There is no need to be nasty. It is not a piece of s*** company or a scam. It is LJ Ross and Associates. They legitimately are trying to reconcile medical debt. If the person calling is asking for someone you don't know or had your number previously, you will get further by conveying this information to the person on the phone rather than playing games.

I've been receiving these calls from LJ Ross Associates the 800 530 3790 number.  Each time I'm asked to verify who I am and the needed to speak to me regarding a private matter.  I asked the caller what is the private matter and they refuse to tell me. I tell them I do not give out any personal information over the phone to anyone and if they have a matter to discuss to mail me with their concerns.  No, I did not give them my mailing address.  I don't know what this could be about because all my bills are paid on time and I am not delinquent in any bills. I was told they sent me information in the mail on 5/9/14...not received yet, but we'll see!

It is a scam! They have been calling my 13 yr old daughters cell phone every other day for 2 months. When I call them back I'm told they never called my daughters phone . I only give them a cell number to check not a name. And yet I have no doctor bills that I owe so It's a scam!

Wanted to verify SS# first thing. I asked who I was talking to and they said L.J. Ross.  I asked what kind of business it was and she said I'm calling about a personal matter. I then said I needed to know what the personal was before I gave any information and they hung up on me.

Debt Collector
Okay people here's the deal.  This is a medical debt collection agency based in Jackson, MI but that services the entire U.S.  Typically what happens is this:
1) You receive medical treatment.
2) The provider submits the bill to your insurance company
3) The insurance company pays the allowed amount (but often the treatment provider hasn't coded the bill properly and all or part of it gets rejected.)
4) Assuming the bill has been correctly coded there is usually either a deductable (the amount that you must pay out of pocket before your insurance kicks in) for example if you have a $500 deductible you have to pay $500 (usually in a year) before the insurance pays anything, or a co-pay (something like a 80:20 split of the fee between you and your insurance provider) So for instance if you're prescription costs a total of $100 you would have to pay $20 and your insurance company picks up the other $80.
5) Healthcare providers typically don't have a clue how much out of pocket you will have to pay until they submit it to the insurance carrier, so they may tell you that you are "all set" leaving you thinking that you are all paid up and covered when you aren't.
6) You receive a bill (somewhere 60-90 later) that says you owe $x amount.
7) You call your insurance company and probably get the run around, but often it's them telling you something you don't want to hear, like "you have $1500 deductable so you owe $984.00"
8) By this time you will have received several letters from the medical provider (maybe not, some are horrible about this)
9) The medical company sells the bill (usually for pennies on the dollar).
10) The lowest form of subhuman calls you and demands payment.  Because they work on commission they will try every form of coercion to get you to pay, and will often cross ethical and legal lines.
11) If you pay you're credit score will be adversely affected as the debt will be listed as "paid in collection" but if you don't pay the obnoxious calls and threatening letters will continue until the debt collector will write off the debt and you will have an even bigger blot on your credit score.  And don't listen to the half-wits who are telling you that it is illegal to gig your credit score for this, they are balls out wrong.

Now you are probably thinking, but I don't owe anything and you may be correct.  Medical Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes out there and someone may be going to the doctor's under your name, using your identity.  In other cases, it is just a screw up between the medical provider and the insurance company.

Some of you are also thinking, they are looking for someone else, they have the wrong number.  Maybe, but far more likely is some low life scam artist gave their real name and YOUR phone number.  The calls will continue until you explain the jackals at the collection agency (that are one bad fall away from roasting in hell) that someone is fraudlently using your phone number.  These aren't bright people---for years Adam and Cindy Hernandez have been using my phone number fraudulently and when I explained this to one of the sub-simian goofballs that called to collect he asked if I knew how to get a hold of them.

So your best bet is to pay the money whether you owe it or not (and sue the medical provider if they turned over a debt to collection in error) or call them back and tell them that someone is using your phone number fraudulently if that is truly the case; it will probably take three or four phone calls before the idiots get the message, but at that point I encourage you to tell the bottom-feeders who can't hold a job taking the trash out at a fast food restaurant exactly what you think of them and their chosen profession.

If you do decide to pay, know your rights and be smart about it.  First, ask them what they are prepared to take as payment in full.  Time is money and every time they have to call costs them a little more to collect the debt; since they bought the debt for pennies on the dollar they may be inclined to settle for substantially less than what they initially ask you for.  And remember, federal law prohibits them from refusing a "reasonable payment plan offer" (at least it used to, I'm not a lawyer so you may want to check) typically this is a monthly payment plan of at least 10% of the principle.

Take detailed notes during your conversation with these sleazebags (ideally you should record the conversation, but you will have to disclose this and have them verbally acknowledge that they understand you are recording the call) If they threaten you, tell you that they won't accept a payment plan, or try any sleazy illegal tactic they will face serious Federal repercussions.

And be sure to thank in a big and personal way, the medical provider who turned your bill over to collection.

Don't be a scumbag, don't lie and say the person who is being billed recently passed away, just pay your bills like you were supposed to.  If you can't afford to pay bills, don't take on responsibilities in the first place.

They call my home phone multiple times a day. It does not have a vm set up on it. I don't give out this number, I use my cell number for everything. Since I got this home phone, I got telemarketers calling 12-20 times a day. how ridiculous? Signed up for the DNC list, down to about 5 or 5 a day.  anyways, Caller ID comes up LJ Ross.

I don't know who this caller is - I have received calls on and off from this 800 530 3790 number - more frequently earlier and not so many recently. I have no idea what this is about and find it very random. They don't leave a message and wake up every few months to call.?? I don't owe any amounts anywhere.

Well I don't owe any medical, utility, car, retail, etc. etc. bills.  All of my bills are paid on time and I'm in good standing with all of my creditors yet they keep calling me.  When I answer, I get no one.  When I call back, I get no response.   I am on the DO NOT CALL Registry so now I'm very annoyed and will be reporting them ASAP and I will be putting them on my blocked caller list as well.

I just blocked this number from calling me thanks to you guys. they leave messages all the time and keep calling and its aggravating. bothering someone to death is not going to get you what you want. I'm sure they will call from another number but I will just keep blocking as they keep calling. I guess Verizon Wireless is good for something.

This is a  automated recording that asked for a person in the household with no reference to the organization  on the caller id.  I do not respond to these calls because they can write a letter instead of calling.  There are so many scans out that I do not give out any information.
