Just wanted to let everyone know that this number is actually not a scam. I was given this number to call after speaking with Bank of America about reducing my APR and monthly credit payments.

THERE ARE TROLLS LIKE  ' M. '  ON THIS SITE WHO PERPETUATE THIS LIE. FIRST LOOK AT THE FACTS.

1. M. COMES ON THIS WEBSITE JUST TO BASH OTHERS? LOOK HOW LONG HIS POSTS ARE. WHAT OTHER MOTIVES DOES HE HAVE COMING ON THIS WEBSITE OTHER THAN TO LEGITIMIZE A BOGUS COMPANY? HE NEVER MENTIONED HE GOT A CALL FROM THE NUMBER SO WHY ARE YOU HERE????????

2. I BANK WITH BANK OF AMERICA, HAVE NO LOANS, NO CREDIT CARDS, NOR HAVE I FOR 10 YEARS. MY ACCOUNTS ARE NOT IN THE RED SO WHY ARE THEY CALLING AND WHY DOES THE CALL SHOW UP ' UNKNOWN ' ? I HAVE HAD BANK OF AMERICA CALL ME AND GUESS WHAT IT SAYS WHEN THEY CALL? ' BANK OF AMERICA '.

3. ASKING FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE BEFORE GIVING ANY KIND OF IDEA AS TO WHY THEY ARE CALLING..... ARE YOU KIDDING. I SERIOUSLY HOPE NO ONE HAS FALLEN FOR THIS.

4. @DENIAL. READ # 1.

I had a voicemail on my home phone. The caller said they might have a solution for me. She identified herself as calling from "card services". Glad I checked before returning the call.

Just got a call from 866-866-2153 ("toll free caller") saying they were w/ BOA asking me to enter the last two digits of my zip or the last 4 digits of my SSN.  Since I am in the process of refinancing my mortgage w/ BOA I first thought it might be in reference to that, but after I punched in the last two numbers of my zip code a man came on and said they were calling about my BOA credit card with the last four digits of XXXX.  He said a payment is due tomorrow and he was just calling "as a courtesy" to ask if arrangements had been made to make a payment.  Immediately smelling a rat I told him I've never been late on paying my bills and that it was none of his business and that if BOA had anything to discuss with me that he could give me a phone number and I'd call them.  He gave me the number 800-487-0396 and hung up.  I Googled it and found this site.  I called the number on the back of my BOA credit card and told a rep about this.  She said BOA does NOT call to remind people they have an upcoming payment due and that my account is in perfect standing.  She took the information and said she'd report it.  I did find the 800 number linked to FIA Credit Services, but whenever I've had any question about my BOA credit card, I've called BOA directly, not FIACS.

Do NOT give out any personal information to anyone who calls you!  Always get a phone number, then check out the phone number, then call what you know to be a legitimate phone number (in this case BOA, not some random 800 number), and call them back.

Also, do NOT confirm ANY personal information to anyone who calls like this.  A scammer could already have all your personal information before they call.  ALWAYS ask for a number to call them back.  Google the number and if you don't recognize it, if they claimed to be from BOA or wherever, call a legitimate number for that company yourself.  Do NOT automatically call any number back without verifying it's legit.

if they "claim to be Bank of America" they ARE calling about a Bank of America credit card. by law they can not disclose what the personal matter is without confirming that you are the person they are looking for. most likely it is a call to let you know that they have not received a payment or payments for your account. if you can't confirm the credit card number they can look up your account with your social security number - which is why they ask for it.  if you don't have any credit cards with a past due amount, then don't call them back.

You say... "THEY NEVER LEAVE A MESSAGE", or... "THERE IS NOBODY ON THE OTHER END WHEN I ANSWER"...

Computers are programmed to automatically call people.  If you answer, you confirm to the computer that you are home and are taking phone calls.  The computer hangs up on you and flags your number as "currently available".  Then it goes into a queue, and dials you again in a few minutes, this time with an agent on the other end.  You don't think that there are actual people sitting at a desk, physically dialing your phone number...  Do you?  This is how they save time and money.

The best way to avoid that second callback is to answer the original call, but don't say anything.  ALWAYS keep quiet when you don't know who is calling you.

Some times, if you answer your phone and say nothing, and then hang on the line for 5 seconds or so, you'll hear a click or two and all of the sudden an agent will say, "Hello? Hello?"  The computer has transferred the call it just made to you, to an active agent.  This is also a very efficient process for the collector.

