They didn't phone me - I phoned them (number on return label card). Here's why I LOVE 800notes.com - vacuum storage bags arrived in today's mail - I did not order them - had no clue what it was about. Also phoned the 800 number and was taken through loops without being able to speak to a human. Came to this page and yes, have used freebizmags.com in the past - it must be related to them.

Thanks for clarification - I do believe with the rest of you, though, that the lack of a company name or how a package came to be delivered is troublesome, even if it is legit, which it appears to be.

I had renewed a magazine subscription from MagsForMiles.com with the promise of free gas.

I got 4 gas coupons.

Each is for $5, they must be mailed separately, with self-addressed stamped return envelopes
Only one can be redeemed every 30 days
They must be redeemed in four consecutive months
They must be submitted in numerical order as written on the coupon (which are labeled 4 through 1)

What MacAtk posted about FreeBizMag rings a bell with me.  I think a while back I clicked on something involving them and filled it out using my nickname.  My nickname, MARK THEMES, just got a small clock with a built-in LCD thermometer in the mail, FBM P.O. Box 3000 St. Cloud, Mn 56397 return address, 1-800-586-5257 phone number, and presorted U.S. postage paid by Synapse Gift Services, Inc.

Since it came to my nickname, it has to be from something I filled-out online.  I only do that when I'm willing to fill-out some "free" offer but want to make sure they don't have my real name if they do suddenly ask for a credit card.  I think it's just been so long and wasn't anything I thought about much at the time, so I forgot I was expecting a free clock in the mail.

I'm not getting any magazines or expecting any or paying for any, so maybe what I filled-out wasn't FreeBizMag, but it was some similar free item offer online.  I don't think I expected to really get anything, but I don't think it's a scam, other than to maybe get e-mails and addresses.

Interesting to see that there are others who thought it was odd that they got a free item seemingly out of the blue.  The fact that FBM and Synapse Gift Services, Inc. are unknown companies that seem to be hard to track down does make it all kind of odd.  I would think that whoever sent it would want to get some credit.  Maybe I would consider using them for my next magazine subscription, or bulk widget purchase, or whatever, just because I got a free clock.  Who knows?  However, I do remember that I'm expecting a Snuggie in the mail from a free offer online and I seriously doubt I will ever buy one.  At first, I was thinking maybe the clock came instead of the Snuggie, but that FreeBizMag thing really did remind me of something else I did online.  A free clock just isn't as memorable as a Snuggie.

Just tried finding out who or what this package I received came from and stumbled across this page.  I received a cheaply made travel alarm clock.  I don't recall ordering or buying anything that offered a free gift, so who knows why they sent it to me.

Totally perplexing, till I started writing this message.  Then PING!...it dawned on me.

Today I received a generic (no manufacturer named) Bluetooth Headset ("R66 Mini Headset") in the mail, having no recollection of ordering or paying for such a thing.  The Return Address stated  FBM - P.O. Box 3000, St. Cloud, MN 56397  1-800-586-5257.  I called the number and hit a totally automated system that provided no company name, no valid options and no "Live Person" option.  Then while typing this post to complain of their aninimity, it dawned on me what this was.

In SEPT'09 I'd received a solicitation from FreeBizMag.com (they give away free business magazine subscriptions as loss leaders).  The offer was to receive a Free Bluetooth Headset.  Again apparently as a loss leader, cause I found no "Gotchyas" in their fine print.  I used a nick name, a valid email address used strictly for Junk like this and my PO Box for the mailing, to limit the amount of junk I will undoubtedly start receiving.  So sure enough, the Headset offer was legit!

Obviously this "FBM" is simply a clearinghouse for a bunch of marketing companies.  Ergo the inability to find a name associated with the business, cause I'm sure they do this for a bunch of firms and they shelter themselves in this fashion.  Some legit companies like my experience and some not-so-legit I'm sure.  But at least this story has a happy ending, as this will not continue to bug the piss out of me till I figured it out!

Okay, I think I've figured this out.  I got a 2GB Flash Drive and was completely perplexed.  It had this phone number and the address PO Box 3000, St Cloud, MN 56397 on the package.  I looked that up and even went to the MN Sec of State web site for corporations.  Nothing!

Then I looked over to the upper right of the label and noticed, "US Postage Pd Synapse Group Inc."  Well, this pulls up as at Time Warner subsidiary that is in charge of marketing and reward programs for magazine subscriptions.  I am guessing that we subscribed to something, or got a gift subscription, that included a free (whatever your item is).  In other words, it is legit.  I just don't know why they have to be so secretive and make everyone suspicious.  Idiots, as far as I'm concerned.

I visited my father at a rehabilitation center today, and he had received a wallet with a postcard used as the mailing label. He claims he did not order anything. I tried calling 800-586-5257 and keep looping in menues. May I ask as to what you did the the wallet? Did this company bill your credit card, or something?
