Same thing just happened.  I look at my statement and thought 14.95 WHAT is that? I checked online & now I know.

The best thing you can do is change your account number and card. Getting your money back is ify don't hold your breath.

This is what the bank had to say: Dear Customer, this letter is to inform you we have concluded our investigation regarding your dispute dated 1/27/2014. The following information gives the facts of the investigation and our final resolution.
Bank records indicate that you have history using this merchant's services. These charges have been posting to your account on a monthly basis since 9/18/2013. Per our account disclosures on error resolutions these transactions were not reported within the timeframe requirements and we will be unable to recover the funds for you and will not issue you a credit.  The name of the company is SPK-inform, the phone listed as 1-800-511-4336 I've been sick with liver problems and I haven't been reconciling my statements till I caught it this month as a  $14.95 charge. I didn't call or use this company's services at all what ever they are. I guess I'm just out the money according to the bank and I'm on disability it's really hard enough to get by without getting screwed over by SPK-inform and Washington Trust Bank! No one called me it just appeared on my bank statement. Anybody out there with the same problem please comment. Judy

I have had these fraudulent charges first from Privpro who has since changed their name to SPK*INFOARM since August 2013. My stupid idiotic card company still allows these charges to go through my account knowing this is fraudulent charge. The company is claiming to be a private security company for identity protection services for the customer from fraudulent charges not only against your banking/ debit/credit card accounts but from the credit bureaus as well. When you call the 1-800-511-4336, you get the answering service which tells you have reached the Identity Protection Department. The ironic thing is they are the ones stealing from the American people throughout the US and no one is doing anything about it. Yes, this company SPK*Infoarm , formally Privpro is linked to Spokeo which is a fraudulent company themselves....one man who uses other web sites and servers to locate the real identity of a person who is scamming you into fraudulent relationship or claiming to be a friend of your friends,a safe place for real people and identity thieves to obtain your info and steal your identity . If anyone has really looked up Spokeo, the owner of the company runs the company out of his apartment, not a real business.... he grosses over 18+ million/year, charging people an initial fee of 23.70 for 6 months, then a monthly fee of 14.95/month from all over the world. The address the company uses is an abandon warehouse in Pasadena, CA. His biggest customers are people off FaceBook . I first applied to Spokeo because of guys who all of a sudden start messaging my sister who is a widow, then myself and other friends off her friend list off facebook which lead to my contacts and the other peoples contacts....great pyramid scheme using everyones contacts and their email addresses to get info of your family and friends. This is a world wide fraudulent scheming process he started and is still getting away with. BTW...I cancelled Spokeo the same month after I applied to get info about some of these men who claimed to be US Soldiers stationed in various countries overseas wanting men and women to befriend them. Then following day after I canncelled my services with Spokeo is when the charges with Privpro started. I have called and left messages since then on a weekly/monthly bases with only one return call from a female from the customer service department.... no cancellation or money returned as I had told them to do.

I agree. I don't think this is Spokeo. I think it's a crooked fraudulent source debiting the accounts. I recently used my card at Target (recent breach-go google it) and this charge magically appeared on my bank statement. IF this company is debiting your account CANCEL YOUR CARD IMMEDIATELY and contact your financial institute to report it as fraud. I personally DO NOT believe it's Spokeo and there is NO POINT in calling the number that shows up on the statement.

Just found out they've been charging me $14.95 a month for 14 months without my authorization. It's a small joint account that I don't check regularly so the charge went undetected until now. I've asked my bank to block withdrawals from the debit card and to help me get that money back. I used the service once, did not authorize continued withdrawals, and never received a notice that I had "signed up" for ongoing services. Chase has been good about online security and fraud before so I hope it will be again.
There should be a law that requires companies to notify you about automatic billing!

I also paid that spokeo whatever as I was desperate to locate someone's phone number. It turned out that the information they had was not any good. I cancelled right away after paying once for their service rather than complain that their information was worthless / old / outdated / not accurate.  A month goes by and I just happened to be looking at my cc account online to check on other activity when I saw a pending charge from SM PRIV 18005114 ? I called my bank and had them freeze my account and then issue me a new card. A few days have gone by but they never got paid. It still shows as pending. I think I caught them before they actually got paid. Score one for the good guys.

I have the same problem PRIVPRO charge from my card 14,95 $ in August, September, October and that happened just exactly I pay subscription on SPOKEO. Just because I am in Russia, I cant find PRIVPRO and I change my credit card! wish I know how to litigate them and take my money back!

