I am curious to know if the Branch Manager at the VA location which was apparently run out of a residential property was a Mr. Zach Cormicle? My husband and I had a home refinanced (VA Streamline) with Home Savings of America thru their VA branch and we ended up paying about $12,000 in costs which were added to our loan. Of course there is nothing we can do about it now since HSOA has been shut down by the FDIC as Feb 2012. Do your research people, I wish we had :(

So I received a call from a 404 area code.  Like an idiot gave the person my social to refinance.   After I did that, I thought, how do I know this is person is legit. Asked the man to send me an email with his info as I was speaking to him. He said he sent it but I never received it.  I then asked for his extension and that I would call him.  He gave me a fake number.  Called him back and the number was disconnected.  I now have to be scared I am going to be a victim of identity theft.  Be carefull.

Crazygirl11-

Why don't you call the Corporate office and turn them in.  You are part of the problem if you work for them.  Do the right thing, it's a scam.

That is too funny. I and a few others work whom are fed up with, work for them and they all are joke. We are told to lie to the customer in the beginning to get the sale and then they change the rate or switch them to an arm loan in the middle or at the end of the process. We are also made to harass the customers everyday at all the phone numbers given to us along with the email addresses. There is not any reason why a loan should take more than 30 days to settle and I have customers that have been in the process period of their loan for 90+ days, that is so ridiculous and there is not any excuse for that. The Maryland and Virginia office is such a joke, it`s not even funny. Not to mention that the Corporate Office, which is in Minnesota, does not even know that the Virginia office is run out of someone`s personal home because they use an office address as a front and think that the Maryland Office is the actual office for Maryland and Virginia and we were instructed by our office manager when someone from the corporate office came that we were not to mention the Virginia office because they don`t know it exists and one of the operations managers that works in the Virginia office had to come to Maryland for 3 days and act like she work at our office everyday. All lies with this branch, stay far away from them.

One of the posts above mentions that 1-800-604-5122 is not a legitimate phone number for Home Savings of America.  That 800 number is listed on their website under Maryland at:

If you go to their website... www.homesavingsofamerica.com and mouse over mortgage loans and then choose retail lending you will find a list of valid HSOA phone numbers.  800-928-1769 is one of those valid numbers.  I've called and I am working with Todd, everything seems to be going well.  Will let everyone know if anything goes wrong.

My sister-in-law and I have refinanced our homes twice with the office in Santa Rosa, phone number 800-409-1500, we have both had great experiences. Our loans closed no problem, low interest rate and all. Ask for Troy in the Santa Rosa Branch... he and his team are wonderful!

You are right, I looked at the letter. They copied the VA and the FDIC on the letter, and the phone number is diffant then what is on the VA.gov webpage. I wouldn't call it.

I wouldn't call it 1 800 455 9603

We just received the same offical looking rate reduction letter. I haven't called the number yet because I wanted to search the net. The number listed on my letter is different than yours, it's 1-800-409-1500.
I'm going to call VA to check this out.

I actually got 'Official' looking business mail from them.  It's kind of obvious when they cut out a picture of the Dept Of Vet Affairs and photo copy it onto their letter.  I'm turing it over to the VA so they can spread the word.

The caller (Steve) claimesd to be a loan Specialist for VA rate reduction Dept. of Home Savings of America.  He said he could reduce my loan interest rate to 4.75 fixed with 1 point.  Then he began asking personal questions. I asked him to e-mail me the details of the loan.  Steve said he would send me disclosure statement the next day by e-mail. (He didn't)
His address 27 W Anapamu St Suite 101-392, Santa Barbara, CA 93101 is not occupied by Home Savings of America. My best guess is he was gathering info in order to try to steal my identity.
