Yeah, beware.  This is most assuredly a scam. Don't give them any money! They have been leaving me voicemails to call them back at 800-508-1543. But whenever I call back all I ever get is their voicemail - no matter the time of day. I do have student loans with ACS Educational Services, however my loan payments have been deferred as I am back in school full-time. Having not been able to reach these people with the "skip-trace" department, I was getting nervous and wanted to make sure that everything is okay with my account and my payments are still being deferred until graduation, so I called ACS directly. Everything is fine with my account and my payments are still deferred! The people calling from the fraudulent ACS Education Services Skip-trace Department are a fraud just trying to scam people out of their money! Don't buy into it! If you need to make or defer payments with ACS, please deal with them directly.

Someone wrote my parents claiming that I used them as a reference which they were trying to verify. I told them to disregard. This was an obvious phishing ploy. This should be looked into officially.

I also got a call from this number and a message left on my machine. It did not give any info about why they were contacting me, just that I should call back right away. Like others stated, they also called one of my old references from many years ago trying to get my contact information. When I tried calling back the number, it said that the mailbox was full and not accepting calls. All of my info is current with my lenders and I have never been in default on a loan. Will call my real lenders to verify they did not call me as others have suggested and will caution my "reference" to report this number if they continue to call. Thankful that others reported this as suspicious before I gave out any information.

Two of my friends have received letters in the mail from ACS claiming they are trying to contact me to update my profile.  The ridiculous parts of this that make me wonder what the heck is going on: My name, address, and phone number have NOT changed the entire time I have held student loans; ACS no longer holds my students loans, they were transferred years ago; I have NEVER been in default on any of my loans; one of the people they contacted is my NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR and our street address almost identical.  Seriously, if these people have student loan information on me, then they also have my social security number, and they could EASILY access my current address using that alone.  Oh, and when I called during normal operating hours I got a voice mail telling me they were out of the office or on another call.  What's really irritating, is that they are giving out what appears to be MY ACCOUNT NUMBER to people who are still believed to be my friends (listed as references).  What if this is a real account number and my friends no longer lived at THEIR addresses and some idiot got this information?  I'm really annoyed and ready to report them to someone, just don't know who.  Maybe a call to our lawyer would be a good idea.

Hi all,

I called ACS Educational Services, the company I have my student loans with.  According to ACS, this new company Xerox is taking ACS over.  I found out that the person with the student loans has the right to request in writing that the collection efforts stop as I was told that you receive collection phone calls even if you're a FEW DAYS BEHIND.  How preposterous!!!  I also told the supervisor that I spoke to at ACS, that when the Xerox representative called me they lied stating they were getting return mail from my address when all my information is updated as I pay my loans monthly.  It seems that ACS is not giving this new company updated information about its clients. But you can write to P.O. Box 7051, Utica, New York 13504 to request the collection attempts stop.  BUT,,,make sure that your loan doesn't enter default status because they won't warn you if they come after you for being in default because you've stopped the collection attempts, per the ACS supervisor.

This company sent two letters to my best friend, and say they are ACS.  I called ACS and asked if they sent letters out?  They said "they would never do that and that the letters are bogus scam letters."  I had student loans in the past but all balances are zero.  They wanted my friend to provide information about me.   Of course I had her mail the letters and envelopes to me and it says "a Xerox company on the envelope..."   Very sketchy, and most definitely a scam.  Beware!

called my parents house asking for my best friend.  my parents told them that she doesn't live there and never has.  they asked if they knew her and they said yes so they asked for a phone number which of course my parents don't have so they left this phone number for my best friend to call back in case my parents ever see her.  it was really weird and they wouldn't say where they were calling from.  i told my friend about it and she has no idea why they would call my parents.

My sister got a voice mail on her house phone from this number. They said they were calling from Educational Services and it was in regards to a reference for me. I have no idea why they called my sister when I'm not even going to school, let alone put her down as a reference for anything.

