Collection agency, looking for someone else. Just need to call from a land line, give them your cell phone number. They will tell you who they are looking for and you can tell them, no one here by that name. They will then tell you, sorry we will remove the number and that change will go into affect in 48 hours.

Don't know how these people found my number...just received a message to. Don't have a clue what the call was about.

Got a call on my cell asking me to call them back.....at the SAME number they had just called me from.  So why just not talk?  Anyways, called them & they gave some bogus name of person they were looking for.  I have had this cell for almost 4 years.  Said my number would be removed in 48 hours.  It better be.....costing me precious minutes.

These Jerks called me at 8 am! I have no i line hdea who they are but they called my cell and hung up then my land line and hung up!

"American Agency" was the identified name of business when calling 800 number. Seems to be Collection Agency and the only one I could find with that name is down in San Diego CA.

These calls are clever. They won't talk to you when you answer.  They want you to call in so they USE THEIR CALLER ID TO SEE IF IT'S REALLY YOU THAT THEY HAVE THE NUMBER FOR!!!  DON'T CALL THEM FROM YOUR PHONE OR HOUSE PHONE!

I got a call on my cell.  Went to the National do not call URL and submitted a complaint against the 800 521 5165 number and company name American Agency.  Supposed to be a hefty fine for the offenders.

They called my cell phone and left a message saying they were "the message center" and that they had "an important personal matter" to discuss with me.  I called the number and got some rude moron telling me to hold.  After I was on hold for over a minute I hung up. People like this should be given a hot caramel enema!!!

I called back this morning and spoke with Lisa Jacobs.  She described American Agency as an "accounts receivable management company" which is a fancy name for a collection agency.

They called my cell phone looking for the shady contractor who had its number 6-7 years ago.  This isn't the first time a collection agency has called me looking for the contractor.  She advised that my number would be removed from their database within 48 hours.

My theory is they purchase uncollectable debts (perhaps past their statute of limitations) for pennies on the dollar and then blitz the associated contact phone numbers to attempt to collect.  The blitzes must generate a huge amount of callbacks as Lisa sounded exasperated and put me on hold at least three times during our conversation to answer other calls.

One last note.  They see the number you are calling from thanks to ANI.  I called from a different phone and Lisa asked if I was calling about calls to *that* number, and not my cell phone.

This number keeps calling my child - with a ringtone that is not on the phone at all.  I will report it to the police if they do not stop calling.

i called them back from my work phone, about 5 times. finally talked to a person..they asked me for my cell phone number. I told them "you called me, here is my name". The woman said "it's an automated machine, we don't know your name". I asked them what all this was about, and she asked me for my cell number again...I told her i was not going to give any information but my name. She said no, and so did I. She threatened, "The calls won't stop until you give us your phone number"....I told her they can call until they are blue in the face but they aren't getting any information from me until I get some info from them. Then my co-worker started to laugh and I hung up....

I have received several calls from this company/individual.  I haven't figured out the scam yet!  If they can find you/us -- then one of us/you should be smart enough to find them?  Do ya think?  Is it time to reverse the problem? and not just keep spinnin our wheels complainin?  Who will be next?  What number will they use then?

Just call the number and ask them to remove it.  Piece of cake.

I couldn't get a hold of The Attorney General of California, nor the FTC, nor did the BBB help me out in my state.  I finally gave up and called the freaken place and they told me they were looking for some hispanic lady I have never heard of in my life. They said it would take 2 days to remove me from their list.  The manager I talked to was Kathy Graves and I told her she should be ashamed of herself for being part of such an unprofessional and deceptive business and that they had been unrighteously harassing me.  They could have identified themselves or left the name of lady and that problem would have been solved.  They did however only ask me for my phone number.  They didn't ask me any other information.  Let's just hope they leave us alone, now that they now I'm not the person they are looking for.  Oh by the way they are no longer located in Torrence Ca, only their po box is. Their old physical address was 2158 19th street, torrence CA so on and so forth I called 310 618 5923 the business licence office.  So if you do call them and demand their address, DEMAND THE ACTUAL PHYSICAL ADDRESS and do not settle for their PO Box.  Hopefully someone can get info together so we can file some complaints.  There have to be regulations about how often / when they can call you

I have received calls from this number repeatedly for the last 3 weeks.  When I call them back, I am left on hold for more than 4 minutes, so I have hung up.  Finally, today, someone answered.  The woman insisted it was not harassment, and stated that they were looking for a woman named Wanda who had this number in June of 2001 (which she only told me when I told her I had this number since 2001).  

I am on the cell phone do-not-call list.  When I told her I was going to file a complaint, she said that the do-not-call list does not apply to them.  She also said it was my own fault for not calling in sooner to have my number removed.
(I am also filing complaints everywhere I can.)

Well, they got my name and address right, but said something about an account over 8 years old, for a phone company I've never used... the girl said the account has passed through so many collection agencies they don't have the original contract, so they can't even prove to me that it's a real debt that I really owe.  For all I know, some computer screwed up and assigned me a debt that belongs to someone else.

Until they show me an original contract that I signed, I can't promise to pay a penny.  And for anyone else... if you have the least doubt, don't promise to pay until you already have proof in hand.  The phone calls can become aggressive, to which your first response is to hang up and block the number if possible -- and then respond in writing later.  And don't claim to be someone else; that just ends up as evidence against you if their claim is legitimate.  

The poor girl was so flustered... trying to do the best collection job possible... obviously she's taken a beating from callers and is under pressure from her own boss.  Don't blame her... she's just going by what the computer tells her.  I program computers.  And trust me, it's easy to link a debt to the wrong person.

To request they stop calling, send a letter, certified mail with return receipt, to:

Be polite -- the letter becomes part of legal record.  They'll contact you by mail instead of phone.  Give them 60 days to get their records straight, and if they still call after 60 days, file a complaint in writing with the AG's office with your call records.

Caller from "American Agencies" @ 1-800-521-5165 has left messages daily for ten days in a row.  We have no outstanding debt and will not return their call.  Have blocked that number.....why won't they stop?

These bastards don't negotiate as much as others... Pay off EVERY SINGLE ONE of your other bills with other creditors as they are willing to work with you much more than the jerks at American Agencies...

I got a call from these scumbags too! The debt isn't even mine! I've forwarded a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission per my Attorney General's websites advice. First I asked for proof which they would not provide. Then I asked them to stop calling and they kept calling again and again!

Got the same call, on my cell. Wanted me to call back for an important message. If have no debts, nor old debts to collect. So to ignore the call I set a special ringtone of silent, and add to my contacts as unwanted caller. It works great.
