I emailed the treasurer of SDEMTA and found that the fundraiser, in this case, was legitimate.  They paid a company to solicit for them and use the money for education and conference speakers.

I got a call from the South Dakota Emergency Medical Technicians' Association asking for a donation.  When they sent out the information, it had this phone number listed with extension 354.  The SDEMTA is a legitimate organization, with links on one of the State government websites, but I don't see this address anywhere on their page, so I'm still skeptical.

Claimed to be "Montana Assn of Chiefs of Police", called twice this month (Mar 2008).  I merely explain to caller that I NEVER make ANY donation commitments over the phone and that if s/he wants me to consider donating, then s/he MUST send info to my PO Box.  At that point, s/he hangs up.

They call, but no one is there if I answer. I'v tried calling back and just get a recording.
Evidently they are a legitimate (only in the eyes of the law) fund raising company for law enforcement and fire departments. No way to know how much they actually send to these agencies. Unfotunately their status allows them to call even if you are on the National do Not Call list.

Every call to an 800# costs them money. Keep calling them, when the recording answers, hang-up and call again! Keep calling until you get to talk to a real person so you can tell them to remove your number from their calling list. If they won't stop calling you, keep calling them and costing them money until they stop!

I get these calls daily, the caller id says fundraiser.   Very annoying since I've been on the do not call list for years/

Toll Free 800-557-1454 has appeared on our caller ID several times this month,July 2008 (8am-8:58pm), VEY ANNOYING!!!
Of the seven times I answered "hello" I was greeted to a hang up.

I asked the caller how much of the proceeds to toward administrative costs.  Caller hemmed and hawed and could not give me a figure.  I said they could mail me their info, but I would not promise a donation until I had verified that they were a legitimate charity.  The caller then referred me to the 800 number and hung up.  Sounds fishy to me.

My husband received a call from this number in November, he 'pledged' $15 so they mailed a statement which I threw away (not knowing he had pledged). They sent another 'Reminder Statement'on Dec. 30, 2009  from "Washington State Law Enforcement Association", 1425 Broadway, PMB 527, Seattle, WA 98122, with phone #(800) 557-1454, ext.375. So I did some research on the internet and found the Washington State Law Enforcement Association but none of the information matched up (such as their address is in Olympia, WA).  We threw away the statement.

I have received several calls from Montana Police Protective Assocaiton MPPA and they never leave a message. If you call back there is a recording that refers you to this 800 number where you get another recording. Waste of time!

Typically the 800-557-1454 calls and states they represent some organization such as the Firemen, Sheriff, State Patrol, etc.. However, I'm not sure whom they represent as I would believe all of these organizations would not be this dis-respectful. I think finding the name, address and contact information of the supposed non-profit entity and reporting to them directly the disgusting tactics they use representing the many different agencies might be a better way to stop the intrusions. I don't support anyone that calls my home, it is my choice and I believe my privacy trumps their disrespect in every case.

Got the call at 8:45pm. Said that they were the Washington State Patrol fundraising.  I have told them not to call before, this time told them again, remove me from their list and said that I would report them.

Received a call today 1-800-557-1454 CID='Toll Free Service'. Answered, when there was a delay before someone picked up, I hung up. Upon call back the person answered with 'Sponsorship Office'. I hung up as I am not a sponsor or potential sponsor. BUT if they call again, we're going to have some tail chasing fun! May as well, harass them like they harass us.

Called in the middle of the afternoon. Phone kept ringing until voice mail picked up. They didn't leave a message.

We got a phone call about 8:82pm but no one was on the other line.. or they weren't speaking anyway. So I hung up and dialed *69 which reported that the number of the last incoming call was from 800-557-1454.

These people have been hounding my phone number.  I have answered twice and both times they've garbled my name.  I say, "Please put me on your 'do not call list'" and they still call.  Today I said, "Do not call me!  Put me on your do not call list!" and the man said, "But it's for a good cause!" and I said, "I don't care!!"  If anyone knows of a way to get these people to stop calling, please write.

I picked up the phone and didn't say anything. It sounded like the person on the other end was chatting with the person sitting next to him. Then he hung up before saying anything to me.

I just received a call (2:06pm) on Sunday 7/13/08 from 1-800-557-1454 again. No messages & no responses when pick up. Practically, they call us day and night. As soon as we sat at dinner table, usually they call. It is terribly disrecpectful and annoying when they don't respond. I'm also sick and tired of calls asking for money!!!! Because I've been unemployed for several years.  I need money to pay my medical bills.

These telemarketers show up as "800 Services" on caller ID. They call late in the evening, say they are calling on behalf of firefighter or police organizations. When you ask them to take your number off their solicitation list, they threaten to give your number to 5 other telemarketing agencies.
Please report them to National do not call or FCC.

Called at least 6 times the last 2 days - hung up without a word when I answered.  Call disconnects before answering machine comes on.  ANNOYING!!!!

Called me this afternoon. I answered and they hung up without saying a word.

Called and addressed me as Mrs., I said yes very pleasant said they were from the Police Association and were trying to collect funds for missing and exploited children and would mail out the info if I were interested.  I told him no I wasn't interested but I live where we don't even have a police department so don't know who they were hoping to con into this.
