It's a legitimate call. Just to be safe, however, hang up and then call the number printed on the back of your LL Bean Visa card. That way you know you are talking to the right people.

It was in fact a call from my LL Bean Visa Card Fraud Detection Unit.  Someone tried to use my card for an over $200 charge at a gas station a couple hours from my house.  Very impressed that they caught this right away and contacted me.

I keep getting calls from this number... in fact, got 3 on Mar 1, 2014.  I do not answer these calls, having memorized the 800 number...While a customer can be telephoned by a business that has a relationship with the customer, there is a definite wrong in a persistently greedy company (bank likely in this case) trying to reach someone, and interrrupting other activities that the customer may legitimately be involved in. . .

Your comments are correct. Never call back a number given to you in a email, fax, voice message, or text. Caller says there is something wrong with your credit card, call them using a number YOU get. Caller ID is too easy to fake. The number may be real, but that doesn't mean the caller is. Always a good idea to NEVER give out personal, or financial information on a call you did not make.

Well, I just got an email from the fraud protection unit. Figured it for a phishing scam so I called the number on my LL Bean Card. Turns out to be an actual alert, somebody just tried to make a purchase at an Apple Store. So it's legit. Not sure who the folks are who are crying "scam". When in doubt, don't trust the information provided in any phone call/email but contact the company directly with the information YOU have on your card or statement. That should clear things up.

800-541-8471 is a legitimate number for LLBean Visa  card fraud line. I  just purchased an item for $200+ on line, but kept having trouble completing the purchase. My card was rejected 3 times before I corrected my address  - I had inadvertently reversed 2 numbers. This aroused suspicion. I'm thankful that Visa is on the ball and checked with me to be sure  that I made  the purchase. If you don't answer the phone, they will send you an e-mail requesting that you get in touch with  them (if you don't they might hold up purchases until you contact  them).  If you're unsure about this, you can call the number on the back of your LLBean  visa card.

I also don't answer 800 calls, but this one left a message.  The message was that a charge for over $500 to some kind on marketting firm in Australia has just charged my LLBean Visa Card!!!  YIKES!! They denied the charge, and I called them back immediately.
The people I spoke with were on top of it all. And needless to say, I am VERY Grateful!!
So I have one of those fones were you can block, etc.  I entered this # as LLBEAN VISA FRAUD Detection, and saved it in the memory.
Right before I got that call, I was trying to block the calls from HSUS (a so called humane society. They use less than 1% of thier funds for animals at all. The rest goes to their legal fund and retirement funds!!)  So my phone was out of memory of calls it could block. So I found how to get back in to erase old #s that no longer call, so I could block new ones. I found you could block entire area codes!!!!  And I was just about to block 800,888. 877, 866, when that LLBEAN ViSA call came in!!
SOMEONE WAS LOOKIN OUT FOR ME, EH?????  I am VERRRY grateful!!!!
Thankyou 800 notes!!!

This is indeed a legitimate no. For the LL Bean credit card fraud unit. Got 2 emails from them, and before I could reply they called me. There was a charge for over $300 for a clothing company that I have never head of. My present card will be cancelled, and they will send one with a new number.

I typically do not answer "Toll Free" calls so let this one go.  Within minutes after this call I got an email from Fraud Detection on my Bean Visa card.  Sure enough it was a fraudulent charge!  They caught it and called within two minutes!  Very impressive!

I just received a call from this number this morning.  I did not answer since I did not recognize the number.  I then googled the number which brought me here.  I made a purchase for law books on amazon last night with my llbean card and figured this may be what the call was about.  I did not call this number back, instead I called the number on the back of my llbean card.  Once I was connected with llbean, I was asked for my information, and indeed they were wanting to know if the purchase I made last night for the books was authorized by me.  I don't know why a bunch of people got on here and said the number was a scam.  Be smart and do what I did.  Call your credit card company with the number you know is theirs, the one on the back of your card, if there's a problem they will know.

I got an email saying my LLBean VISA may have a fraudulant charge and asked that I call the aforementioned 800 number.  It had the name of the primary card holder and the last four digits of my (secondary holder) credit card.   I was afraid it may be phishing, so I called the 866 number listed on my credit card instead.   There was in fact, a fradulant charge on my card, which resulted the canceling and reissuing of my card.  I cannot speak to the legitimacy of this 800 number, but can tell you I received an email with the 800-541-8471 number notifying me of possible fraud and there was fraud.

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

This is not a valid number - it's a phishing fraud - callers with heavy foreign accent claiming there has been "fraudulent activity" on my card and trying to get card information.

Note the fake shill postings here all claiming the number is real - a sure sign of a fraud!

In fact, the number is bogus - I confirmed it with LL Bean.

Received a call from this number. Was in fact LL Bean's fraud detection unit wanting verification for a purchase at a telecommunications company. I did make a purchase from a company that I didn't figure would be considered telecommunications. Barclay's saw the charge and flagged it in case it was an unauthorized charge by such an establishment. I'm impressed with the attention to my account.

My wife took a call, called me to the phone to listen to it, and the message referred to a charge acct and gave a case number and this call back number 800-541-8471.  Instead, I called the Customer Service #  on the back of her credit card, and learned it was a legitimate inquiry about a real charge from a company with which we do business regularly, and that they make such calls occasionally. But still, I would never call back the number given in such a message, but use a known number for the caller. And I am just as cautious about e-mails.

It is legit... we were worried it was a phishing scam, and called the number on the online account statement. There was a red flag on our account as a technology company was trying to automatically renew a subscription and had charged $1 to see if the card was still good.

Called llbean visa myself and got it straightened out.  Very quick, impressive fraud detection.

A happy customer!  :)

Just got a call on my personal cell from 800-541-8471. Didn't answer but something's in my voice mail. Checked VM and it's from LL Bean VISA Charge Fraud Detection Unit. I do not have an LL Bean VISA card. Message says it's for "Diane Paige Dixon" or "Tara T. Dixon" Case #528375. I'm reporting to do not call.gov.
