Record them keep track of a few of these calls, get names and if they are rude and treat you poorly call back and ask for a supervisor...play the rude comments , the dates and names and tell them you want to be compensated for this "abusive" behavior. I have heard in bad cases  the agency will dismiss the debt or seriously cut it. Collection agencies cannot be/use abusive language or attack you personally!.

For collection efforts concerning a debt a collector can call any day of the week from 8am to 9pm. That is what the law allows them to do. Few states have any local laws that effect this. It is best to talk to them or deal with the fact that they are going to keep calling.  Additionally, the do not call registry does not apply to debt collection at all.

This is some sort of scam !  This annoying number calls very early on Saturdays.  (Before 9:00 am)
I don't need any "diversified adjustment services" or what ever game they are playing in an attempt to extract money from unsuspecting people.

They called me, asked for the person by name.  I said "You have the wrong number."  When they asked me if I knew the person, I repeated that they have the wrong number and they hung up and did not return the call.  Sometimes a friend or relative will give you as a reference, and if they fall behind that is how collection agencies try to track them down.  My response is: you know their name, you must know their phone number and address and this is NOT it. And supposedly we have that "Do not call" thingy but it doesn't seem to work for these sorts of calls.

Dennis B,

I hate to bust your bubble but the Soldiers, Sailors Relief Act does not pertain only to interests since the NEW Patriot Act was enacted and approved by the US Senate. Now the Act both dictates the interest an active OR reservist can have on credit and also states that while the soldier or sailor is Serving his/her country the Dept Collectors can not charge addition fees or continue to HARASS the service member or his/her dependents while he/she is deployed. To continue to harass the member after he/she has enacted the Act is a Civil and Federal Violation of which the Service Member or his/her executive (Attorney or Power of Attorney) can pursue both repercussions and legal actions against the Debt Collection Agency.
I know this as fact because I am representing a Service member in an action against this very company "Diversified Adjustment Services" They have continually contacted his phone after he enacted the relief act. Where as he then contacted me his Attorney and I have notified Diversified Adjustment Services that if they continue to Harass my Client we will pursue the legal actions stated above. I sent this communications through certified mail... And guess what no more calls and the end of the Harassment.

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Yes, you can charge them.  Send them an invoice if you like.  But collecting on the invoice?  Not a chance.

Why not just assert your rights under the law?

Start here: <http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpajump.shtm>

You can make them stop calling, or sue them if they don't follow the law.  But you must educate yourself, starting with the link I have just provided.

Reverse boycott. Together we can destroy their cost/benefit ratio by consuming their service. Their legal model is less vulnerable than their business model. Individual efforts against their legal model have failed for years. United efforts against the robo-calling business model succeeds.

When a company can repeatedly call with the intent of getting money their customers can repeatedly answer or call back with the intent of not giving them any. They need people to pay with as little talk as possible. They don't want to talk with people who know they are never going to pay. Be all talk and no pay. Answer when convenient. Call back. Give no information. Verify nothing. Ask as many questions as you can. Answer none.

Don't ignore/block/report them. It doesn't work. These folks want you to ignore them for as long as you can stand to or until you give them something valuable like money or information. Ignoring them is being their good customer. Sending a cease and desist is giving information. It lets them know you are still alive and remain their good customer. Preparing to initiate unlikely individual legal battles is being their good customer.

Be their bad customer. Make them talk to you fruitlessly for as long as they can stand to or until they stop selecting you as their customer. These companies cannot spend seconds much less minutes on the phone with every person who will never send them a dime. But they don't know who that is. You do. That knowledge is power. Every second you can keep their staff on the phone will render their business less profitable giving them a reason to never call you again.

Calling will not reset your SOL. Making a partial payment will.

I like to ask general questions they should but usually won't answer, "May I have the name and address of your agent for service of process?" Calmly and slowly ask them to spell every word in the address. Read it back for verification. Control the pace. If they are rushing then politely ask them to slowly repeat. "Are you a corporation and if so in which state are you incorporated?" Repeat your questions when you don't get direct answers. When they won't answer a question ask, "Would you like to comply with the business and professions codes of your state?" That is usually the point when they hang up on me but if they say they want to comply then begin your questions again.

Repeat while you have the spare time. These folks have many victims and few operators. If everyone calls back but pays nothing the robo-calling business model quickly becomes unprofitable. Don't aide and comfort the enemy by ignoring them. Call! Have a nice long slow friendly chat! Make them hang up first.

For any business, customers who consume the most resources but don't pay (or otherwise add value) become the least desirable. Most businesses will stop (cease and desist) soliciting an undesirable customer. Those that don't stop remain knowingly vulnerable to the actions of their undesirable customers. Few companies can afford to let everyone take a piece of them whenever they want endlessly. Call and consume their operator time without paying or giving information. Be a bad customer. The worst customer. Inspire them to invoke their right to refuse you service by not soliciting you.

Unite or remain conquered. Answer/return every call - become well practiced at keeping these folks on the phone - or count yourself not amongst the free.

They have been very unprofessional with dealing with my husband.  He is also a collector, so knows all of the laws and will call them out on what they are doing wrong.  Which is a lot!!! He simply asks for proof of debt that they are trying to collect, which they have to provide if asked, and they get personal and refuse to send it.  Which means there is probably no debt at all.  They are trying to collect on money that isn't owed, which, isn't that illegal?! I have even called their main office trying to resolve this issue and/or file a complaint about the representatives we have talked to, and they have not called me back.  Sounds like a fishy operation to me.

the good thing about 18005048612 is that a computer answers the phone (it cost them money for the machine to answer), so program your phone speed dial #1 for their phone # and speed dial #2 like 20 random digits with the last the pound key (#), when the machine answers select 1 to enter an account # then load it up with SD#2, and do it over and over, it cost them money just like it cost you time and mental load. chris  with this firm is, well the reason why, i asked him to help me clear up the fact that the guy they are trying to find no longer has this number and he kept saying "i dont understand what you are saying". this company has called me over and over for the past 3 months even after i let them know that time warner told me that i am the 3rd person to have my number since the guy they are trying to find, they say MY number has been removed from the list, but 1 to 1&1/2 weeks later, the same number shows up....I SAY DO TO THEM AS THEY DO TO YOU, CALL OVER AND OVER, DO NOT BLOCK YOUR NUMBER, COST THEM MONEY AND THEY WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE!!!!!!!(i know its corny on my part, but i put about a total of 45 min. of robo calls to them a day (the same they do to you), they pay for every call that comes over the 800# and have done this for the past 16 days. maybe they have got the hint...
