They have been calling me every day for about six months. I answered once, and they asked for my mother. I told them that I am not her, and I gave them her number. Yet they still continue to call every day. I'm so frustrated

ITs all very simple. Each time you see their number on your caller Id, recite this message when you pick up the phone and nothing else: The number you have reached is no longer in service. If yu feel you've reached this number in error, please hang up and try your call again. No further information is available about this number.
Now hang up. They will call a few more times, and eventually hang up.

Call everyday and ask for someone who does not or ever did live here. Wish they would stop.

My ex husband/divorced 14 yrs. got a call on his answering machine asking for me...they left message saying they are trying to collect a debt...isn't this illegal to tell someone else about my private affairs? Plus they called my ex's parents in Florida.......so this is not just 100 miles this is over 2000 miles.

This is a debt collection company. I get a lot of calls from debt collectors because of a similarly named person they are trying to collect debt from for a failed business they had. They left a voicemail on my home number that said "we are trying to contact < name of business> this involves collection of a debt. Please call Capital Management Services at 1-800-463-9509. Any information gathered will be used for this purpose. Thank You." What these companies do is they take the "carpet bombing" approach to finding who they're looking for. For example, if they are looking for a "Joe Johnson" they will call every Joe Johnson they can find on google or in the phone book within a 100 mile radius of their target's last known address, whether they know it's the right one or not in the hopes they find the right one or they find one who knows the right one. They don't care that they can end up harassing a dozen other innocents in the meantime. I am familiar with this tactic because it was explained to me by several other debt collectors in the past who have done this same thing looking for the same person these people are. It's what they do. In the meantime it's a royal pain for me.

I've recieved 3 phone calls wanting me to verify my husband's social security number. I asked them to give me the number they had and I would let them know if they were correct, they hung up on me. I called them back several hours later and told them I could give them that information only after finding out who they are. The man got nasty told me he was a 'business' and when I asked him what business he hung up on me again.

Account was turned over to them for collection but I checked and we have never been late on any payment with merchant. I have contacted attornet and the FTC for a formal prosecution and fraud charge stemming for conversation.

You send them a "Cease Communications" letter, for which you can google and find a good sample. Then they are liable for $1,000 everytime they call you. THey won't, though. it's part of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. And since it's not your debt, they can't sue you, so you won't be hearing from them, again. I'd send it Priority Mail with Proof of Delivery, it's worth the $4.80 to be able to prove in court, if necessary, that you told them to quit calling you.

Once again I received a call from 800-463-9509. They continue to call looking for my deadbeat brother even though I continually tell them that he does not live here and I tell them where he is. This time the female caller told me that the company calling is Capital Management....who knows. These type calls have been coming to my home for well over 1 1/2 years and they just won't quit. What does one do? Complaining to the government is a complete waste of everyones time because they don't do anything.
