I am not sure if this is the correct place to put it, since I got a different number. But my experience is very similar. I made a call upon my arrival in London Heathrow airport (29th) using the public payphone with my US credit card. Later I made two more calls (all about the same length, 2-3 mins) in the centre of London using public payphone. The initial charge on each transcation was 8.7 dollors. I know this is not a lot compared to charged others had, but they are still incorrect. These charges initially showed in temporary charged in my credit report and when they were actually billed, the amounts seemed right for the first two: 3.07 & 2.72 dollors respectively. But the third transaction was 6.81 dollars (which was totally unbelieveable). Few days later, another charge of 0.95 dollars was added as "Call from Val Fee 800-282-6120" (the same number applied to all transcation charges) I am not sure if those scam company just changed their number or what.

I made 3 calls from the airport in Mexico city to the USA using my debit and credit cards. Long story short, I got charged  $40 for each call, $120 total. I called the 1800 number on my card statement and some guy named James Kent answer without giving a company name. After complaining about the horrible ripoff, he refunded me $47.85 to my account, which was better than nothing since at that point I was pretty much at loss.

DO NOT USE THESE PAYPHONES IN THE AIRPORT! or any of those to where you have to insert your credit card rather than a calling card. ALSO, you should ask the operator what the rates are BEFORE giving them your info.

Good luck to all and I'm sorry for those who've lost more money thru this Sons of Bicthes!

I called my wife from a phone booth in Frankfurt, Germany Airport and got reaped off over $40 for a call that lasted less than a minute. These guys are criminals. Where on earth will someone pay over $40 a minute for a call. Even if one makes a call to the moon. I feel like strangling someone.

I made a quick call from Berlin airport to Paris, just to let them know that I will be delayed. I was surprised to see a $69 charge to my credit card. I would have expected something in the $5 to $7 range. They are definately taking advantage of people. I just like to know what I can do about it. Is there any local office in Canada or USA I can call to at least try to get my money back?

I usually never comment on anything like this, but I felt this was worth sharing! My husband was on a four day journey home from fighting for our country in Afghanistan. He arrived safely in Germany, was out of phone card minutes and called me. We were luckily called by our bank because it triggered an alert on our account, but still are out the money. What a disgrace!

We got charged $41.91 for a 30 second call from Aruba to US. They are charging $14.99 connection fee, then $5 a minute and the minimum call charged is five minutes even if you talk for 30 seconds, which was in our case. What a bunch of scumbags!!!

Same thing here. We have called the credit card company who called the 800 number - they are charging $14.99 connection fee, then $5 a minute and the minimum call charged is five minutes even if you talk for 30 seconds, which was in our case. $42 for a 30 second call, what a bunch scumbags!!! AVOID USING ANY PHONES THAT SAY "CALL HOME WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD" anywhere on the islands especially in Aruba!!!

I experienced the same thing ($150 for 2 short calls) - after looking around the internet and calling my credit card company, this is apparently a common occurrence.   I found this website and it seems like a formal place where a complaint can be filed (ripoff.com)- otherwise try to make your credit card company realize that they must do something about this, especially if they're aware of this problem. It's just as wrong to watch your customers get robbed when you know it's happening.

Remember, dial 0 on the payphone to find out the rates before calling so you know what you're getting yourself into - I learned this a few days too late.

Sucks to be cheaped out like this, but we all learned something!

I made a telephone call from the Sapphire Beach Resort and Club in St. Martin (Dutch side).  When I dialed from the room the recorded message said it was $4.00 a minute.  I got charged $41.91.  I called the credit card company (Bank of America) they would not help me.  I call the 800-608-0575 Satelite Company and they offered to give me a credit for $16.76 and my Bank said "take it".  I called the resort and they would not affer any assistance to let me hear the message again.  THIS IS NOT RIGHT.  WE ARE BEING RIPPED OFF AND NO ONE WILL HELP US.  The Satelite Customer Service is located in California - you would think someone would help us stop this unethical business practise.  THE RATES WERE NOT PUBLISHED!  How do we we get proof to dispute this charge?  Why doesn't Bank of America stop accepting these charges from this merchant.  They are unethical.
