I also got a txt saying my CITY OF BOSTON CU account was closed due to unusual activity and they asked me to call 8005060979. I am going to ignore it. My area code is in Boston, but I don't have a credit union account or any kind of City of Boston account.

This operation targets cell phones by geographic area using your area code & prefix of your cell #. I just got a text from them regarding a TTCU account...which I do not have. Most people won't call the 800#, but I guess they get enough to justify this sceme. The text appears to come from Backup@possumrungreenhouse.com but I doubt that company is involved. Possumrungreenhouse.com seems to be for a plant company in Ohio. #1.Do not call the 800#. #2.If they name a bank/credit union that you actually do business with, contact them with the information so they can do their investigation. #3. Pass the info along to your cell carrier to help their investigation. Or for those who like to prank scammers...#4.Splash this 800# everywhere you can so they get flooded with calls which cost a little $ to the owner/user of the 800#.

received the following SMS message on my tmobile phone:
CITYOFBOSTONCU@atmail14.tmomail.net / ALERT / Your CITY OF BOSTON CU account is closed due to unusual activity, call us now at 18005060979
It's interesting that they have used some database that tells them that 1) I am in Boston (easy since my area code is a Boston area code, and 2) that I am on TMobile. Anyway, this is obviously spam, probably attempting to phish for bank account information. Of course, I have no idea whom to report it to (other than here), but it would be nice if there was some law enforcement website that would allow the authorities to be immediately informed.

just received a text saying a local credit union acct has been closed due to unusual activity. call 1-800-506-0979. I don't have a TTCU account but I called anyway. It was an automated voice that immediately asked for my credit OR debit card number. I would report the number to someone but I don't know who to call.

I also got this call and it stated that it was from NCUA, left a text message with this number and asked to "verify" some information to reopen my credit union account. first thing it asks is for a debit/visa check card number.
