The latter is the automated call machine's number.  The one they provided to you is their direct line to the loss prevention dept.

Definitely TD Visa.  They called me a few days ago, but I called them back using the number on the back of my card and they confirmed.  Turned out there was an issue with my card.  I got a new card yesterday, then I did some transactions and I was called again to confirm the transactions.  All completely legitimate.

The legitimate web address for TD is http://www.tdcanadatrust.com

The above poster is lying and attempting to use a fake website to prolong the scam.

Call the number on the back of your card to be safe, but ignore this number and anyone who answers it.

I received a call from a 1-866 number stating they were Visa Fraud Protection from my bank. I called my bank and they verified the number that would be calling and it was the same number. This was a legit call, so I called back ans went through the steps and confirmed the one large purchase that has just gone through that it was asking about :-)

This is the actual number of TD Visa Loss Prevention, see here:

http://www.td.com/to-our-customers/tdhelps/#p ... 7Cvid=a022c2723

My card was declined at several places today, and I got a call from this number.
When I called back all they asked for was my name.
They were then able to tell me everything else about my account and transactions for confirmation, including the places I visited *today*.
I mention all of this here due to the surprising amount of "its a scam" posts here.
It's not.

However, whether you believe me or not, if you are at all unsure just call the number printed on the back of your card.
You will eventually end up at 1-800-466-7295 anyway, but the number printed on your card can't possibly be a scam and is 100% safe to call.

Is that number TD bank? Yes. Was it TD Bank that called you? Maybe not. It is very simple to spoof caller ID. For that reason NEVER give out personal information on a call you did not make, using a number from the back of your credit card, statement, or phone book. Never call back a number given to you in a phone message, email, fax, or text.

I verified this number with TD Canada Trust after receiving a call from this number.  I called the number on the back of my TD credit card and verified that it is their Fraud Department.   There was suspicious activity on my Visa.

All the morons saying it's a scam it is not. Because a bank calls to verify a transaction and you don,t deal with them means someone is trying to start a credit card under your name. This happened to me.cibc was calling asking me to confirm personal info but I was weary. I went to the bank in person and they confirmed some jack was attempting fraud.  I make many purchases online and normally after 3 in a row quickly they call. I alway call the number on the card to confirm it was me.

Received a call from this number 3x yesterday on my cell phone.  I googled the number and found these posts.  Following the advise of other posters I called the number on the back of my credit card instead of calling the number that had called.  TD Loss Prevention was trying to contact me because someone in Austin Texas was trying to charge $1200 to my visa card.  I live in Toronto and have never been to Austin Texas.  I'm glad I called back because I normally ignore strange numbers, especially when they don't leave a msg.  They've stopped the charges, opened an investigation and are sending out a new card.

This 800 # number is legit,

I called the number on the back of my card instead, turned out there was a minor problem with my card, the guy at TD Visa also told me the 800-466-7295 was legit and I could have used it, but if people feel more comfortable just to use the number on their Visa card when they are called from the 800 # if that feels safer to them

Don't know why so many people are posting the number is a scam. Call TD Visa and they will tell you it's not.

But I agree with previous poster that it is a bad corporate policy for TD Visa to use this procedure.

Event Reminder
I received a call from this number and it was an automated message about transactions on my credit card.  They left this number to call back.  I do *not* call random numbers left on my voicemail about credit card matters.  I called the number on my card, and spoke to loss prevention.  The number was legitimate.  I have serious issues with TD Canada Trust engaging in this behaviour - you should **NOT** be teaching your clients that it is okay to give your credit card information to people who have left random phone numbers on your voicemail.  If you get a call from this number about your credit card, immediately call the number on the back of your card - do *NOT* call the number they leave.

SHAME ON YOU TD for teaching your clients to be victims of phishing attacks.

Received an automated call from 1-800-466-7295 about a credit card I have ending in last 4 digits.  I called the number on the back of my credit card instead as I am always watching out for scammers.  This was a legitimate call and someone had tried to charge my card with $3000 from another country (London England).  Thankfully, I am not liable for fraudulent activity on my Visa card.  They are issuing a new number and have shut down my current card.

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

> Who spends that much online at Forever 21!!!!
Some one who really thinks they'll be 21 forever if they buy stuff there :-)

I got a call from this number too.  I turned out to be legit.

If you get a call from this number:
1. Call the number on the back of your card to find out what's going on (I wouldn't use this number.)  If you don't have a TD Visa, still call them--they probably just have the wrong number for some one that does but there's a slim possibility your identity has been stolen.
2. Add the number to your contacts so the next time they call you'll have a clue.

This is a valid number. i received the message re fraudulent activity on my card, called back but told them I wasn't comfortable giving them my cc info. They directed me to call the number on the back of my my card instead, which I did. i was immediately directed to Loss Prevention. That morning someone had tried charging $12 000 to my credit card through online purchases so they'd frozen my card and were calling to verify the purchase - which was definitely not valid. Who spends that much online at Forever 21!!!!

I was very suspicious to receive a voicemail from this number about my credit card, telling me to call it back. When I called it back, it was an automated system that started asking me to give it all kinds of personal information. Totally felt like a scam so I hung up and called the known-legit number on the back of my card instead.
The person I talked to at the known-legit number confirmed that the TD Visa loss prevention department really was trying to contact me, but that I was right to be suspicious of the scammy-seeming auto-caller and that I did the right thing by calling the number on the back of my card instead.
So if you receive the call and are suspicious, just call the number on the back of your card and ask them what's up.

(I do find it to be a hilarious failure that the loss prevention department uses exactly the sort of communication methods that lead people into getting phished/scammed. If they want to prevent losses, they shouldn't be training their customers to blindly give out personal info to auto-callers.)

I got a call from them yesterday and really wondered if it was legit, however when I called the TD VIsa number on my card, they transferred me to the loss prevention dept. and in fact there had been 3 attempts from unusual vendors and Visa was suspicious. They verified that I did not know them or initiate anything with Qatar Airlines, some travel company and someone else from NJ. So I was really glad that I called. They are cancelling this card and sending me a replacement. So better to be safe than sorry and call the 1-800 number they left or TD Visa's number on your credit card.

This number is actually legit, though I was very suspicious of it because it came from the U.S. I called the number on the back of my credit card and they confirmed that there had been fraudulent activity on my card and that the loss prevention branch was trying to contact me. They transferred me internally so I didn't have to recall, so if you don't trust the number, just call the number on the back of your card, but you can trust that if you get a call from this number that something is up with your card.

I got a call from this number, but didn't answer, and they didn't leave a message.  I called TD back using the phone number on the back of my card instead.  They verified they did try and phone me.  Some transactions were flagged as suspicious, but fortunately they were mine.

We got one of these calls today...we didn't respond.  Later on we got another one.  We were suspicious so we called the number on the back of our TD credit card.  They were glad to hear from us. Today our card had five unauthorized charges totalling over $200 and the bank had cancelled the card.
This is for real and not a phishing call...at least not the one that we got.

It seems to be legit.
Three unusual charges to my card that they had declined because they looked fishy and were out of my usual pattern. Cancelled the card and are sending a new one
They called and already had all my info and only wanted the 3 digit number off the back of my card.

Let's take a rare approach and look at just the facts.

I do NOT have ANY accounts or credit cards with TD or any other Canadian Bank.  Why would TD's Visa Loss Prevention department call me?
