Dialed # and they answered American Agencies
Ask for my # and last 4 digits of my SS# to confirm...
I got rude, so she needed a supervisor, thence music on hold.
After a while I hung up and called back, and got a 1010 redirect message.
Tried 800 num again and got "cannot connect from your location, all circuits are busy..."
Now no calls for two days.

I just received a call from this number on my cell phone. It was a prerecorded message from "American Agencies" asking that I return  their phone call. I called the number asked the lady why I would receive a pre-recorded call asking to call them back. She then asked for my phone number, but I asked again why I would receive the phone call? I was promptly disconnected.
I looked up American Agencies online and they seem to be some sort of collection agency.

I have tried to just ignore the phone calls but they have called me every day for the last 3+ months. I can't handle it anymore either!!
I filed a complaint with the FCC and I also found out that if you file a police report and get a case number you can report the information to AT&T's Annoyance Call Bureau at 800-348-8727. (I live in CA so it may be different in other states)

These calls keep coming in and I do not answer the phone. Who knows who they are but if it was anything important they wouldn't be leaving a non-descript robo-message on my answering machine.

Every other day, sometimes daily I receive half of a recorded message from this number on my mobile phone.

I do not have business with this entity, though the cell phone number was
given to me about three months ago (changed so that my cell and home were in the same area code).

I will get to the bottom of this.

Boy, I receive this call almost every other day.  I ignore it. The phone rings almost the same time every time.  I'm thinking of changing my phone number, but then again if I get another number, who knows what comes with that number.  I think I'm gonna report it to the do not call agency.

These overbearing collectors keep calling and harassing me even after I told them to STOP! I'm fed up with them and have notified the FTC about their illegal practices!
Below is a link to the form I filled out. If enough of us complain, then the government will have to do something about them.

I GOT A CALL TODAY ON MONDAY, MAY 5TH, 2008 FROM THIS NUMBER WITH A RECORDED MESSAGE TO CALL THEM BACK ABOUT A PERSONAL MATTER.

WHEN I CALLED THE NUMBER, THIS GIRL ANSWERED THE PHONE AND SAID THAT SHE IS CALLING FROM A COLLECTIONS AGENCY REGARDING DEBTS FROM SBCGLOBAL THAT WERE NOT PAID FROM ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO.

THOSE WERE FRAUDULENT FILES AND THEY ARE TRYING TO ILLEGALLY STEAL MONEY FROM ME FOR FRAUDULENT FILES THAT I AM NOT EVEN RESPONSIBLE FOR.

I WILL CONTACT THE FRAUD UNIT OF SBCGLOBAL ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY TO REPORT THIS FRAUDULENT COLLECTIONS AGENCY.

JUST A WARNING TO EVERYBODY OUT THERE.

BE CAREFUL WHEN ANSWERING YOUR PHONE AND RESPONDING BACK TO THESE TOLL FREE NUMBERS WITH STRANGE RECORDED MESSAGES ASKING YOU TO CALL THEM BACK REGARDING A PERSONAL MATTER.
Forward them to the police dept!

I have a service called "Select Call Forwarding" that lets you have a list of up to 10 numbers.  If any of them calls you, you hear about 1/5 of a ring on your phone and the call is immediately forwarded to the one number you choose.  (You can't pick up the call no matter how fast you are, and the callerid does not even appear (it is sent between the 1st and 2nd rings).

And I forward them to the local police.  (If you do this, make sure it's a non-emergency number.  It's a crime to waste the 911 people's time; they have lives to save.)

The callerid that the police receptionist gets is the caller's, not mine.

They catch on really quickly.  The phone company charges a standard monthly fee for this, but for me it's worth it.