Guys. Don't be stupid. I am in a bad credit status for some time (not completely my fault) and getting hundreds of calls like this. Remember! Legit collector will NEVER ask your SS# or even account# they KNOW IT ALREADY. They will verify your identity by any other means but these two.

I Don't agree. They are asking for an account # and SS # prior to telling you why they are calling. I am up to date with my payments so I don't trust them.

I'd just add to what the commenter above said about not giving them any information until they can confirm your account number and SSN, still do NOT give out or confirm ANY personal information to anyone who calls like this.

Do not under any circumstances give these people claiming to be from BoA or a part of any information until they can verify your acct. # and SS # to you first. What people don't understand is that YES alot of these are scams due to the fact that con artists tend to piggyback on bank lines so they can find a target. If they are legit, you should have no problem getting a verification from them, but if they are not legit, then they will want to argue about that they can't do anything until you give them your acct. # and SS #. I have had alot of calls like that, which I talked to the person who handles my account at my bank and they said "DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE ANYONE YOU ACCT. # AND SS # UNLESS THEY CAN VERIFY."

Yeah, I just got a call from these guys, wanting to talk to someone in my household. The lady on  the other end identified herself as "Linda from Card Services" and gave me this 800#, which I promptly Googled.

As far as I know, the person to whom she wished to speak has been paying the bills on time (and, in fact, hasn't used any credit cards recently), so I seriously doubt that this is a late-payment or non-payment notice. Sounds more like a fishing expedition to me, if not a scam.

If it is in fact a real call, they should leave some sort of information so that you know it is for real.  I have several credit cards (no late payments) and for them just to say "card services", I have no idea which one.  Then, I called the number and it just said to enter your account number.  Again, I have multiple cards, how am I supposed to know which one they are referring to?  No need to make it so shady.

I am sick and tired of this number as well as the others I have reported calling me not only at home, but also at WORK!!! For some reason they claim to be part of BOA and that they really need to talk to me because it is real important which is my credit card payment which I have already paid. I have already been advised by the person that handles everything at the bank I go to not to give out any info about myself and said that if these people call again, even with a different number, to let them (my bank) know about it and to give them the information (name and phone number of the person(s) that called) to them and they will look into it.

At 11:00 a.m., a male caller left a mesg. to call him back at Card Svcs.  Turns out, this Company has been calling us many times before, and on Weekends, Holidays and Early Morning Hours!  We know its Bank of America Collections Dept. calling.  Unfortunately for them, we don't owe anything and paid them off last month!  However, Bank of America had recently change their methods of calculating interest and made it retroactive to the beginning of when we first received the BOA Credit Card.  In readjusting our zero balance, it resulted in approx. $2,000.00 plus adjusted interest. Our lawyers told us that was illegal.  We sent them a letter acknowledging this and they are continuing to call and harass our home!  On August 11, 2009, 11:23 a.m., this same caller had called our Work place and jeopardize our jobs, as the company does not allow Personal Calls.  We will be suing them in U.S. Dist. Ct., 9th Cir. shortly, as their activities resulted in an attempt to create a "new" contract with us after we paid them off!  It is time BOA feel the effects of Justice once again!  FYI BOA also knows not to call us at Work.

My 88-year-old Mom was awakened this morning by someone from "card services" calling herself Ms Winfrey. She said that my very meticulous mother owed a "late penalty" on her credit card. She also asked for the last 4 digits of her Visa card. Of course Mom was all flustered when I spoke to her later, until I checked her account online. Two payments had been received - on time - this month - both before the due date. Then I tracked to this site the phone number they left for her to call when she was a little more awake, and I was able to put her mind at ease. Being in the media business, I am well aware of how these scammers try to dupe the elderly and the uninformed. I told her it was a scam and that when in doubt to always call the card company directly using the phone number on her statement or on the back of her credit card - and to NEVER give out ANY personal information to an anonymous or suspicious caller.

I understand your concern.  Call back and ask them to look you up by phone number (they obviously have it in the system).  Or better yet, check your accounts online and make sure everything shows Past Due $0.  If it does not, you will keep getting calls.

Guess what, when you call them, it records your number and links the call to your account with them, whether you give them your account number or not.  I hope you feel good about acting like an imbecile to your bank.  I would not ask for a big loan any time soon!

It's your credit's funeral if you don't cll and set up a payment to get your account up to date!!
You must be young if you don't care that they're REQUIRED by federal law to report ANY Past Due payments over 30days...which means it will affect your future ability to buy a car, buy a house, get more lines of credit...etc.

Go ahead, be stupid, don't make your payments on time...then we have you to blame for this credit mess!
