received this text message at 2:59 PM today as well.

I received this text on October 29th at 8:23 pm that said: "Notice-Your CITY OF BOSTON CU Account is closed due to unusual activity, call us now at 18005182435. How can we stop this?

got this call yesterday 10/30  don't call.....they want info or maybe charge$$$$$$$$$$$$$$for calling the 1800 #

got it too.  Tried to call verizon to report this number since verizon seems to provide the service to this number.  But they were unhelpful either...  I wonder if anyone know how to report this kind of stuff better?  Or, all of you can try to call Verizon too, so that they will be aware of this... if enough people call, maybe they'll do something about it.

Just got a text message from this number, 18005182435, at 9:14 pm, Oct 29, 08, as the "cityofbostoncu.com" stating "my account was closed due to unusual activity".  The only "unusual activity" is their text message; I have never had such an account.  A definite scam!!!

I received a text message at 7:09pm reporting that my account had been closed due to suspicious activity. THIS IS FRAUD AND HAS BEEN REPORTRD TO THE FRAUD DEPT. OF BOSTON C.U. Hopefully no one gives out their personal info to the message system associated with this fraudulent text.

got the text at 5:33pm. I don't have verizon, nor do i live in boston (got a 508 #). I wonder how many people got this?

Agree with everyone here. I went to CBCU's website, and they had this to say:

"Recently City of Boston Credit Union members and non-members have received fraudulent emails, text messages and voice messages that look and sound as if they are from the Credit Union.  These messages are NOT from City of Boston Credit Union.

These messages have been in several forms including the following:

   * Surveys with a cash reward if you enter your personal information,
   * Implications that your account is in jeopardy of being closed or credit status unless you enter your information,
   * A notice that we are updating our security enhancements, so please enter your personal information,
   * Plus, many other schemes to entice people to enter their personal and confidential information.    

ALL OF THESE MESSAGES ARE FRAUDULENT!

City of Boston Credit Union would NEVER send you an email, text message or voice message requesting you to enter any of your personal information.  If you receive a message that looks like it is from City of Boston Credit Union requesting any type of personal information, DO NOT RESPOND and delete it immediately.  We are aware of the many different attempts that have been made via email, text and voice messages, if you would like to forward a copy of an email or report the text message or voice message phone number, please email it to awalker@cityofbostoncu.com.

IMPORTANT:
Credit Union Members:  If you are a City of Boston Credit Union Member and you did relinquish any of your personal information you should contact the Credit Union immediately at 617-635-3899.  If it is after business hours call 1-800-264-5578.  This is only necessary if you gave over any of your personal information.

I got one too, at like 6pm eastern.  Glad some people tried to call it and saw it was a hoax.

I got the same text 1:44pm I do not have a 617 number, I do have a 508 area code. It clearly seemed like a hoax, so I decided to google the number, and found that I was not alone.

This message is clearly a hoax, I had not even heard of City of Boston Credit Union before and no one would send such notifications via text message.

I got the same message and I have a different account.  this text will fool a lot of people who work for the city if they do belong to a credit union.

We should call the cell carrier and have the number blocked. I'm also looking into how we might report them to the Attorney General's Office.

I got the same message at 2:09 p.m. today. The caller id is cityofbostoncu.com, which is the actual credit union's website, making this scam extra sneaky.

I got the same thing. It is a hoax, don't call it. I hope no one actually does it.

There is a reference to this scam on the City of Boston CU website so they are aware of it.

I have a 617 area code and I recieved the text at 5 pm EST.

Got a text on my cell about 5:10 pm.  I knew it was BS, but I called anyway and entered random numbers.  It claimed the session was successful.  I was bored at work so I then sent the a**holes a return text claiming I had the number traced.  Hope I get a return text....mine are unlimited, let them pay!

Just received this message.  Ditto.  I don't even have text messaging on my plan and these things cost me money.  Morons.

There's a scam alart on City of Boston Federal Credit Union's website - I recieved a text message from this number stating my account was being closed (I do not nor ever had an account with them).  

As written on the bank's official website :
