Sorry are you gonna work 38 hours a week for 3.50 an hour so the vets can get over 50% of the donation? Didn't think so.

Thanks for the information. I received a call from these people a few days ago and told them I do not respond to telephone solicitations, and asked them to send a pledge form in the mail. This gives me time to investigate, and thank goodness for the information on this webpage. Just as I suspected, very little of the donations go to their stated purpose. Just another ripoff playing on our concern for our veterans - these people should be put out of business.

Thank you all for this info I will always ask what percentage actually goes to the charity. Now I will always check out what people have experienced. I will return the pledge I received in the mail letting them know exactly why there is no check and to take me off their list

Thank you, I just got a letter from them with my full name and address. Funny think is I never got 'the call'. I don't know how they got my info. I was so willing to donate, so sorry to know it's a scam =(

I received a call from them today. The caller was a male and spoke very fast. Wanted me to agree to give them $25 or $50 and they would send me the necessary paperwork to honor my gift. I declined saying that I had never heard of them and that prior to making commitment I wanted to do my research on them at which time the telephone solicitor politely but quickly terminated our call.

We were leary about this phone #. We received a reminder notice that we missed sending in a pledged amount. My wife suggested that google this organization first and I am grateful that I did. Judging from your comments, this seems to be a scam. One caller mentioned that the address is wrong and I agree. I decided not to send in the pledge that was asked for since this does seem like a scam.

Got a call yesterday from someone claiming persistently that I didn't return my check to Americans for Homeless and Disabled Vets. Wanted me to pay on-line I said I would check my records (turns out I did return a check) and write a check if warranted. She could not give me an address to send to.

Got a letter for donation so I called and they answered the phone, Good Afternoon, when I asked what company this was, she said we serve many. I said I wanted to donate clothes just to see if she'd say they only accepted money. She said I'd need to contact the local office, I asked for the phone number which she didn't have, I asked why they didn't have the number being that they were the Association for Disabled Vets which she couldn't answer. I told her to take my number off the list and she agreed. I told her they were a fraudulent company and she was very quick to Hang up. I looked them up through the BBB, which the assoc was unfounded with that address. Do not donate!!!!!'

I was about to send $100 to this place and before I sent it I just wanted to do a quick search. Man, I am glad I did. I have recently recieved an email from my father about how almost nothing goes to the people in most of the so called 'honorable' charities. The percentage ratios were awful-some giving as little as 5% to the people and millions to the CEO and other big wigs. Sad sad world.....

Thought I would check this out. thanks for the info. My mother got duped into a pledge by a phone call thinking it was the DAV

Received a call from Homless and Disabled Veterans...Told them it was not on my list of whom to contribute. Couldn't find it on Charity Navigator....It has area code 314
barbara 2013-07-08 18:16:18 Unknown
I received the same thing but the mailing address on mine is 440 w. colfax st #1039, Palatine, il 60067
Cher 2013-07-08 17:11:11 Unknown
This organization is listed as one of the worst charities and have been looked at by the authorities and fined. Do no donate to this organization, little or none goes to charity.
Susan 2013-07-06 19:47:05 Unknown
I received the same call soliciting a pledge. I have always contributed to the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW and was suspicious of this call since the others solicit by mail. The caller tried to persuade me to commit for a greater amount than I usually send, which made me think it was from the DAV but I said I would determine the amount when the mailing arrived. After seeing their mailing I knew it was different than the DAV. I'm so happy that I checked the comments regarding this organization and I agree that 26% toward the cause is disgraceful.
I'm glad to know of the Charity Navigator for future bogus solicitations.

Don't send them anything ! These organizations pull at your heart strings. I really should know better. For legitimate groups check out the ratings on Charity Navigator. Hang up on ALL phone solicitations.
slingshotbob 2013-06-04 23:30:08 Unknown
Wow Thats exactly what i did. I have the check all written out for $50.00. I had a gut feeling about this and here I am doing the research. 26% is absolutley unacceptable. I will call them at 800-524-0592 and request that my phone# be removed. I am a Viet Nam veteran (U.S.N) and I always give to our Vets. It's hard to find an honest charity that gives it all or most of it to our veterans,
Joanne Fong 2013-06-02 20:40:30 Unknown
They're now calling all the way to Hawaii, so beware fellow residents! They solicited a $15 commitment from me. When we received the letter from them, we checked Google and decided not to participate just like all the other folks writing on this site.
Jane 2013-05-28 20:51:51 Unknown
Thanks I did the same... Scam!!!!!!
Lois P 2013-04-29 18:27:53 Unknown
Thanks for the info! 26% is a rip off to our vets! Companies like this should be out of business!!!! I called the number and it is an umbrella for different "charity" programs. It's 1-800-524-0592 and I told them no money and take me off their calling list. Seems if you give to one charity... you are OPEN for business!

I was about to mail my check, but after looking on the internet I think this is probably a scam.
Better safe then sorry. I will contribute to something I know to be legitimate for are men and women of honor.

I received a call from this organization as well. The young man on the phone was very nice but my suspicions were raised when he spent almost ten minutes trying to involve me in some kind of pyramid "wellness product" scheme. I was also not pleased when the call verifier tried to get a DEBIT card number from me and then hung up when I said I would wait to receive info in the mail.
