Not exactly....

You have the right to tell a debt collector, in writing, to stop communicating with you. Once a debt collector receives your letter, it may not contact you again except to:

Tell you there will be no further contact
Tell you that it or the creditor may take other specific actions it is legally allowed to take, such as filing a lawsuit against you.

If the collector continues to call after receiving the letter, it may be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

You should make a copy of your letter and send the original to the debt collector. It is generally a good idea to send the letter by certified mail. If you pay for a ?return receipt,? you also will have proof the debt collector received your letter. You may also send the letter by fax, just be sure to keep a copy of the fax receipt.

Report any problems you have with a debt collector to the CFPB, the FTC, or your state's attorney general. You can also sue the debt collector violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). If you sue under the FDCPA and win, the debt collector must generally pay your attorney?s fees, and may also have to pay you damages.

This is the case whether you actually owe the debt or not.

What's most hilarious about your moronic response, is that it's rife with spelling and grammatical errors.  it is illegal to share someones personal information, but it is not illegal for the debt collector to identify themselves, and state they are attempting to contact that specific individual.  That idiotic line about "sharing a phone line" is nothing more than a junk debt collectors pathetic attempt to misuse the law to their advantage.  There is nothing in the federal statute that covers their ability to contact debtors through phone lines that are not clearly identifiable as the debtors.  Be there any question regarding the owner of that phone, they are obligated by law to send written correspondence.  What is illegal however, is any attempt to deceive, intimidate, harass or collect monies they know are not legally owed. They have an obligation to validate the debt in writing upon your demand.  Not just that you owe money, but since when, to whom, and for what.  Criminals posing as debt collectors will never seek to do anything in writing, because they know once you engage them and demand that they stop calling, the law clearly states that they must. Once you do and they violate the law, the fines are steep and add up per violation. There are attorneys who specialize in this, and will take your case on contingency.  As to the last remark declaring, "No wonder idots all owe money," one need not wonder who the idiot is really.  There are a whole host of criminals out there trying to collect non-existent debts, and even some of the so-called legitimate debt collectors engage in their illegal tactics as a means of enriching themselves dishonestly.  That makes them no better, and apparently their employees are just as stupid and dishonest.

But what the hospitals don't tell you is that they have programs available for you. Ask for the paperwork to fill out. Some call it charity care, or have several versions of these programs that can help you with partial or full payment! You need to ask them for this though! Once you fill it out, make copy's, make them sign for it. And as long as you send them 25 a month, not much they can do, you can dispute it with collection agency's.   They generally will get back to you within 30-90 day's on those though.

NOT a physhing scam, Caller.  It IS Nationwide Credit Corp.  If they are calling, you or someone who used to have your phone number owed/owes them money.  You are late with a payment(s) and they want their money.  They have a legal right to call, but not harass, you.  Their rights are broad and their right to collect takes precedence over your privacy.  It is all very distressing.

Read all of the posts here on this Website.  There is good advice about who to notify and how to proceed.  Nationwide specializes in servicing the healthcare industry.  They are very assertive, even aggressive, and they are PERSISTENT.  You have to decide it you want to talk to them but they won't give up.

Yelling, whining, complaining, etc., will only make you miserable and diffuse your energy uselessly.

They have called here for years...because of multiple surgeries and nursing home stays not completely covered by insurance.  Since there is no money to pay them...anything...and still eat and heat, they will probably never be paid so I have the joyous prospect of anticipating their endless calls.

Their caller ID transmogrifies with time.  It is currently "Free Call Toll".  A small pleasure is anticipating the next iteration.

Good Luck!

Debt Collector
6-10-13: Received a few phone calls from this NCC company regarding a disputed $$ amount for a medical bill. I have told the NCC reps.a few times THEY need to provide me a letter from the medical company they say I owe the $$ to, on that medical company letterhead & signed by someone authorized at the medical company - stating that NNC is authorized to collect any money on their behalf. Really, would a reasonable person pay anyone - any money they owe to anyone (ie. credit card) - just because someone called them and told them to pay them? That would be a really dumb move by any consumer without some sort of written proof. I will follow up with a letter to them (sent USPS Certified mail) stating they may not contact me by phone (or by any electronic device), and demanding NCC provide written proof to me that they are authorized to act on behalf of the medical company. CC the letter (again via USPS Certified mail) to the medical company along with a demand the medical company write down the error on their bill. Beyond that, if NCC continues to call without providing the reasonable info. I requested, I will have enough paperwork to file a complaint with the local consumer agency. Next call by NCC, I will answer by stating "I am recording this phone call for quality assurance and training purposes". Treat the NCC scum the way they treat you. Oh snap, I'm such as axxhole.

I think this person is calling from a cel phone because his phone kept cutting out.  The person had a thick, asian accent and butchered my name to the point that I question if he is able to really read english.  He asked me to call back, saying this is an attempt to collect a debt, and offered a reference number.

It is illegal if it is a collections call. WHY?? Because you may share a phone with someone else or it could be the wrong number. .So, it is again the law becuase a message would be giving out YOUR personal information which IS AGAINST THE LAW.  No wonder you idots all owe money

A timely "DV letter" does suspend collection activity until validation is sent. However ....

A collection agency in receipt of a written dispute is under no FDCPA time limit or obligation to respond if it chooses not to continue trying to collect. The five day rule applies only after the agency's first contact, within which time it must send an initial dunning letter. Texas has the only state law which always requires an agency to validate on demand.

Write them a certified letter and demand validation of the debt they are calling about. Under the FDCPA, they must respond within five days and are not allowed to continue collection activities until they provide written validation of the debt.

Phone just rang.  I ans'd.   Had to say hello 2-3 times before man came on the line.   He gave my name and asked me to confirm that was me.   I asked who he was.  He replied from Nationwide Credit Corp.   He asked me to confirm my birthdate.  I did NOT.   I asked what the call was about and who NCC was and he said it was about a confidential call.   I asked WHAT confidential call?   He said he could give me more information when I confirmed my birthday.   I told him I was on the National Do Not Call registry and said I was not going to give him ANY information.  I hung up.   I dialed *69 and the last number to call me ws 800-516-0216.    I am not in dept, do not need/want any further credit cards, and I'm furious he got through.   Is there anything that can be done about this ?

They call themselves Nationwide Credit Corp. to collect $133.38 'past due' from an MRI
in Feb.  Didn't give them any information. Double checked with MRI Office and I have no balance.
They strange thing is, they had my birthday, the fact I had an MRI on a specific date.  Where they made a mistake was, they had an address of mine from '08.  Just because someone calls you, don't trust them!
Don't call back #s they leave you on voicemails! Only call #s you know are legitimate from the back of your cards or invoices you got at the office!

it is a wrong number as in some one probably lied about their number and randomly chose yours. this guy first name paul chose mine. after a month of haveing it saved in my phone as "who is this?" i picked up and talked to a guy on the other end. i think its hilarious that before i finished typing in the number it popped up saying "getting unwanted calls by this number". they are not always on the other line when picked up. name calling is a no no for internetz cuz then it just degrades fast. but they are asking who you are when they call, and don't recognize or make known themselves...kinda sketchy. it may be illeagal to give out information about someone else, but as far as they know you are them lol. and saying who /what firm you work for wouldnt be intrusion of the targets privacy.

Received a call today from 800-516-0216 today.  I talked to a person named James who stated that he was from Nationwide Credit Agency.  He didn't give me a reference number or any information about why he was calling....just asked me to call back at the same number.  A bit strange.  I won't be calling back.