My phone/caller ID provides a name and a number.  This caller BLOCKS THEIR NAME, but their number shows up and a recorded message states: "this is American Agency, this is not a sales call, we have a private matter to discuss with you... please call..."  Sounds like this company is working between the laws wherein they are creating the need for an entirely new law preventing this or face firm and severe criminal charges.  I don't believe the FCC can do anything about it if they say "this is not a sales call" unless one was willing to call them back and find out what they want, which I would not ever do and glad to see that many of you posting here are not willing to do that either.  It could be a hustle of some sort making you think they are a collection agency or what not, get your personal information and steal your identity or something of the sort.  I have my phone set to reject all calls who block caller ID.  They get through providing partial information, but, sneaky in that they block their name and then simply just state in their message that they are "American Agency" which leads me to believe they are a lot less than true blue and ethical and just simply on the slimy side.  This 800 number is hidden or unlisted as you cannot find it listed on any of the reverse number search engines - That doesn't sound like a ligitimate collection company - DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION... not even your name!

Another thought... Does anyone else think that this type of call may just be another way for the phone companies to press the issue that we all need to purchase the option of blocking particular callers/numbers?  Maybe a sales tactic of their own?

New Number, a cell phone won't get you away from these calls.  I've been getting them on my wireless number (which, btw has been registered on the national no-call directory).  I'm beginning to wonder whether the national directory works the other way now.....The way I see it, if they think it's important, they'll leave a message.  If I think it's important, I'll call back.  I don't care if these clowns need their crap call center job for $$, they can still go pound sand.  McDonalds is ALWAYS hiring.

We just bought a new house less than 6 months ago and had to get a new number too..which has been awful.  We are constantly getting telemarketing calls, personal calls looking for someone else, etc.  And now these calls from Sandy have started.  However, the last couple of days I have actually picked up the phone and a live person has been on the other end and I could not understand what language they were speaking or who they were asking for and so they hung up on me.  It was a business and not a personal call.  Then today's message was from a live person at American Agency.  They would not say who they were looking for just asked for a call back.  Guess what there number is the same as Sandy's 800-521-5116.  We are seriously considering turning off our home phone and just using our cell phones 100% of the time now.

After getting three 800-521-5116 calls this week at the exact same time of day, I reported them to the National No Not Call Registry, which whom we have been listed since 2006. I know for sure that we don't have creditors needing to talk with us, so it can't be that.  It may be a scam. The website for the National Do Not Call Registry is: https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx
Everyone should make certain to get listed and complain.

I get this message every few days also--even when I pick up the phone, it goes straight to the recorded message. Since they never indicate what company they are, and all the recording says is "Sandy from the Message Center" I will NEVER return this call--sounds like a scam/spam/bogus call.

Ditto the others. Problem is, the recording does not identify itself so you can't report it to the authorities. This is illegal. You are not permitted to use a machine to make cold calls. Some clown has used my number and collections are going after him. No, I do not know "Bill Murray." Nor do I have tea in the afternoons with George Lucas or do crack with Britney Spears! I got the name of one agency and reported them to the FCC and the calls stopped. This one is shadier.

What we need to do is to write to our congressmen & women to request a bill that forces all commercial phone numbers to be listed and easy to identify. Phone companies should be required to offer filtering services. The technology has been around for a while, but it's not offered to home users because telemarketers fight it. This has potentially fatal consequences.

In San Diego a few months ago, the fire department used reverse-911 to call people in the wee hours to tell them to get the heck out before the wild fires burned them in bed. Many people did not answer the phone because they thought it was this type of call. They could have been killed in the fires.

yea i got that problem 2. When I pick up the phone, I don't hear anything for like 5 seconds, then I hear "This is Sandy from the Message Center. We have a personal matter to discuss with you. Please return our call at 1-800-521-5116" Then when I responded to the number, it was just confusing. I just heard someone said American Agencies, then it hanged up.

It is a collections agency called American Agencies. I called from a nonhome number and got their recording. Don't call them back or acknowledge your identity, because that could restart the clock on credit reporting and in some states the statute of limitations on debt collection. Deal with them only in writing. Read about them at BudHibbs.com

I get a call EVERY DAY.  I've called back the number and they've told me that my number is on their do-not-call-list and I still get phone calls.  I've reported them to the FCC and you should all take the time to do the same.  If enough calls are reported then they get an investigation going.

Telemarketer
They call our work number about every other day. I have called them back twice to ask them to stop calling, gave them both of our numbers, and a woman said both times that she had neither of our numbers on file, so therefore couldn't take the number off their list. Yeah, right... I have no other idea for how to stop the calls though.
