Received 3:18 Morristown TN "John Evans from Debt America about reducing debt using recent "bailout" that just went into effect. Said I needed to call soon because offer would expire. I came here to this site because sounds like a scam to get credit card info. My voice mail said he was calling from 978-570-2209.

Same as all the above.  Very annoying.  For the past 100x he's called it's been his last offer.  1-800-461-7054.  When I called in to have my # removed, a woman simply said "Ok sir, it's been done." She didn't ask for my number or anything.  She then hung up.

How is this not illegal/shut down by now?

SAME STORY.  JOHN EVANS - RECENT BAILOUT ETC. ETC.  I CALLED THE NUMBER BACK AND IT WAS BUSY, THEN I WENT ON LINE TO CHECK IT OUT AND CAME UP WITH THIS PAGE.  I AM SO GLAD I DID.

two final calls from a john evans.   These were on my father in law's answering machine.

Received phone call circa 5pm today in Woburn, MA. Recorded messsage: "This is John Evans from Debt America. This is my final attempt to reach you about eliminating your credit card debt. Call me at 1-800-xxx ....."  I lost the call back number when I interrupted the answering machine. (Found the 800 # here) BTW - I HAVE NO DEBT - This company calls MILLIONS OF TELEPHONE NUMBERS hunting for debtors at random. This call violates Massachusetts Fair Debt Collection laws. These calls violate the FTC do-not-call registry law.  Federal courts ruled these 'non-profit credit card counseling' companies work with for-profit companies, so they are not exempt from the Do-not-call registry laws. Looked them up in the Better Business Bureau - Debt America LLC aka Legacy Asset Management Company LLC; multiple addresses in Denver, CO. Phone (303) 561-4306.  Mr. Marty (MJ) Hecker, Principal. Barbara Penfield, General Manager. This company is not a BBB Accredited business. Numerous complaints about Debt America telemarketing scam on consumer  websites. They are crooks. File complaint with the Colorado AG and the FTC.

I received a similar call and when I asked very nicely where they had received my number as I was unaware why they were calling.  I was told not to "get my panties in a bunch" and hung up on me.  I called back and a person named Sean answered.  I politely asked the  name of the company and he responded "First Debt," and he hung up on me after answering.  I called back and was told the name of the company is Family First.  I have reported them as well.

The following message was recorded on our answering machine:
"Hello, this is John Edmunds calling from Debt America and this is my final attempt to reach you about assisting you in eliminating your credit card debt through our approved bail-out program that just went into effect.  Please call me back at 1-800-461-7054, so we can discuss how this program can assist you through these tough economic times as this program will expire.  Call me at 1-800-461-7054; Thanks."
 
The caller clearly identified himself as "John Edmunds" not "Evans" or "Ebans." I intend follow through on this matter and report it to the Attorney General's Office in our state, and I would advise all others to do the same.  I also intend to report this to the "Do Not Call List" because it is in violation of that law, and if I am able to find out the true identity of this party, I will bring suit.

The number 1-800-461-7054 is a scam artist at work. I call the company to see if its real or not. When i talk to them, they kept on pressureing me to give them my account number. I ask them which company is this, They said Credit debt Of America. I soon tell them it this is a fraud I will call the (IRA) and notified the cop about this matter. (They hung up the Phone on me)after that, i check my caller ID....... 'guess what' It just shows as unknown caller...... meaning that that phone is a faults number...

I called the number after they had left numerous messages on my parents voice mail after my Mom had passed away. I called and said that they were confused about my Dad owing money and having a bad credit rating.  I then asked to talk to John Evans.  They Said he won't call back.....I said because it's a fraud.....then she cursed at me!  DON'T CALL the number!!! Warn your friends.  I'm calling the FTC!!!

Samething here, Called saying he has called three times and that the Gov just passed a debt relieve package.

Message from "JOHN" saying calling to discuss debt elimination with recently passed "bailout" package for consumers. Said this is my final call, but have never received a call or message before. Did not give name of company.

I just got on of these calls. Originating number was 603-214-3576. When I first listened to the message I thought he said his name was John Evans, but when I listened again after reading Dan's message here, I to think he is saying his name is Ebans, with a "b". He did say he was from "Debt America" and that that this was his final attempt to help me eliminate my credit card debt through their approved 'bailout' program that just went into effect. Glad I thought to search the Internet for '800-461-7054' before calling them back.

My message said John Ebans (he pronounced it with a "B", not a "V" on my message).  He said he was from Debt America.  I can't find anything re: a name by this company.  I'm glad I didn't call since this seems to be a scam.

got a call from john evans saying it was the last attempt. It has been the last attempt for the last 20 times.

Same as others. Before I call BoA for verification, I checked this site and decided to ignore the message.

Same as others regarding Bailout...I called back and asked to speak to a manager and a twerp answered who couldn't give me an answer to how he got my phone number.  He told me my question was stupid and I have reported them to the better business bureau

I got voice message from this phone number, He said he call from Bank of America, Credit Card department, to discuss credit debt. I don't believe it.
