Download a copy of the "Fair Debt Collection Practice Act". There are very specific laws regarding the behaviors and tactics used by these collection agencies. They can be fined $1000.00 for every violation of your rights and the laws governing their actions.

Upon your written request, they must cease all contact via telephone to include your place of employment and home. There are many great and FREE debt dispute letters which can be found online. These debt collectors must be able to prove that you not only owe this debt, but at your request, must provide documentation of this debt, which includes your signature, date of original debt, etc...  They must also prove that the statute of limitations has not expired for this debt. I would recomend researching what the statute of limitations is for your particular state.

If this debt can not be VALIDATED, the debt collector must cease all action against you. Also contact the credit reporting agencies and dispute any listings on your report that have past the statute of limitations and/or any debt which has been sold to different collection agencies. A lot of times, there is a lost of paper work when debts are purchased for pennies on the dollar, in hopes of scaring people into paying.

PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK PEOPLE!!!  It is against the law for these collection agencies to coerce or threaten you!!!  Also in my state (Massachusetts), it is against the law for these collection agancies to force you to post date a check!!!!  It is illegal to post date a check. It is the same as passing a bad check!!!  YOU CAN NOT LEGALLY WRITE A CHECK FOR MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE IN YOUR ACCOUNT!!!

The Fair Debt Collection Practice Act is the best thing since sliced bread, trust me, I know....  I too was being called by these criminals, and after reading the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act and researching what my rights were, I was able to clean my credit, and buy my beautiful home all within a year and a half!! And mostly without paying any of the debts they claimed I owed. Please keep in mind that there are or may be some debts which may need to be paid or negotiated to a lesser amount, but when negotiating a debt, tell them that you want your credit report to show "Paid if full" or even asked them to have it removed from your report. If they agree, tell them you want it in writing first.

They call like 3 to 5 times every day to my house from 800-456-0171.

Sometimes nobody answers, sometimes they leave a message asking to call them to that number, but they never say what it's about (like 3 different people so far), sometimes is just a recording....

What can I do to stop them?! I'm already in the no call list.

I just received a call from this number at my work.  I asked the lady not to call my place of employment and asked if she understood.  She sounded half drunk and told me that she did not understand me and hung up.  I called the number back and got "can I help you?" no company name no nothing.  I told them that they are not to call me at work, that this was harassment and I would be reporting them.  Unbelievable.  What jerks.

They call me 2. It doesn't take 2 much energy 4 me 2 ignore a call though so I could truly care less. If they're not leaving a message, I can only assume it isn't 2 important.

they start calling me at 9:15 am everyday and continue on the hour to another hour repeatedly.  When I answer they do not say anything, they hang up.  They are harassing me.

I got 15 calls in a 3 hour span

i was on vacation for three weeks and when i got back i had like 15 messages!!!

I just received a call from this number and it was a recording.  It said to please hold, then it hung up.  Any ideas as to whom it may be??

This is Target calling you, trust me, they love to call about 3-5 times a day and never explain who they are. If possible, deal with target directly, these people are very rude and will only anger you.

I get the calls about three times a day. I don't owe anyone any money. So I just have fun with them. Maybe they'll get tired if me and stop calling. I wasn't sure who they represent until I read these complaints.

they keep calling, not only private numbers but work as well.  I have asked repeatedly that they do not call, they do not listen.  I have threatened to report them and yet they call.  They are nasty and unrelenting....

This is a collection agency for many many many different businesses. I had 3 years of monthly rental fees for a sleep machine. Wish the durable medical equipment company had told me that!

And for the person saying you never went to the hospital they're harrassing you about, it's possible your doctor sent labs or films or something there to be read by someone else. Call your dr or insurance company to find out wtf. Sometimes those labs don't know you have health insurance & just send you a bill. If that's the case, call them & give them the #'s from your insurance card & tell them to bill the insurance. I had to do that once.

I got this phone call and they keep calling in spite of the fact that I already settled myself with the creditors WITH Target. LEAVE ME ALONE!

this guy called from that number also, collecting from target... he was a major a** hole... wish i would have caught his name a employee number...

DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE!!! THEY DO NOT ANSWER WHEN YOU CALL!  THEY LOG IN YOUR NUMBER AND CONTINUE TO CALL BACK BUT DO NOT ANSWER WHEN THEY CALL!!!! I'VE RECEIVED 20 CALLS IN A 12 HOUR PERIOD AND THEY NEVER ANSWERED!! I AM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE FDCPA AND WITH THEM VIA MY LAWYER!! THIS IS MY BUSINESS PHONE AND IT'S RIDICULOUS!!!!

Would call 8-10 times a day, all the way up to 8:59 pm knowing they had 1 minute before 9 pm. 7 "messages" left today, they were all just hang ups. I called back, they are looking for someone who I have never even heard of. Asked for them to leave me alone, we will see what happens.

This number 1-800-456-0171 is from a Collection agency from Target Card Services.

They call several times a day and when you answer they won't say ANYTHING !

I never got a human when I called.  So I called them back and asked them to stop calling.  The woman was very nice and said she'd have the number removed from the database.  

This is a collection agency, and I've inherited a phone number at my new business that used to be owned by someone who is having problems will outstanding payments.

We'll see... she said it may take up to 24 hours.

I receive calls from this number daily looking for a person that is not at my address.  They have said that they have removed my number from their database but still keep calling me.

I have gotten calls from this number 3 times today, and it is only 1130 EST! I am fed up with all of these freaking people calling!!!!!!

Someone keeps callling my phone number and leaving threating message for Sally. There's no sally that can be reached at our number.
