That not true because the government passed a law that states that they cannot call you and they cannot garnish any wages at all.  Your student loans are still with the government and that you pay them directly.  These people are fishing to get control of your account so that they can attach their fees to them so you end up paying more.

Wait what?!?!?  Liberals don't want to pay taxes.  I think you might be off by a hell of a lot.  It's the conservatives always finding ways to cut taxes and anything social, if anything the guy you are arguing with is the far right.

I have gotten two calls in two days....no message left either time.  I do not owe a dime to anybody, so if it is a debt collector I have no idea why they are calling me.

it could be that you have left over tuition. people get that confused with having school loans but its totally different. you should just talk to them and theyll explain.

just to let you  know, your wrong. i work for them and they dont buy the debt. they are hired by the schools to collect on the debt. when the debt is collected (or whatever we can collect) the general revenue is paid.

It's 1995.  I've been working in IT for 15 years and literally worked myself out of a job, and unlike before, no "networking" found me a new job.  So I hit the pavement.  No degree.  15 years experience and outstanding references aren't good enough.  "Go back to school and get your Associates degree, and then you'll qualify for a job."  So I did.  I got it in 6 months, having tested through most courses due to experience.  "Sorry, Associate Degrees aren't good enough.  Get a Bachelor's degree."  So I did - 2 years and nearly $30,000 in loans.  Graduated with High Honors.  Job?  No.  "Bachelor's degrees aren't enough any more.  Get a Masters!"  "Sorry, you don't qualify for enough financial assistance."

This is back when student loans were not excluded from bankruptcy.  I could have declared then, but I didn't. Over the next decade, I paid back everything I could, building my own income in payphones.  Then they changed the law so I can't go bankrupt.  "That's okay," I thought, because I was still paying... $30,000 and still counting, with an outstanding balance nearly $20,000.

Then Obama expanded "Lifeline" to cell phones, and through rampant fraud and abuse, Obamaphones have wiped out the struggling payphone industry.

Now I was forced into bankruptcy.  No job, no income, and despite still looking for work, no one even cared that I had those d***ed degrees.

Congratulate me!  I'm now earning almost $8 per hour - the same thing I earned in 1982.  Now 50 years old with a family to pay for.  After what the banks did to me by raising interest rates on my business credit cards despite never missing a payment, I couldn't care less about them ever receiving one more dime - even if I had a dime to send them...

BTW, with the new "rights" that the Feds have grabbed - you know, the right to tell me what I must buy by "taxing" me if I don't do it - the US is no longer the land of the free.

I left.  And, I'm much happier now.  I am truly free of all the s**t the US Federal Government is doing to Americans.  I'm out of reach.  And that $8/hr?  That's good money here!

Does that make me a scumbag or a survivor?

I got a call from this place today.  I returned the call and they informed me that some one I knew 8 years ago used me as a reference to whatever she was applying for.  So, this place is not just about student loans and the collection on student loans.

You are the reason our economy is the way it is. You feel you have the right to have an education, which you do, but you need to pay for it, not the tax payers. My guess you getting paid under the table means you aren't paying your taxes either, typical minded liberal. When our economy completely tanks out, you will have no where to go, pay your bills!!!!

This is a credit collection agency (General Revenue Corporation) randomly calling anyone with the same last name in the City of Charlotte in the off chance they will locate their prey.  They ignore the do not call lists and badger everyone. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  In my case they even knew that nothing in their records related to me except having the same last name... which is of course a very common name in the southern part of the US! They called us every day for two weeks... and only stopped when we threatened to sue!

I might get fired if they found out I gave out this info:
Per F.C.C. regulations; read the following statement to them, if they talk over you just continue and shout it to them, "This phone call is being recorded. State your full name and mailing address for the record. Your company has been instructed verbally and in writing that this alleged debt is in dispute.
This phone call consists of harassment and you are in violation of Federal debt collection laws. I may sue you personally for harassment and numerous Fair Debt Collections Practices Act violations if you do not cease and desist your illegal harassment immediately. Does your company policy endorse harassment and violations of Federal Law? Do not contact me again by phone at my home or my place of employment."  Then hang up the phone and write a "Cease Telephone Communications" letter and mail it certified mail, return receipt, signature required to the person you spoke with, if you didn't get their name then send it to the company in care of "Telephone Collections Manager".

Freakin' b.s. people keep calling my house looking for someone who doesn't live here. I tell them to stop calling, yet they continue.
I pay my student loan, so they are not calling for me.
For some stupid reason, they keep calling me. I tell them that I don't know the contact info of the person they are looking for, but they call, and call, and call, and call.
It if f****ng annoying.

If anyone has their address, I would appreciate it, as I'd like to visit them to rip them a new one.

Got call from this number today. Retired many years ago. Don't owe money to anyone. Never had a school loan. Should I call them and tell them they are mistaken since I've had my phone number for over 30 years? I don't want to give them too much personal info about myself!

They might be calling someone who used to have your number but they don't just call about student loans.  What high dollar loan did you default on?  I googled the number because it was on my caller ID, now that I know who it is, I remember that I need to send out our agreement, to pay $45 a month until the $2680 is paid off. I think they were great to work with.  They asked ME what I could do and when I worked with them they cancelled the garnishments.

The 800-464-4944 number is just a voice mail trap from General Revenue Corporation.  They are trying to get you to leave your phone number so that they can collect a debt.  Their real phone number is 800-234-1472.  You can call that number and get your phone number off their calling list.  It's a clever trap, but not clever enough - if you are willing to play around with the phone key pad a little, you can get to voice mail and find the real number.

I have a great job that pays CASH bozo.  No garnishment is possible.  I don't need a bank account, as I have prepaid credit cards.  So life is pretty fine and dandy for me.  Dropping out of your s****y idea of a lifestye/economy was the best thing I've ever done.