My experience is the same. Had message on my answering machine saying they had me down for a reference for  my son. Left message and number to cal "Al" at Education Services. Called my son. He never heard of them and has not given my name as a reference. Did not return their call. Tried to do a reverse lookup at whitepages.com but they came up "empty." That's when I did a Google search for the number and found this site. Glad I did the search. We need to spread the word!!

Disability or not, you filed for a student loan, borrowed the money, and skipped out on it, they are trying to collect the debt, and treating them like that shows your true colors...file for a disability deferrement, or whatever, but don't blame them for it, they didn't cause it, you know...

No, everyone is not a "Linda," and how they got your number, is that someone you know, listed you as a reference on a student loan.  They called me, left an "angry woman's" voice, on my machine, looking for my brother.  I could tell "collections" the moment I heard her.  I called back, and got a very pleasant young man named of John, and he is just looking for any information to update how to reach my younger brother who listed me as a reference on the student loans that he has defaulted on.  I e-mailed my brother, and suggested that he call them and set up some kind of a deferrement till he can find a job teaching math in the state of Utah!?

They called and left a message, I called my brother, he has defaulted (not paid) on his student loans, and his phone is disconected.  They are a legit arm of ACS, and their primary job is to update contact info on loans, they are not the collection arm, best is to contact whoever they are looking for and tell them to call and work on getting a deferrement.

Got the same voice message, called them to inquire who they were and what they wanted, told me I listed was listed as a contact for my daughter (actaully ID'd her by name).  Said they were maintaining her school records and needed to update her phone number.  Told them I would have her call them as I was not giving out her phone number. Something strange here going on as her loan is current.

Melissa from Educational Services called me stating my friend's son listed me as a reference and she wanted to update his profile.  She also said the number she had was not working.  I told her I didn't have his number. I called her number 1-800-508-1543 back, ten minutes later because I wanted to question her about me being a reference and I got an answering machine.  How did these people get my number? Can the FCC stop these calls?

These people called my parent's house; I have not lived there for 8 years.  They were looking for me because I had owed them over $30,000 in student loans.  The school they claimed I went to is a Junior College that I attended while I was still in High School.  They said the charge started in early 2000 - I attended the JC in the mid 90's.  I calculated how long it would take to spend $30,000 at a JC - it would take 10 years going full time; meaning it would have to be 2013!
My parents did not give them any of my personal information.  They said that they would mail them a loan form with my signiture to varify the information.  The man on the telephone also said he was going to call back in two days to gather additional information he may need to process my account.

So this morning someone from this number calls my parents' house.  They ask for my best friend.  My best friend has never lived at my parents' house, which my parents told them.  I haven't even lived at my parents' house in over 5 years.  They asked my parents if they knew my best friend.  My mom said yes.  So they asked for her phone number, which my parents don't have, and told her so.  My mom asked why they were calling and how they got this number to reach my friend.  They wouldn't tell her why they were calling or where from but said that this phone number was listed as a reference number for my best friend.  They asked if they could leave a message for my best friend.  My mom told her that they never see or speak to my friend, which is true.  The woman still gave my mom her 800 number, 800-508-1543, and told my mom that if she ever runs into my friend to pass the number along.  My mom immediately called me and told me the story.  I immediately called my friend and told her the story.  My friend has no idea why anyone would call my parents house or what it is about.  It's all really really weird and sketchy.  I told my mom that if they call back to again tell them that my friend does not live there and that they don't know how to reach her and to please stop calling.

I saw in an above post that the company might be ACS.  What is that?

I received a voice mail message from a woman named Linda who said she was calling from "Education Services" regarding a person who, it was said, gave my name as a reference. (The person they named is my son-in-law.)

The person on the phone asked me to call 800-508-1543.

I immediately called my son-in-law to ask if he had given my name for any references.  He told me he had not given my name to anyone for a reference in a long time.  We decided to "google" the phone number to see if we could find any information about this "company."  I was taken to 800 Notes, a directory of unknown callers.  My suspicions were confirmed and I have not and will not respond.

They call saying that either it is "an important business matter" or "an educational services office."  I think it is a collection agency for a student loan lender.
