Not Fraud - Really from HSBC Fraud Dept
Not Fraud - Really from HSBC Fraud Dept

Received a message for my parents from HSBC Fraud Department asking them to call 800-528-0694 and provide them with this long reference # they left on the message. We first called 800-528-0694 but was hesitant to confirm information to them because we were afraid it was a scam, so the rep told us to contact the HSBC customer service # on the back of the atm card and ask to be transferred to the fraud department. So that's what we did, but the only way I was able to finally speak to an actual customer service rep was following dan's suggestion above by selecting 5 to open a new account. The HSBC customer service rep informed us that the call was indeed initiated by HSBC fraud department and transferred us to them. After verifying some transactions, we were able to take care of everything. Basically, there was an unusual transaction on my parents card but it indeed was done by my parents so everything was ok. Glad HSBC is right on top of everything because they called right away. So if there really was a fraudulent activity on my parents account, we were notified immediately.

It is legitimate.  I checked my account and they confirmed activity.  It is HSBC fraud.  I spoke with them and independently verified everything.  You can also see it from this web address, which is also verified: https://www.us.hsbc.com/1/2/home/site/security/report-fraud

Legitimate call from HSBC Fraud Center.  My card was duplicated and was being used in another state.  They flagged the change in location as suspicious and called me to verify.  Thankful they did!

It is HSBC. I never pick up 800 numbers either but it's their fraud department. They followup with an email if you have one on file.

Today I received another one of their "we think there may be fraud on your account" calls. They usually aren't anything but today it turned out to be fraud from my recent trip to NYC. A duplicate card was made and over $1k in charges in 2 days. Ugh. I think it was from my car service as they made an impression of my card for their charges.

Definitely call them back. I have received about 2 dozen calls from HSBC and am usually annoyed but this time it proved to be an issue. If I hadn't called them back asap who knows how many more charges would have gone through. And it's 7-10 business days to get the money back in your account. :-(

The number is NOT A SCAM. Enter the phone number into google's searchbox and one of the results should be for HSBC's fraud section of their website. I got a call from them as well, today, and called them back to verify some purchases i recently made.

I got an email from HSBC Fraud Detection Services asking me to call back this number (800-528-0694). I call ed them back but on a different Customer Service Number provided on their webpage. It turned out to be right. The email was send from HSBC and they wanted to verify a unusual transaction.

This was a legit number not a scam. It was HSBC fraud and security department. I entered my pin number wrong too many times and got locked out. They had me verify some not too personal information and unlocked me. I didn't have to give them my account numbers or anything. Verified my name, how long account was open, and last four of my social. They then proceeded to ask me about the 6 transactions I had just attempted and verified it was me doing it. My card was unlocked immediately. Talked to HSBC and all it OK so I don't think this was a case of fraud.

This is 100% a right number. I called and they verified all the transaction in the last days. They were all over the world and there is no way they could know about them if it was not the real HSBC.

I also got a call from this number 800-528-0694 that showed up as a "3267" on my phone.  Was suspicious about it and looked online to see if there were any active scams and glad to get advice from others who had this experience.  I checked with HSBC and no suspicious transactions have appeared on my account.  Clearly a phishing scam.

I just got a voicemail to call this number at 6:30 on a Sat. night. It also gave a reference number. Howeverr before I called the number I checked the fraud protection part of the HSBC website. The website says that do NOT give personal information on a call that you do not initiate . It also says that HSBC will never ask for password information on the phone.

Good thing I checked because when I returned the call the man on the line refused to give me any information about the alleged suspicious transaction  unless I answered my security questions---exactly what the HSBC website says I should not do.

This number is a SCAM. DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THIS PEOPLE.

SCAM ALERT!!

okay. i just got a call from "6110" and they left a message saying they were HSBC fraud detection department and to call back this number 800-528-0694.  they gave me a reference number as well.

i called hsbc customer service myself (not the number they left on the message) and they did not find any record of the fraud department trying to contact me from any of my HSBC accounts. I told them about the call i received and provided the reference number.   HSBC said they did not make the call, nor was the reference number given to me valid.  So i think this is a SCAM.

definitely not a scam. i called the number, gave no specific account details (i.e. just name and how long the account has been open) and they told me about half a dozen transactions on my account (all legit).

Absolutely not a scam. When I logged into my HSBC account and clicked the security link it brought me to the website http://www.hsbcusa.com/security/report_fraud.html . I called and gave my # and authorized the charges. My phone numvers changed, so they sent the email

Heh, regarding what Nathan posted, I was able to locate that website right from the main page of HSBC.

If you go here, which is the HSBC front page, the website provided on my debit: us.hsbc.com
Then follow the steps:
1) On the right hand side, under Quick Links, the second link should say "Security Site". Click on it.
2) You should now be redirected to a new page, their security site! Now click on the big link on the right hand side that says, "Report Fraud Now!"
3) On that page, you should see, "HSBC Bank USA savings or checking account or HSBC Bank USA debit card:    800-528-0694 Opt 4" Which is the exact same page that Nathan has posted that he thought was a scam.

The only thing I was confused about on that page was that the number (800-528-0694) were for NON-HSBC customers. I am a customer... but at least I am able to confirm that the number is legit.

However, I still didn't call it, I had to be extra careful.

Stick with calling Customer Support at the back of your card! :)

What Dan said is absolutely right.

I first received an e-mail and several text messages from HSBC claiming there was suspicious activity on my card. I thought it was a total scam, and even went on this very same website to see what others had to say.

However, they also left me voicemails when I never picked up my phone, and this got me worrying. I eventually ended up calling the HSBC customer support number on the back of my card, and they transferred me over to the Fraud Department.

I found out from a HSBC representative that there was indeed suspicious activity. Someone tried buying a British airline ticket with my debit card number. :s The representative was also able to list some of the other purchases I made myself on my card.

I'm thankful they stopped the British airline payment. They were calling me to see if it was indeed myself who bought it, but I didn't, and they were able to cancel it. They sent me a new card too the next week.

Your best bet is to not actually call the number the text messages/voicemails/e-mails provided, but to just call Customer Service. Good luck all, make good judgments.

I received a call from this number. caller id showed a 4 digit number 3270. calling the standard hsbc number 1-800-975-4722, I ignored the first prompt for account number, then pressed 5 to make a new account, then 3 for the life insurance garbage. got human, he checked notes on account, he saw nothing on the account. transferred to the fraud dept. I gave reference number left in my voicemail. I was able to confirm some contact/account info to confirm identity, then they asked if i made a certain purchase at a certain time on a certain day. I asked the agent the number of their department and it is indeed 1-800-528-0694. As far as the website above goes, that does seem different from the normal hsbc site, but it does have the same general customer service number and the fraud department number. best bet is to call number on back of card and check for notations on the account, then get transferred to the fraud department directly to verify account info/notes.

google searching that number I came across this website:
http://www.hsbcusa.com/security/report_fraud.html

which lists this number as a calling number.  The website is OBVIOUSLY a scam (note the hsbcusa.com, instead of us.hsbc.com), and that makes this number part of the scam.

It's HSBC's Fraud Protection Division. They were checking on some transactions that I made. Verification of identity were not personal, so there wasn't anything sketchy about it.
