Unless you were mentioned by name, I suspect the calls you are receiving are for the person that had the number before you did. The debt collector has probably been calling since the before the number was initially disconnected and now you are stuck with that number.
I am speaking from experience. I have been assigned more than one number in years gone by where I have received calls for people I have never heard of. These operations never listen to what you tell them. They assume their information is up to date and that the person they are speaking to is trying to avoid them.

So i Just bought a pay as you go phone from walmart, with a verizon fill card, and I set up my phone and had not yet called or given anyone my new number, and lo and behold this collection agency called my cellphone.  So this is just a little bit of proof that verizon does sell your pesonal information.  Shouldn't we be getting paid, for information their selling to other people about us?  I mean, if they wanted your information, they could just buy it from you directly, instead of being back handed sneaky snakes in the grass, and just selling your information for profit.  Thanks for reading, the collection agencies number that called me was again 1 800 496 4599.  Clearly this is a violation of privacy rights, but hey whats new here in the US with the NSA tapping and wiring into every Americans information.  Sure they'll tell you who cares about what you had to say.  And make you feel like they wouldn't get anything useful from your particular information, however they do get useful information, and you are categorized by their system.  And when it becomes useful, they'll go back and use everything they collected as they wish.  Kind of like that scene in the matrix where they bring out Neo's hidden file.  Cheers.

I've been getting 2-3 calls a week from this number for a few weeks now. Phone is always on silent so I never answer.

these calls are for the deadbeat losers...NOT for hardworking bill paying on time people....PAY YOUR BILLS LOWLIFES

This number keeps calling me, and won't leave a message. I will not answer for the fact I do not know who or why they are calling.

800-496-4599 calls to collect a debt from a person named Cunningham.......no one here by that name
then the same company calls again but from a different number 855-454-1082 to collect a debt for the same name .... Cunningham.................they leave the same recording week after week
these people have no clue who they are calling........

Please keep calling, each time you do is going to cost you $1,500 since I sent you a Notice of Dispute and Validation. I also requested that you contact me in writing so each of your calls are Willful and is costing you $1,500.  You will not believe how many times you've called since I sent you that request and how much you owe me now...  Thank you so much!

I want the calls for a David Cook to stop coming to my phone. I do not know this person and do not appreciate being harassed 2 or more times a day every day after telling the caller they have the wrong number.

This number has called my cell  numerous times. I have no clue who it is or why they're calling. I just want the calls to STOP!

Nice thing about having a Verizon phone, I don't have to track the stupid calls from 800-496-4599 or its sister number 800496-4598,  I get the same thing as everyone else "this call is for *********, then NOTHING"
Averaging 10 to 15 calls a day.  over twenty on Labor day alone.  Since Sept 1st, over 400 calls.  I don't answer, just marked the number in my phone "No Answer".  They need to stop, the only time I answered and got a real person, told them there was no one at this number by that name, they still call.  Maybe my attorney can fix if.  The only loan I have is a car loan, I only have two payments left, and have never been late. In fact I'll be paying it off a year early.

Continue to get calls from this number and a different 800 number about an outstanding bill for our son.  He has not lived at this address in over 5 years.  They do not leave enough information to determine who the vendor is they are trying to collect for.  Our son did have some bills that were behind but has paid all them off over a year ago.  

Not only will they not speak to me, whom they are calling, but they will not STOP calling!!!  This has been going on for over a year.

Do not call them back. They will pickup your number from your caller id and research on you and try to collection tactic on you  from old dead accounts. Use your phone to black the number. from I have seen from early reply, that might not work, with all the numbers they used. Just do call them back, they want your info..

Good for you, actually!  You might have a great FDCPA case, $1,000 you can sue them for that violation since they called your place of work.

Thank you for posting the web site for erccollections.  The phone number on the web site is 800-942-0015.  The recorded message says to remove you number from their list press 1.  Then you enter your number.  The repeat it back and say allow 24 hours to remove.  Must get this alot.

They called me about someone who was not me to collect debt. If you call the number back, the first option you get is to have your phone number removed from the system. That is what I did. Hopefully, that will stop them from calling.

Ok people, here we go again. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT call these idiots back! It is a legit collections agency ( legit in the sense that they are trying to get someone or anyone to pay this debt) so they are calling to collect on old or sold debt ( as in abandoned hospital bills, services rendered, cell phones, etc., etc. ). FORGET the "Do not call list", it doesn't apply in this situation. Of course you could go the "sue" route but that will be years in the making and by that time, these jokers will be long gone and using hundreds of other numbers. Now listen up, when you call these jokers back, all that confirms is that you have a LIVE line and they will continue to call it NO MATTER WHAT! If you don't answer, eventually (usually 2 to 3 months) they will stop calling. REPEAT:  NEVER EVER ANSWER THESE PHONE CALLS... IF THEY DO, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO HARASS YOU FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS! STOP ANSWERING THE PHONE IF YOU DONT KNOW THE NUMBER!

Called the number you guys supplied and now listed first on their automated menu is press 1 to report a wrong number.  Entire call only took 55 seconds and it said it located my number and took it out of the system it should take up to 24 hours...lol...now that's funny

This is ERC (Enhanced Recovery Corporation) a debt collector. If they are calling for someone that is not at this number, CALL THEM BACK! Their automated response allows you to report a wrong number! Being on the do not call registry does not stop someone who has a business relations hip with you, they will be unaware if you are the new owner of a number of someone who previously had the number. (Your phone provider does not notify all collection agencies "Hey this number no longer belongs to who it did 6 weeks ago"

They called me 3 times this morning in about 20 minutes. I was asleep (I work until 2am) They left no message, but I called back and was prompted to press 1 to report a wrong number, so I did. And if you call and actually speak to someone, don't try to talk about the account. Tell them "This is my number, you are calling me, and I want you to stop." Even if you are in debt, you have the right to instruct the debt collector to stop calling your phone. Then, if they continue, you have the right to sue them. You can't stop them trying to collect a debt you legally owe, but you do have the right to forbid them to call you. And if it's not your debt, then you have the right to inform them and tell them, if you want to keep calling me about a debt that isn't mine, we can meet up in court.

I have been receiving calls from these people also. When I answer, all I get is music. That's it. No message, no answer, nothing. Really annoying.
