Got a pre-recorded message today on my cell phone. No one has my cell number except family. And I'm not aware of any outstanding debts. I have only one credit card in my name, all others have been canceled. I suspect they are just bottom feeding trolls.

This number along with 1-800-311-7847 call here almost daily. Automated message "Please hold for the next available representative." I hang up, I don't want to deal with these people, and I wish they would just stop calling. Wish there was something I could do about them...

Received a numerous calls from "Ms. Duffer" over past month. Her msg said this was not a marketing call, but was a personal business matter.  When called back they said they are looking for Natalie.  No Natalie here so they said they would remove my number.

Great reply, Alfalfa!  Lots of good info.  Here is some more info:

For complaints, call:  1-800-540-6364

On their website, it says, "For concerns or complaints about our collection activities", call that number.  I haven't done so, but I'm writing them with your fine template.

[I don't have any debts "in collection", but I think they have my number because of the last two deadbeats who had it before me.]   :-(

Received those pre-recorded messages.  Called them back and they claimed I owed a debt with a company I've never heard of.  When I told them I've never heard of the company and "No, I don't owe such a debt", they said "thank you, goodbye" and hung up on me.  I told the guy from the first that I thought his company was a scam and he didn't even say anything to defend it.  If this was a legitimate company, I think he would have explained in more detail the nature of the debt and I'd be receiving letters in the mail.  I'm not sure what they're up to but I know I don't owe any debts---and I have a perfect credit score.  Something is up with this!

I have a Kentucky number---they've called me twice now.  I've never returned their call because the recorded message sounded very suspicious.  I do not have any pasted due debts and have no credit card debt so I'm not sure why they're calling.

This company (Nationwide Credit) calls constantly - keeps calling until we answer then all we get is a recording. When you call the number they leave, the person on the other end is unable/unwilling to help unless you give them very specific information. DON"T DO IT! It is a fishing expedition - if you know you do not have delinquent debt. You'll never get rid of them

The bigger problem - they own dozens of numbers to call from - so even number blocking hasn't been much help.

The Commonwealth of Virginia ought to investigate and fine this bunch - I have already complained several times - you should too!!

Debt Collector
First of all, you need to dispute the alledged debt they are calling about.

Send them this letter DEMANDING that they validate the debt. Send it VIA certified mail and request a return receipt:

Today's Date

Your Name
Your Address

Collector's Name
Collector's Address

Dear {insert name of collector or company},

I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state)
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law. You do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

By law, they are prohibited from attempting to collect on a debt WHICH THEY ARE UNABLE TO VALIDATE once they have your letter. If they continue calling after you have written proof they have received it, they are in violation of Section 809 of the FDCPA and you can report them to the FTC:

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

They should disappear once they receive your letter, for this is obviouisly a bogus debt.

They call, they say nothing.  How obnoxious!!!

I happened to be watching a video that involved a drunken fellow and no small amount of vomiting, so I put the phone next to that for awhile.

If anyone came on the line, they got an earful!

Bud Says...

Nationwide does not appear to have a problem in growth and expansion, however they do have a problem being able to deal with the accounts they have. Failure to provide documentation on both FDCPA and FCRA disputes. Too many employees that are lacking in FDCPA knowledge add up to a failing grade for this agency.

Keep getting harassed by these people - they call several times a day and when I have called back they claim not to have my number in their database...

Who are they - anyone know? I see a Nationwide Cred (1 703 642 7500 & 703 245 1909)  on the caller ID. Enough is enough already!
