This is getting annoying now!
They have called about 10 times now...It's an automated message that will say to call over a file they have. I called and no one answered so I left a message and gave them only my phone number (since clearly the have it) and said to NOT CALL AGAIN! But that doesn't stop them. It comes up as Unknown user ID.

Calling Rogers to block the number..

I get a call 4 or 5 times a week.  It's automated and they demand I call before 10:25 the next day. I have never called back and I don't owe anyone money.  I am never at home during the day when they call so it's always a voice mail.  I know this is a scam because I don't owe money to anyone!!

We've been getting those calls too.  I've check my credit cards statements to make sure we weren't behind and we're not.  Obviously a scam.  If it was legit they would call during the day and you would be talking to a a real person not a recording.

My advice is to call the real tcr and ask if you can
Speak to the supervisor , Steve stavnitzky. Another
thing you can do ,is ask them which company the debt
is owed to, then call to confirm. I am pretty sure it's a scam
and that there targeting the old and young. Also to add, the
number is from china? One more thing never give out your
Credit info or ss # to any one unless your 100% sure they are
legit.

Been get this harassing message several times a week for the past few weeks. Very irritating. Had this phone number for a year and a half now so I doubt is an old number issue. I won't call back because it does sound like a total scam. We will call Bell though and complain about this.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I got the Steve Stavinsky call this morning for the first time. I know it's a scam because I don't have any debt, but I'm worried what they might be doing to my credit rating. Can they make up their own $#it to screw you? What line of defense do I have? Am definitely blocking their calls, but I've heard that they get around it by changing their number or using VOIP.

Sally, you probably have the old number of someone who has had a debt sold to a collection agency.  You can safely ignore the calls since they are not for you or if you have a smartphone download an app that allows you to block numbers.  You can also see if your carrier allows you to block numbers for 90 days or longer.  I can go online to my Verizon wireless account and put in numbers that I want blocked for 90 days.  You can also save the number to your contacts as ZDebt Collector and set the ringtone to none or silent so you don't hear the calls.

I've been getting these calls for about a month now..

The messages have changed recently, some guy is now saying his "staff", basically computer automated voice messages, have made "numerous attempts" to discuss my credit issues. I'm 15 years old, I have no idea what kind of credit I may need to recover but he believes "this can be settled amicably" if i call him before 10:25am the following morning.

Total Credit Recovery? I say it's Total BS.

Every evening about 7:00 p.m., I get an automated call telling me they are calling from Total Debt Recovery and that I must call by noon the next day.   There is no one to talk to, and  no name as to whom this call is directed.  I do not have any outstanding debt, and no one owes me anything.   This must be some kind of scam.

Got two messages from the same number - both computer voices, neither used my name (which is a dead giveaway that they aren't legit)

The first said I had a missing item that I needed to pickup. What? Seriously?

The second, from the same number, a few hours later, said that despite numerous calls we haven't gotten back to them and that we need to call by noon the next day. Total Credit Recovery. Our credit is fine with no outstanding bills so this is just a BS scam to fish for info from panicked people.
