Credited my Barclaycard $0.07 on 01 Oct 08 - why?  Seems fishy, will query this with credit card company

Bogus charge to my checkings account for 16 cents by IPS 800-590-6984 on October 2. I will be getting a new card #.

Oct. 2 for $.13 by IPS 800-590-6984.  Checked "800notes com" on today's date...13 other people's debit/credit cards across the country have been charged anywhere from $.09 to $.17 on Oct. 1st or 2nd by the same 'company.'  I have closed that card and applied for new number as this type of charge is done to find out if it is an actual account and then a larger withdrawal is made on a later date.

I received a fraudulent charge for $0.10. None of my geographical or accounting information seems to have anything in common with anyone else here who has mentioned anything. My guess is it's an inside job. Someone got has gotten a hold of a list of valid card numbers from a company who we all do business with ...

I have several other accounts and they do not appear to have been affected.

I got hit 10/01 for $.14. Vendor is IPS. Bank is disputing the charge.

Received a charge on debit card from this "company" for .10 on October 11th, 2008. When trying to call number to find out what the place was it was n automated voice saying the number has not yet been activated, and to call customer service regarding this number.

There is information on this type of crime.  Go to:  http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-500-6113/2    and look up a post by "Salvo" on Dec. 31, 2007.  In that post, there a link to a very detailed report on dslreports.com.  Also, if you go to ic3.gov, you can file a complaint (complete it for 'identity theft').  IC3 is a government site that is compiled by the FBI and two other groups.

This number showed up on my credit card with an $.11 charge. Listed as IPS in California. Unable to find additional info.

My bank closed the card, will issue a new number, and will investigate the charge.  Maryland's Office of the Attorney General was unable to offer any assistance; the representative commented that it was "only $.13."  I guess he didn't see the big picture.
I didn't bother making contact with the Attorney General's office for CA (as someone suggested) as I was not able to find confirmation that the number was out of CA.

Thanks for your posts!  I just found the same type of charge against my account for $.13 (dated Oct. 02) by "IPS".  I will contact my bank and Maryland and California's Attorney General's Offices in the morning to report this incident.  
Has anyone else used DVD rental vending kiosks such as Red Box DVD or DVD Express?  I use my card at Walmart, local food markets, gas stations, and restaurants, and to pay bills for utilities, medical appts., and cable tv.  The kiosk rentals have been the only transactions that have raised my suspicion.  
My husband, who works on computers (IT Specialist), advised that there are programs that can generate card numbers for this type of scam.
Hopefully, we will all follow-up with the appropriate agencies and these people will be prosecuted.

They hit me too!! I am in Maine, got a $0.15 charge on my debit card. My bank actually froze the account because of this as part of their fraud protection service. Thank you to my bank. I looked this up while on the phone with them and could not believe the many others who had been hit too. I have canceled my card and have not asked to have it reissued. The charge was on October 2, 2008.

My account was hit for $0.16 on 10/2/08 as a POS Purchase by IPS 800-590-6984. I googled the number found all of you. The banks are closed today, but I will be calling first thing in the morning.

Someone also charged me .17, 10/1, with this number as info, but I havent been in the us since last of june. I live in Sweden, so it really confused me! My bank has canceled my credit card now, they did it without a doubt...

My husband and I just noticed a charge of 13 cents made on 10/1. We live in NY and the account is at Citizens Bank. We don't do netflix. We're oon the phone right now trying to cancel our cards or whomever's card they can determine the charge was made through.

The same thing happened to me.  .17 charged on 10/2- I have already cancelled my card-This is an account on a local bank in TX.  I seldom use it.  I have not even looked at it in 3 months.  Is it a coincident that the charge appeared the day I looked at it?

Charge to my bank acct for 10 cents never authorized by this IPS "company" filed a compaint with e FTC and closed all accounts. They also apparently use (866) 500-6113 and the day before the charge of 10 cents went thru my account I had six calls from (714) 673-4109.

I just found a $0.17 charge on my checking account as well. When I called the number I got a "not yet activated" message. I immediately called my bank and they took the charge off, telling me to closely monitor my account for further fraud before they take action to close my account. $0.17 may not be much but if they get enough people with this small amount, it adds up pretty quick!

Got the same FRAUDULENT charges on my Bank of America debit card for .07 cents last week.  I've made NO recent purchases except to local businesses.  My bank reversed the charges and closed my account.  I hope they can track these people down and put them away.  It says IPS out of CA.

I got a charge for $0.09 to my credit card.  Called the number.. said something like the number wasn't activated.  I closed my account right away.  I don't use netflix. I live in VT.  Not sure what any of us have in common.

I recieved a charge on my card from IPS 8005906984 on october 2 in the amount of $.13 I believe this to be a fraudulent charge also and have blocked my card I live in south dakota and bank at Black Hills Federal Credit Union Please watch for these kind of charges too many people are getting hit the same way and on the same day.

I also received a charge of .13 from the same people on my Capital One credit card. It is a Visa card. Transaction was posted October 2. I am a member of Netflix. I just disputed the charge and canceled my card.

So far I don't have anything in common with anyone (except we were all scammed).

This same thing happened to me for .17, the only thing that I can think of is I ordered something over the phone and gave my card number over the phone.  The charge was to bestcostumeoutlet.com and it was out of California.  I live in Iowa.  Has anyone else purchased from them?

I have taken care of all my things. Please, if you haven't done this, do so it's the best shot we have a stopping this person (these people) and having charges brought against them. If nothing else you are protecting yourself.

My account was hit with a $.14 debit on 10/2/08.  I have cancelled my debit card and contacted the state Attorney General's office in Missouri. I am also going to make a complaint to the California state Attorney General, as my bank says the company responsible for the debit is there.

Has anyone made online software purchases line McAfee or Spy-No-More (sometimes they direct you to a third-party site to purchase the license...)  That's the most suspicious thing in my recent purchases.
