got a message about security virus protection, I purchased it and was taken for $51.00, beware of this scam, I had to cancel my debit card too....there is no such software, this is a con game

I got a message that some program was trying to steal my credit card information and when ordered the product was charged $130.  Boy was I naive!!!
Makes me even more determined to only purchase name brand stuff!

They may have installed multiple malware on your PC. Scanning with antivirus may not work because modern malware like rootkits hide quite well from AV software. The safest thing to do is to reformat your drive and reload your operating system and I hope you have backups. If you don't know how, ask for help from geek friends or pay a local shop  to do it. In the meantime, unplug it from the wall and don't log in to any accounts because trojans can steal your login credentials and send them to the criminals behind your back. You should consider all accounts to be compromised and you need to change passwords, security answers, etc., as soon as possible from a known-to-be-clean PC. Do not use public PCs like in a library to do this. Ask a geek friend if he would create a temporary user account on his PC so you can change passwords. Do it now.

The popup warning and the "security" software is in fact a Trojan. It is a system hijackware that infects your computer via infected ad-banners or links/redirects/trojan web pages or emails.
The sole purpose is to get you into giving out your credit card info, which is then used by the criminals who created or use the hijackware and run the distribution network of previously infected computers known as a BotNet.

To recover your money:
Report the incident to your local police, request a case number. You can also do the same with the US Secret Service, again get a case number.
Tell your credit card company that your card has been compromised by a criminal network, as apposed to saying it was a disputed charge. Let them know that the supposed "security" company is in fact organized crime and that you demand a full refund and supply then with your police/USSS report and case number.

Back in April 2010 I got a message on my computer informing me that my computer is about to crash and it had seriously been infected by a virus. They offered me an immediate solution by selling me a "Security Tool+System Tuner+Premium Support". I panicked and had them register the Security Tool.
My credit card was debited with CAD 138.36 (being the equivalent of Russian Rubles under the heading "Browsing Solutions.com Moscow" and an email from: Security Tool noreply@72.232.247.114 indicated a customer support 1-800-469-9689. Any attempt of contacting these people by email or telephone was unsuccessful.
Warning: Do not purchase this Security Systems Virus Protection! It does not work! You will be unable to get a refund or contact anybody at the above phone number!

Hey I just had this problem and it about crashed my computer because their software said i had a virus on my computer. Did anyone get their money back so I know if I am actually going to get my money back for this or if I am going to have to kick someones butt about getting my money back.

i didn't get a phonecall i got a virus from something called security tool and i had to pay them 49.95 to remove it and they ended up charging me 99.00 dollars i dont no about you all but i dont have 99 dollars to spart and i want my money back everytime i call the number i get a busy signal and no one answers it removed the virus but they charged me 99 dollars for something that was suppose to cost me  50

It pop up on my computer and I thought it was the windows shield. It said it would be 49.95 for 2 yrs. Since I thought it was legit I bought it to get rid of all those virus. They went away I thought. Found out it was not what I thought. Now have a complaint filed on them and my credit card company is on their tail. It was suppose to be 49.96 but they took out 99.85. With this phone number there should be something done and with the fake website they list. I've called the number several times. It plays heavy metal music at times then it sounds like it's hooking up to a modem. Call late one night and the person I spoke with CLAIM to be a lawyer.  Stay clear of this one!!!

their website came on and told me i had a virus. i also have had no luck with talking to someone and getting my money back. they charged 80 bucks towards my account.

The same thing happened to me-- i couldn't get out of it and i thought it was legit and now i have a pending charge of 49.99 on my account-- I'm boiling mad that I trusted it and out the money. NOT to mention, my computer won't start now!

I did the same thing..I definitely know better but this seemed to be legit as it came through the Defender as you mention.  I already canceled my credit card and now I am trying to recoop my $50.00.  I have been unsuccesful in reaching anyone at the 800 phone number.  It rings and then it automatically starts playing music.  Any luck with your attempts to cancel the transaction or get a refund?  Thanks. This program named "Security Tool" popped up while I was on Facebook. It disguised itself as part of the Windows Defender program and stated that I needed to update my Windows Defender program. Makes a long story short, they took $99.90 from my account and when I called to cancel it, it took forever to get someone to answer the phone. Person sounded foreign as did everyone else in the background. I have had to change all my account info.!

DO NOT PURCHASE "SECURITY SYSTEMS" VIRUS PROTECTION.  IT WILL NOT WORK AND YOU WILL NOT GET A REFUND......
