Debt Collector
A robot "debt collector", who has been auto dialing us for several years in an attempt to obtain ?overdue payments? from a person named Spinel (sp?) Ortega is now using the phone number, 1-800-278-2420 as their call-back number.  Every week, sometimes several times a day, they call us claiming to be looking for this dead beat person and want her or him to call them back at that above number, or go to their website:  www.erc.com with the following reference number:  70522492 to solve this matter.  We do not have and have never had any overdue debt.  We do not know or have ever heard of this Ortega person.  WE NOW BELIEVE THAT THESE CALLS ARE A SCAM TO GET OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!  If it happens to you, just hang up.  Prior to the ERC robot ?debt collector?, ERC used human operators under the guise to find this same mystery person whenever calling us.  Back then, I tried to get these operators to delete our phone number from their data base (a home number which we have had for over a decade) so they could stop bothering us and wasting their time.  If they were a legitimate business, they would have probably complied by now.

This is from a company called Enhanced Recovery Co. a "debt collection agency". They are trying to get me to pay $650 for a supposed Verizon bill. The thing is, I don't owe money to Verizon! Verizon tried saying I owed money to them b/c they said I didn't cancel my tv service when I moved, but I did call 4 times to turn it off. A year later they send me a bill which I disputed w/that collection agency. I showed proof that I paid my last bill & that I canceled the service, and that I moved. They sent me a letter saying I was right and they cleared it off. Now this ERC keeps calling me about the same "debt" asking if I'm going to pay in full today. NO! This is a scam!

After receiving several phone calls to pay a remaining balance to _____ company, to which I replied I had neve done business with that company - I asked for a copy of othe original bill from the company.  Never received it.  I now have received  "CREDIT BUREAU REPORTING NOTIFICATION" stating I owe this money to that same company, and included a "settlement" amount in lieu of the original amount due.  When I go to the website www.payerc.com where I can make payment by credit card I find they want my email address and password to login.

This is all so very strange because as I said - I never did business with ______ company.  A scam?  I don't know - all they want from me is $5.70.  Hardly a way for making any money from a scam.

Just thought I'd share

If you are not this person please delete this message." then they go on to tell me that I owe them some money? And that im in debut. I have never even heard about this place and i am absolutely NOT in debut. I finally called them and told them to delete my number, Lets hope it works.

They pretend to be a collection agency to get information
Do not tell them anything just tell them you will report them to FCB
and then do it.

Don't take any bull from this company.  When I called and asked what their company website was to verify who they are the operator didn't know off hand - meaning the website is also just a front so that people think it's legitimate.  I called them back and gave them a stern warning never to call again.  Just say you will file a complaint with the Federal Consumer Bureau.  Don't give them any personal information at all not even your name.

Asked for me by my name and I said "speaking."  A terrible time understanding this person but did get Enhanced Recovery Corp, a collection agency and her name was "Nicola?"  Said I owed $550 but I couldn't understand for what...asked to speak to someone else....someone else came on and I wanted to know how they got my number and they said it was from my file.  Then she asked if I was----and she used a different name and I said no and that was the end of this very strange telephone call. I am on a no-call list and this call came in on my cell phone.  They did ask for the last 4 digits of my social security number and I said no. Thanks for writing in everyone, helped me understand what was going on--I'll be more careful now.

My husband took the call at home while I was at work and the same thing happened as the rest.  Called wanting to collect on an outstanding AT&T bill but when I called to verify that with AT&T, they had no record of me in their system at all.  THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!!  Do not give out information to "collectors" trying to call you.  If you know you have debt, always go through the company with which you owe!!  They can direct you to the proper payment services.  People are finding new ways everyday to scam innocent people.  I have been a victim of credit fraud/identity theft and it sucks. Now trying to fix it all, it doesn't help getting calls like this!!

I received two calls today (10/17/07) from 800-474-0086, which showed on my caller ID but no name.  Of course, I didn't answer and each time the phone stopped ringing right about the time my answering machine clicked on but there wasn't a message.
I just went through receiving eleven calls during the month of Sept. '07 from 800-214-9349; the last call from them was 7:07p.m. on Sat., 9/22.
Silly me, I thought I'd have some relief from these ridiculous calls.  They must work, though, as telemarketing is BIG business.  Unfortunately, it seems that the Do-Not-Call registries aren't effective - I'm on the state and federal lists but I've received seven calls from two other "out-of-area" numbers(?)since early Sept..

This has "scam" and "illegal" written all over it, guys--I Googled it and it came up as belonging to a Mike Yousem Plumbing Co. in LA, CA!? (I'm in Arkansas and have never *lived* in LA.) I can only think that someone has tapped into their phoneline somehow and is using it for some unknown purpose. Beware.

I repeatedly get calls from this number at my place of business. There is no response when I amswer but I do receive this number in Caller ID. When I called they put me on hold and when they came back they asked me if I was another name. When I demanded to know who they were, they repeated asking if I was another name ( I am not) I said I wanted my question answered because I called them. They said I called for assistance and wanted my name. I repeated myself and they hung up.
