This scam has been going on for years. Thank you to Patrico12345! The number he provided above (1-800-348-1495) got me through to a person. I was charged $84. for two magazines that I supposedly 'ordered' in 2008!! The charges on my cc both begin with " TWX*3U7HP8*" with name of the mag following. When I was told I would be credited for the magazines I had left in my subscriptions, I said that wasn't acceptable and asked to speak to the manager. The woman I had been speaking to came back on the phone within seconds--obviously spoke to no one--and said I would be credited for the full amount. So persist and you will likely be credited for the full year. What kills me is that I probably paid this amount for 3 years without realizing it. I think this is Time Warner. Lowlife robbers!

We also sent away for a World Points "reward" on our FIA credit card, but were billed $68.85. Additionally, the "rewards" turned out to be junk!
Scott-Iowa 2011-06-06 20:58:09 Unknown
# now listed in NY. Ad included in Bank of America cc bill as a "reward" credits. $88.85 rip off. Some reward.

got a charge of $30.01 apparently for a flashlight and leather wallet. called 1-800-348-1495 and pressed *00 and was able to talk to a guy named Scott. Since the item was shipped (but I haven't received it), he can't do anything until I return the item. the offer was apparently through US Bank. have to wait to get the items then send everything back for a refund. will update.

Just got the same issue. I kept receiving these deceptive offers in the mail which I just thrashed. One day just said what the hell, I'll get some of this stuff. It had TIME logo plastered all over it, so looked the part. I read the offer (obviously not thoroughly enough) and it seemed legit. Anyway, $166 in the hole for this crap now. In my opinion Time are guilty by association. I'm canceling the subscription and writing to them. They pass themselves off as a respectable journal but are ok to be associated with these rip off merchants? I'll be filing a claim against this charge (deceptive/misleading practice) The more people that do it, the better. It may take a half hour of time, but worth it to get rid of companies like these. The company is Synapse Group Incorporated....and they are making money through deception. Hope they sleep well!!!
Shame on Time Magazine 2009-11-18 19:16:25 Unknown
Going through Chase Bank right now to file a fraud claim against this charge (deceptive/misleading practice) - Same story as "Ridiculous" above - My wife got a "thank you" letter in the mail with Time Magazine's name on it. 800 number claims that merchandise has shipped. - Bank is disputing charges and canceling my cards - If this actually is affiliated with Time Magazine I am canceling my account with them!

Have to go in where?
wtf?? 2009-11-15 03:57:26 Unknown
I just found this transaction on my CC statement for almost $180. I immediately called the fraud hotline at BoA and they closed my CC account and will be opening up a new one. Hopefully I won't have to deal with this company anymore.
Ridiculous 2009-11-14 18:55:04 Unknown
I believe these charges occurred through a voucher/certificate indicating free merchandise up to a certain value. These vouchers/certificates come in connection with magazine subscriptions. I myself was charged $65 for a voucher I received from my Time magazine that said I could get up to $65 of free merchandise. I called the 1-800 # and pressed 00 to speak to somebody. The agent on the line said I could not cancel the order because it was marked as shipped already but is still going to take 6-8 weeks for delivery. Only then can I get a refund when I return the items in which I have to pay for shipping. The voucher was very deceiving, tricking me into believing the items were free. Now I have to wait almost 2 months for the items to come in and still pay out of my own pocket to ship the items back to this stupid scam of a company!

Checked my balance this morning and saw a purchase made from TWX thank you gifts for 123 dollars. I have NEVER heard of this place and NEVER gave my card number out. I am furious. The purchase was still pending so I canceled my account and have to go in Tuesday to dispute the charges.
Mike 2009-11-14 15:41:34 Unknown
My wife fell for the same scam for over $150. Unfortunately, once you notice the charge, it is too late. The *00 did work, however the operator informed me that the order had already shipped and and we had to return it to get our money back. The free gift form shipped from my wife's People Magazine Account and we assumed it was legit. We were wrong. Beware of TWX and "free gifts." We'll see how the return process goes.
pissed off 2009-10-26 17:22:14 Unknown
I was scammed for $159.00 because the brochure mislead me into thinking the gifts were free. Called to cancel and was told I have to return all the gifts once I received them but they have 6 weeks to send them to me. This is crap!
kjensen 2009-09-12 23:20:06 Unknown
I was duped also into thinking that rewards were FREE. Got billed for over $100 so far, and a couple of items not yet received. Only the tiny print on the back of the Rewards form mentions charges. What a scam. And...you cannot talk to a real human being.

Fraud!
Was charged $147. No idea who they are. No idea how they got my card #. Never received any items. Found 2 previous charges for $5.97 for magazines from the same company.
Contested the charges with the bank & canceled that card #!!
Don't understand why this place isn't shut down! Do we live in Nigeria?
CALL YOUR BANK NOW! Check for previous charges from "TWX"

I got a $202.76 charge on my credit card under the vendor name..'TWX Thank You Gifts' or something like that. It was with my Chase Credit card. I caught it while it was still pending and immediately called Chase to cancel whatever that was, and closed my account. It's ridiculous how many fraud/scam schemes are out there!

I actually bought a necklace from this company but now it's not as good as advertized. 1-800-615-3180 provded return instructions but i couldn't find a live agent.
On Sunday I called 1-800-348-1495, and tried *00 as early as possible. Within a minute i found a live agent. He did answer my questions.
Now I feel this is perhaps a legitimate company. I hope they do refund me.
Patrico12345 2008-12-13 18:16:39 Unknown
People having trouble with this should call a number back that is just like the number above but different:
1-800-348-1495 and when prompted to speak or say something press *00 in order to talk to a customer representative. You may have to enter *00 a few times and they might ask you a three question survey before you can speak to someone.
I ended up getting through and was able to cancel the items I apparently ordered. I had to get the above number by going through their processing dept. who some guy there graciously told me how to get around the automated system.
Good Luck to anyone else! I hope they actually do cancel my items...

I got the same $78 charge, and it looks like a scam. When I tried calling them, I couldn't even speak to anyone.
Shame on these people.

Also got a TWX*?????*MERCHANDISE charge for $78.85 on my account
This is a supposed Gift service, which I mistook to mean "free" so I placed an order for 4 "gifts" and got charged. Reading over the detaisl I realized that it says "credit card" will be billed and that the "savings" they advertise are just savings you WOULD have saved on those items if you bought them elsewhere... TRICKY, no?
I'm hoping to return them for a full refund (says so in the Details section) and since this is tied to my Chase account I'm hoping it's legit and not a scam. (Though when I called that number they DID ask me for the whole credit card number, which smells like a scam to me...)
Will update again