And, it's still happening. Yes, you sign up for Spokeo and they wind up telling you that you signed up for a 30 day free subscription and that you have to call them to cancel (even though you can cancel Spokeo online right away). Funny thing about it.....the first charge came 15 days after my Spokeo charge, it was 5 months before I caught it. And get this, because of some other charges on my credit card, I had to cancel the card I used for the Spokeo account, and somehow, they found out the new card number and continued to charge me monthly fees. Some privacy protection service. When I called them, they told me they would only refund 1 month. I called the bank and reported these as fraudulent transactions that I had not authorized, and the credit card company said they were going to refund all the charges, cancel my card, and send me a new one in 2 days without the additional charge for rush processing (normally 29.99).

The people on the phone are less than helpful. Actually believe that you are in the wrong on this. What a bunch of crap.

the true story for me is i was never informed dont, know this company and,they take 14.95 monthly on line from my account.went to bank to get statements then noticed, going back tomorrow to change cards and account number. then am going to see about getting money back. also reporting to better business bureau which, i if the more people complain to them the, quicker they shut them down and, get results.

PrivPro is charging me for something I never ordered or wanted. I signed up for Spokeo and began being charged by this company. I cancelled Spokeo but I am still being charged by PrivPro. I intend to file a report with BBB an consumer affairs in Ca.

Same thing, they charged $14.95 to my card company SPL*INFOARM on 10/12, when I called, I got the "call cannot be completed as dialed" message.

It is a scam related to Spokeo membership.  Not unlike unwittingly downloading Adobe Flash when updating your IOS.  I called them, gave the last four of my CC, and a very nice American girl cancelled my account and refunded my money in about a minute.

As scams go....not horrible.  I once got a fake disability insurance on my credit card.  The bank claimed no knowledge, and the phone number associated with the charge just bounced me around the US to different numbers on hold, disconnected calls, etc.  That cost $7k.  

They charged this to my card it says spk*infoarm 14.95 pending charges ... called bank I will be refunded called the customer service of the company and they told me they have no association with their billing and she didn't have the number to" google it"

Signed up to use Spokeo trial and started getting charges on my card.  Called card co because it was not listed as Spokeo, but privpro.  Credit card company has the reference number of cancellation when I disputed the charges.  The $14.97 charge from privpro stopped, but the $23.80 charge from Spokeo started.
This is fraud and has been reported as such.  I asked my credit card company to issue me a new card so they could not bill me a month later under a different business name.

I even called them and they said it was a onetime charge yet it still pops up every month! These are some low life crooks.!

I have been charged $14.95 from Provo.  POS #J0I8DQ *POS* PASADENA CA PRIVPR 18005114336 PRIVPR 18   I am reorting this to my bank as fraud.

SCAM!  Classic Switch-and-Bait via spokeo.com for a "partner" "trial subscription" which may or may not be buried in the fine print.  Beware!  DO NOT USE SPOKEO unless you are willing to get a "trial" subscription for $14.95 "Identity Theft" service that is worthless and very difficult to get rid of.

First it's almost impossible to get through to the 1800511433 number that appears on my CC bill.  They have limited office hours and you almost always get "All agents are busy, please try again later".  They also try to get you to enter a callback number for them to supposedly call you back, but they didn't call me back.

I finally got through to them on May 30 and requested the charges be removed.  I noticed this month the charge is still there on my July bill. I called again today (August 30) and finally got through today.  They said I signed up for a "trial" for the service via Spokeo, that it was a "multi-step process and that I opted in".  I NEVER sign up for these BS "Identity Theft" services, so I am sure I didn't in this case either.  At any rate they also said they had "no record" of my call in May.  Today I asked for a cancellation number number or something similar but (surprise!) they don't provide them.  I asked for some other proof I had cancelled, but all they could give me was the name of the person I spoke to and my "account ID" (of course this does not prove I cancelled).  

We will see if this stops the charges but I expect to have to challenge them via the CC company.  Of course, if you have used a debit card, you may be out of luck as they have few of the same protections credit cards do.  Good luck!

Because they are crooks!  when i called the number listed by my transaction history, I asked the guy, ok if I signed up for something, what service have you provided me with?? and he said what did you sign up for? I didnt sign up for anything, ONLY SPOKEO which i have my cancellation email from last May of 2012.  They have been taking 14.95 from my account for nearly 12 months and I just noticed it!
