There is no LEGITIMATE REASON for a debt collector to be contacting me....

Heres a trick
If the debt is legitimately yours and you just dont have the means to pay at that time, dont answer the call...boom!
#itsreeeeeeaaaallyythatsimple
#googlethenumberforreallll
#stoptressing

That is all....pay it when you are able and the calls will magically stop :)

We have great credit with NO Delinquent Debt, therefore there is NO LEGITIMATE REASON for a debt collector to be calling.
We both work in businesses that are related to the credit industry, we understand credit scores, how they are calculated, have the ability to pull Tri-merged Credit Reports and we understand how to read them. We also understand how to dispute FALSE or INACCURATE claims against our credit...  We will be watching DILIGENTLY for any FRAUDULENT CLAIMS.

As of this moment we will chalk this up as a PISHING ATTEMPT, SCAM or OTHER NUISANCE CALL.

SIDE NOTE:
A payroll company "Pay-Time" was compromised in a cyber attack earlier this year exposing the personal information of thousands of people (tv news report said SSN's were stolen). My other half was being paid by her employer through this payroll company. The letter we received from Pay-time notifying us of the breech did not state the level of compromise, however If our personal information was indeed compromised, it is possible this call could be a symptom of that compromise and some pain yet to come our way.

Yes , Do Not Call does apply to collection agencies. Read the Fair Credit Reporting Act + if the collection agency has been verbally instructed to stop calling they must stop or risk fines. Especially if they are skip tracing & calling individuals whose phone numbers are NOT related to the correct the company is seeking to collect a debt on.

They were attempting to collect $700 and refused to tell me who they were or what the debt was for.  I reported them to the NC Attorney General's Office

Which is why you are required to provide a legitimate, physical address. You minimum-wage cubicle clowns avoid providing that info. don't you?
Don't try to play in this sand-box. We'll turn you in to something one our cats buried in theirs. Wanna' play? Bring it on!

The ONLY way you can stop the calls from collections is if you send in a cease and desist letter or you are represented by an attorney, in most cases for bankruptcy and cease and desists. Otherwise, we are legally allowed to call you no matter if you are on the Do Not Call list and collect money you are contractually obligated to pay.

They called me saying that I had a felony on my record and that I needed to pay them 55 dollars and some change.
I refused to do anything until they provided me with detailed information, which he couldn't provide me with.
I also verified with my local police department that matters regarding felonies aren't addressed over the phone.

Received a call on my cell phone yesterday that I missed.  They called again today and I answered.  They opened with "this call will be recorded" . They asked for "Sue Taylor" and "Taylor" is my first name. (using aliases here...).  I confirmed my first name was Taylor, but Sue was not my name.  The caller didn't say who she was with but said she would remove my number.  Very strange.

5 calls from this number this week, and today is only Tuesday.  Never leaves a message.

I'm so glad I'm on the no call list and have been since day one.

If what you say was correct, then why have a credit score? A credit score is a reflection of your real ability to borrow, pay, and manage debt. If a (real) debt that you have not paid, is sold to a (real) collection company, then yes, you do still owe it. Regardless of whether you signed with the collection agency or not. It remains on your credit report for a minimum of 7 years, but how long you legally owe the debt varies from State to State. Remember, we're talking real debt here. Not the Asian one's, from foreign 3rd world extortionists, calling American's & trying to collect on fake debt.

A original debtor is ok to call, if they "sell" the debt to a collection agency - and it's been charged off , you never made a deal with the 2nd party - so yeah, debt collection by a sold debt , that you never signed for , will keep your credit score down, but show me where I signed for XYZ company to make payments?

IN other words - they make money when they get money from you - 100% of it - and they claim that they will take it off your credit report - but it takes 7 full years.

When you "do" something it is a physical act.

When something is owed it is "due"

That makes sense since I am looking for a job, but it concerns me that I put my name up on "reputable" websites such as Monster.

this is the first call from this number - they called my cell phone which is an 'emergency only' unit.  left no message.  there was a long string of calls from another number (888-475-6741) that i was getting a couple of months ago - i googled it and it was nco financial.  i owe no debt, no student loans, etc. and the cell is also on the do not call list.  this is harrassment!  why aren't these people stopped?

If you had bothered to read the comments, you would have realized that most of the comments are from people who have no debt. This organization, and others, have been calling my number since I first got it 12 years ago. The person who had it originally is the debtor, and every time the debt is sold to another collection agency, I start to get call again. I have nothing to do with this debt, but was able to find out where the person they asked for lives and works. It was easy. I believe that they are more interested in harassing people than collecting debts. I will never tell them anything I have found out, because they don't deserve it. I am not doing their work for them; they should earn their pay by working for it! I will never answer or return their calls. As for you, and others who type in caps and say PAY YOUR BILLS, I believe that you are plants from this unethical and sadistic company. I hope no one pays any attention to you. You are the dregs of humanity.

I think there are at least two different entities calling here; one is actually a collection agency as many have already posted, the other(s) is just another scam as with all the other calls we all get that use spoofed Caller IDs - that is, some scammers are spoofing a legitimate collection agency's 800 number.

The reason I type this is because we, too, are getting calls from this number but (1) we have no debt thus nothing to collect and (2) the calling person never lets the phone ring more than a couple times (to my cell phone formally a landline number). This suggests the calling person is using a VOIP spoofed Caller ID connection that detects the cell phone - in our case a real collection agency would leave at least ONE message from the dozen or so calls we've received but never has.

I am sick of these people calling my and not explaining why they are calling. They even called my step dad for me and said that I put his number down as an alternative number. I really wish this random calling would stop, because this is getting ridiculous.

I received a call from 800-521-3236 on my work phone - supposedly for my husband.  She would not even tell me the company she was calling from only that it was a "personal matter" for him.  First off, he would never give out my work phone for personal issues.  I find this VERY strange.
