Meredian contacted me acting as if they were representing my current mortgage co. They told they would be able to refinance my morgage at a lower interest rate. They required me to put down $2745 to lock in my interest rate and provide my financial information which I did. They then told me my loan was approved. After a couple of days they informed me they were not able to do the loan and they told me they would get me a refund right away. Then they told me it would be a couple of weeks. After weeks of getting the run around they told me that they were not going to give me my money back. They responded to a complaint I filed with the better business bureau saying I canceled the loan and therefore forfitted my deposit. I never did cancel, but this is their game to steal your deposit. If you've been ripped of by these scammers contact Anthony Lembi at the Orange County D.A.'s office, he would like to hear your story. You can also notify California division of Corporations, California Dept. of Real Estate. Meredian knows that the amounts they steal are small enough that most people won't get an attorney involved so be very careful if you are thinking of dealing with this company. ken2036@aol.com

Got a call today from "Underwriting Department", promising a lower rate. Sounds like a scam to me.
Want his home number? 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
According to whitepages.com, James T. Assali's home number is 949-679-2993. He lives at 29 Shady Ln, Irvine, Ca 92603. If you get calls at 5 am, maybe he would like you to call his house and give him the same treatment.

Phnoe number is on the "Do Not Call" List
ray 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
THIS IS A SCAM, Jason and everyone else need to NOT consider giving them any information or money. I just received a call from them this morning and it was their standard message. If it was legit they would not be offering the same 5.875% rate for 2 years now, would they? The rates change daily! I don't even have a mortgage since I paid it off 3 years ago!!! The number they said to call was 800-540-1288, but caller id showed 775-637-6551 with Luning NV as the name. I also have my numbers registered on all the DNC lists, but it never makes a difference. Legit businesses would not be breaking a federal law to begin with either. And it never does any good to call them and ask to have your number removed either. The best thing to do is to report them to your AG's office, the BBB, and the DNC registry. Once they receive enough complaints about a company they will finally take action, unforntunately this does take awhile. Of course the companies just start up again under another name, but that's what crooks do.
Susan 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Jason- You need to contact your Attorney General
joe 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Well, they are at it again it seems. They acted as though they were my current mortgage holder, and offered me a "lower" mortgage rate (it was higher).
Jason 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Hi, Jason again, letting you know how things are going. Not well...Essentially what they do is promise the world (like save $700 a month), take your money, and then MAYBE get you a loan that might save you $50, and if you don't take it they keep your money. That is if you can get ahold of someone. They called every day getting my info and the $500 once they got it, no one called and I can't get ahold of any one. The 30 day lock rate deal came and went. I called every few days, and about every week and half I would get someone who would "pass my info" to someone who could get this going. After a month and a half I said give me my money, were done playing this game. I was told that since they can save me up to $100 with this new loan deal I can not get my money back (I have yet to be offered this new loan, I have asked to hear the details but again, no one gets back to me or answers my calls)
DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE GUYS, AND I AM CONTACTING THE BBB
Jason

Just got a call this morning to call James at extension 1722.
Other details just the same as mentioned above.
I am on national and state DO NOT CALL LIST.
Jason 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Hi, I got the same call as everyone else from the recorded voice, and since we were in the market for a refinance I thought that was how they got my number (i could not remember all the places I called. I smelled a scam but after looking at the BBB and talking with one of the guys (Jason (same as mine)) a lot, because this smells like a scam, he seemed like the real deal. So after thinking about it ALOT, I thought I would wait until I could afford to lose $500 if it is a scam, since I would save $600+ a month if it worked out.
I am letting you guys know that I started this about two weeks ago and will keep you updated as to what really goes on. Because so far I have not seen anyone fall for it-----I decided to try so we can be sure if this is a scam or not. Jason

