every time I use the card out of state I get a call from this number to verify the charges.

I called back the number on my card, and I do have a Wells Fargo account. My account had been hit with fraudulent activity. I recommend calling Wells Fargo (through the number on the back of the card) and asking to speak to Fraud Prevention if you get a call from this phone number.

Received call from this number within 5 minutes of making a large purchase, and it knew the amount of not only that transaction but also the previous 3.

After answering the questions, I read this string and called the number on the card. Eventually spoke to a rep who confirmed the call had originated from them, knowing down to the minute when it was made. Her not knowing the number that called me was of no concern.

Also note I did NOT answer the call when it came in but called it back.  Would be hard to spoof me calling them.

I just got a computer call from 800-446-0664 and it asked to verify my last 5 transactions.  It knew the phone number I was calling from and asked my billing zip code.  Neither is special info and it asked for NO more than that.  It knew the right values of the last 5 transactions and that's all it asked.  I called Wells Fargo Fraud department at 800-869-3557 and talked with a rep and asked about the 800-446-0664 number and was told that it IS a valid number for their automated (computer) system.
Check:

for info....

I received a call from this number on my cell which is not where I usually receive calls from Wells Fargo.  They said they were calling about a credit card but I don't have a credit card with Wells Fargo just savings and checking.  I called Wells Fargo's real number from their website and they said that 800-446-0664 is NOT a Wells Fargo number.  They said not to call that number back. I assume the folks who are posting here the number is for real are the scammers. If you are concerned by the fraud alert call a Wells Fargo number you can trust.

You lying sloppy IDIOT scammer: The last 4 digits is EXACTLY what identifies your Credit Card number. The Scammers have the general upper numbers (from stolen credit cards and from well documented bank codes), it's the last sets of digits that are unique to each card holder.

Scamming scum can't win on these board (you mathematically challenged morons), because the number of people receiving the calls way outnumbers the scammers making the calls. If you people were so smart, you wouldn't be engaged in this weakminded business, you'd be getting the big money for developing real software. So you'll get swamped everytime you lie.

Number left a message which was partially mangled voicemail.  After the advice here I called the 'real' Wells Fargo fraud number and it turned out that they had, in fact, been trying to reach me.

This NOT a scam. I just got a call from this number and they left an automated voicemail asking me to call them. Being suspicious, I called the number on the back of my card instead. They verified that the 800-446-0664 number is a legitimate WF number for their fraud department.

This is the 3rd call since last May 2013 - NOT Wells Fargo. This is Caller ID spoofing. The practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's Caller ID display that is not that of the actual originating station. Also, I don't have an account with them.

Yes, it is from Wells Fargo.

I have been making frequent purchases on an app and so they were suspicious. Good to know they are checking up on their clients.

I have received calls from this number a few times in the past several days.

I have not answered.

I checked with WF on a different 800 number and everything is fine with my new card transactions.
But my old VISA card # was used in an out of state fraud scam about a month and half ago and had to be cancelled.

I'm not sure if there is any correlation between the 2 incidents.

I received a voicemail from this phone number.  The message said it was Wells Fargo asked me to call back to verify some recent charges on my Mastercard.  I suspected the phone call was a  fraud, so I called the 800 # on the back of the credit card (800 642 4720) and spoke to an agent.  She verified that my record showed that the fraud department had indeed just left me a message due to some suspicious activity on my card.

I verified the activity on my card; it was all mine. Out of curiosity, though, I asked the agent if she was familiar with or has the 800-446-0664 on her list of Wells Fargo numbers.  She said, "no." Thus, I believe this is the reason many believe that the phone number is illegitimate/fraudulent.  Perhaps Wells Fargo should publish this number so that all of us, including all of their employees, can be aware of the number and verify it when it is checked.

This number calls me all the time when I make a large or unusual purchases.
When you call the number back, it only asks you some very general information.  Such as zip code and last four of your credit card number.  Note that this information is useless to anyone.  A scammer needs your full card number and it is never asked by the automated system.  After you provide the information, the system goes on to verify your last 5 to 10 transactions.

If the system was fraudulent, it would not know about your transactions from the past 10 days.

This is completely legit and I stand by this.  I am glad that the bank does this!

I got a message from this number, but I never trust people who call me about personal/account information so I called the number on the back of my card instead and asked to talk to the fraud department. They confirmed that the call was in fact legitimate and had me confirm the last few transactions on my card.

Regardless of whether the number is legitimate or not, you should NEVER give personal information to someone who calls you on the phone, and you should never call back a number given by someone you calls you on the phone. Instead, call the number on the back of your card and ask for an operator to transfer you to the fraud department.

I WORK FOR WELLS FARGO and don't believe the posts that state the number is legit. It's the scammers themselves. Call the number on your card or the CS number on your statement ONLY!

Y'all all of this is BS. If you know anything about everything you should know that a bank would never ask you for your account number or social security number right away. If a number calls you and automatically asks for your account info, don't waste your time. The majority of the time, these posts are fake too. Don't follow the links. Just go to the website on your own and spend 2 minutes finding the correct number to call. It shouldn't take a high schooler to knock some sense into you. If you have Wells Fargo, go to wellsfargo.com. It's easy enough to navigate that you shouldn't have problems going to find the correct number. Also, if you are ever convinced the number is real, press 0 to connect directly to an operator. Every single Wells Fargo number has this feature. If you press 0 and nothing happens, it's fake.

These people have been calling me for the past few days asking for a Jane Chappel or a last name similar to that, I called the number got an automated message asking if I had got the notice via phone or letter in mail. I answered phone and in the beginning it recognized  my cell phone number and ask if that was where the call had been received then it asked for the last 4 digits of my card which I produced a fake 4 digits, talked to someone who did not identify themselves as being part of Wells Fargo when they answered the phone and I proceeded to give my first name only which wasn't my real name and told them that the person they were calling for was not at this number. Plus I don't even have a Wells Fargo CC. Go figure.  The female said she would put my number as not a good number. So hope this stops the annoying calls. If they are scammers they messed up somewhere since I am not the person they are looking for and I don't have a Wells Fargo CC.

NOT a legitimate Wells Fargo number. I called a Wells Fargo banker and they notified me that this is NOT a real phone number. They told me to report this at reportphish@wellsfargo.com -- These people call you AFTER there are already unauthorized charges on your card, AFTER they decline it a number of times. They want your information so that they can free your card of any blocks. DO NOT RETURN THEIR CALL!! IT IS A SCAM!! CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD!
