I've received several calls from 800-600-6358, usually two calls on the days I get these calls (which isn't everyday but often enough to be a problem) and when I searched the number it appears to be a phishing scam.  Why are these calls still being generated? Can't the number be shut down?  I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize but from what I've read online, this appears to be a Verizon phone number.  Wtf?!?!?!

Called twice today. Missed the first, answered the second. It told me (some guy who mumbled) was trying to call me, and to press 1 to accept or press 2 to send a voicemail back to him. I've never had a collect call, don't know if they're on cell phones, but this sounded a lot like one so I didn't press a thing.
The call terminated itself after 15 seconds total.

Past two Saturdays received two calls from this number about 5 minutes apart: each time phone rang twice and then stopped.  No message left.  I also have old Katara flip-phone through Credo Mobile, who I think contracts through Verizon.

I had a similiar "Verizon wants to give me a credit for being a loyal customer" by email - and it was VERY convincing, with a link to the Verizon website.  Well, they ended up hacking my verizon.com account - changed my password & my phone and I ended up with almost $1000 in calls in Cuba!
Grrrr!

Same as above. If you have an iPhone with ios7 you can block any number on your contact list. Just scroll down to the end and tap on "Block this Caller". I've named it AaSpam so it's at the top of my list and easier to add. It seems that an unlimited number of numbers can be added to a list.

I am receiving unwanted calls from these numbers many times a day

800.600.1228

They say they are from Verizon.  I do not have a Verizon account and realize this is a scam; however, something must be done.

Called on several of our Verizon phones...it's not Verizon who is calling.  Verizon will take a report on the number if you are a current customer, and they will block it as well.

The scammers are using autodialers on a list of known exchanges for specific carriers.  If you are not a current Verizon customer, it just means that, at some point in the past, your number was likely part of an assigned Verizon exchange block.

Do Not Call doesn't work in such situations, since they are calling every possible number for each exchange.  They also spoof the Caller ID number that shows up on your phone (so calling it back gets you nothing but a non-working-number message, since it's not a 'real' phone number), and change that number frequently to get around carrier blocks.

Unfortunately these days the only way you can protect yourself from such scams is to never answer any call for which there is no ID given or the phone number shown is unknown to you.  Sucks, but that's the way it goes...

Definitely a scam. Robo calls to cell phone claiming to be Verizon, offering credit. Went online to check web address call provided and Google Chrome warned it was a phishing site. Seemed phony from start -- calls made to number to a second phone that was not that of Verizon account holder.

Event Reminder
ooh ooh mr. carta! mr. carta! I got it!!! you all remember that? horseshack? from welcome back carter? ANYWAY... it has something to do with USPS, fedex  smartpost, and amazon.
I ordered from amazon, fedex smartpost delivered it to usps and then they delivered it to me.

the thing is...amazon is the only one who had the google voice number these ppl had. I actually gave fedex tracking my cell and so usps should have had it also. However the shipper probably gave the gv number to usps because my call came exactly ONE MINUTE..before the time that my package tracker says it was delivered.  I never got the call because it was gv and not my cell. so there you have it. SOLVED....it is a number that usps has for you- or either fed ex. YOU MUST HAVE HAD A DELIVERY AROUND THIS TIME

thanks I know iknow.

I just received a call from 800-600-6358, telling me I would owe $391.XX on my next bill.  I had just upgraded my phone with Verizon and knew I wasn't quoted that price.  I called the store where I got it and she said it was a scam and that they keep shutting it down and coming up with a different #.  I didn't even listen to the entire msg. as it was giving me a website to evidently go to.  Fortunately, I had hung up b/4 I heard the entire msg. and she said, had I gone to that website it would've caused me lots of problems.  So, a word to the wise - be very careful!!!!!

I don't know what service you are on.
I my smartphone is through the "real" Verizon.
Look in your apps section and see if you have an app called "Call Control".
I just started using it, it catches the call and blocks the number these scammers are calling from and will do so with each change of their numbers, if you tell your "Call Control" to block all 1-800 numbers.
They maintain a list that you can review which number called from1-800 in case you do get toll free calls.
I personally don't give out this number to be getting toll free calls.

My new app on my Motorola Droid phone has "caught" that I had received yet another call from these scammers. Usually they call me twice around a 20 min time period, but I got just one call this morning.

I am on the "real" Verizon wireless service for my Droid. In the apps section there is an app entitled "Call Control" where you can block these calls. My friend was getting the scamming calls and she found the app. Since I don't give out my smartphone number to anyone but personal friends, there is no reason for me to be getting 1-800- _ _ _ _ calls. Through this "Call Control" app, my phone is set up to block all 800 numbers. No harrassing ring, but the Call Control will let you know they have caught one of thse calls and have added it to the numbers it has caught and blocked.

I highly recommend you looking into the "Call Control" in your phone's app section.
It has reduced the stress of getting these seemingly almost daily calls from different numbers by having your phone ring. Finally...a somewhat reasonable solution to these calls until Verizon tries to stop these people. Though good luck, my last phone numbers from these scammers came from India.

It is NOT the "real" Verizon!
These are scammers that keep changing the digits around so as not to be blocked.
Don't be so naive to assume this is the company Verizon. These scammers are also putting out text messages with a "Verizon-like" address except if you look closely their are 2 or 3 letters added in the hyperlink. Click on the hyper link in your thinking it's the real Verizon and your computer will be scrubbed from all your identify linked to it and all your contacts.
Instead of being snarky, try keeping an informed heads up when it comes to these calls and texts so all your identity stays safely secured.

Debt Collector
yes, agreed, deceptive and unfair business practices, but think it's more from the internal external debt collector call center network say in this case Verizon, Afni, Midland, Allied Interstate, and others.

We got a call last night & we do have Verizon.
It must be from a hacker inside the Tel Co industry who knows how to use this 800 number as a call back number, The Tel Co's issue these 800 numbers to paying customers only. So someone has figured out away around that. I think Verizon and the other cellular companies had better start doing a better job of making their networks Hacker proof..