9/14/09 Received voice-mail from Linda Fear, Mortgage Underwriting, they want to lower the interest rate on my mortgage to 5.875%, 30-yr fixed. Message was to call James, the underwriter, at 800-540-1288 ext. 1722, within 3 days. They have left messages previously and always imply that they are calling from my current mortgage holder. I am on both the Florida and National "Do Not Call" Lists. Something clearly needs to be done about these telemarkers who have no respect for a person's privacy, let alone the law.
John in MN 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
I received the same message from "Linda, the Senior Underwriter".
The number she asked us to call was 800-540-1288 ext. 1722 to talk with "James"
We are in the "Do Not Call" registry, too.
Ed 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
I received the same call as everyone else; however, they indicated that they were affiliated with Countrywide/Bank of America so I thought it was legit. Had several conversations with Johnny and then James Assali offered to lock my rate at 5.5%, but he wanted a $500 deposit for the rate lock guarantee. REALLY?!? You want me to pay you to hold a rate that I supposedly deserve based on my credit history. Get Real! These guys are total crooks
Julie 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
I received the same call from "Linda, senior underwriter for my account" who left a message almost verbatem as described in all the previous comments. I am also on the Do Not Call list; whether or not it does any good, I just filed a complaint about Meridian with the Do Not Call website.
Scott 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Recorded message...same info that everyone else is typing in this forum. I was told to ask for James at x 1722...offer only valid for three business days, etc...5.875%.
Jaye 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
I received the same call as the others on this page:
Message from "Linda, the Senior Underwriter".
The number she asked us to call was 800-540-1288 ext. 1722 to talk with "James"
I feel sorry for the people that will fall for these scammers.
The "do not call" registry we signed up with is looking more and more like it is useless.

They called to offer refinancing for a mortgage.
John K. 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Many calls from this number. When I answer, they hang up
Mark 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Today I received a message purporting to be from "Linda, a senior underwriter, calling about your existing mortgage account" and stating that "based on recent payment activity" their department was authorized to offer us a lower interest rate to lower our monthly payment.
The only problem was, she quoted a 30-year fixed rate of "5.875%" -- which is actually *higher* than our current fixed interest rate! So, obviously a scam.
She did not identify the company she represented nor did she mention our actual current mortgage servicing company. She said simply to call "Scott" another "underwriter" at 866-509-0393, ext 117.
The number on caller ID, though, was 800-540-1288, and when I called there, the person answering identified the company as "Meredian Loan Servicing" -- a company we have never done any kind of business with before. And clearly an outfit trying to prey on unsuspecting consumers caught in the current mortgage crisis. The caller ID also had the caller's name listed as "Petry Maint"
Since we're on every do not call list known to man, I reported the call both to the Indiana State Attorney General and to the FTC do-not-call complaint site.
Fred B - Florida 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
I got the same offer 5.875% APR, which my present APR with Countrywide.
Why should I re-finance after 2 1/2 years and get a mortgage for 30 more years?
NATIONAL NO-CALL LIST MEANS NOTHING TO THESE PEOPLE
Kay 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
We also received a voice message from Linda, a Senior Underwriter, who stated that "based on recent payment activity is authorized to offer us a lower interest rate to lower our monthly payment". She quoted a 5.875% 30-year fixed mortgage with no out-of-pocket costs. She said to contact James, the underwriter for our account, at 1-800-540-1288, Ext. 1722 and that this offer was valid for only 3 business days.
I checked our mortgage papers and this number did not look familiar, so I did an online search and found some very interesting comments from other individuals saying that they, too, had received some calls and that this is, indeed, a telemarketer with Meridian Loan.
Jonathan 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
We had a call today on our phone that is registered on the DNC. Well they said they worked with GMAC finance. They said they were working with our mortgage company about our mortgage and we have 3 days to respond about our loan.
The funny part is that we do not have a loan at all. Our home is Free and Clear.
When we called back to inform them they answered the phone as Merdian Mortgage.
I feel that this is unfair business practice.
Tired of calls 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
I called and had a conversation with Meredian. To get them to stop you have to "opt out" with your mortgage company. Your company has "partnered" with Meredian to solicit refinancing. I called my mortgage company who in turn provided me with their "Privacy Center" contact number. It seems to me it should be the other way around. I think I should have approved releasing my personal finance information and not the other way aroud. Hopefully it stops.

These recorded calls from 800-540-1288 Lisa, keep coming in always stating "this is your last call". When? If I call and don't get hung up on, which is a miracle, I ask for ext 1722 James the underwriter which of course the girl claims is busy. Uh huh it always is. Then I state I want my number removed and I'm hung up on immediately! So rude and I'm so sick of it. I'm on the do not call list and it doesn't help. I also learned that everyone that jumped to do the do not call list, that once your year is up, the companies all have access to your number until you do it again. Even then they can call you then you have to be able to tell them not to call anymore. You can't talk to a recorded message. grrr!! Very annoying.
Bob 2011-06-06 20:58:00 Unknown
Same as above callers said. Message left sounded like it was from my lender. False. I called and asked why they were calling my "do not call" listed number. Jamie said they represented thousands of lenders and would put me on their "internal" "do not call" list - my number doesn't appear to callers and, when I asked what number she was putting on that list, she hung up on me. SCAM
