The man called telling me about a free alarm system with free installation. All I would have is a $33 monthly fee. He also said we had all sorts of free stuff coming too. I had a salesman come over the next day, drove up in a beat up old car and a young guy got out.Well he talked up a storm about a very basic system of a couple of doors and a motion detector. After he was done free turned into a $300 bill...if we went for it. I turned it down and the kid got huffy then left.
No free gifts for even listening to him like the guy on the phone said. This seems like a scam to sell us a cheap alarm system.

Pretty simple, called ADT sales and ran this scenario by them.  There are ADT resellers all over the country, what happens is they sell you in this case a GE Talking Alarm system w/2 doors and motion sensor for $33 monthly, and all the goodies mentioned and ADT provides the SERVICE.  It's not a scam, they are a telemarketing call center "The Appointment Center".  The guy I spoke with was professional and explained clearly what they're trying to do.  He repeated this is not a sales call, simply an appointment to see if their security system meets your security requirements.  

ADT salesperson told me the offer sounds legitimate, all of the prices sound right for this type of installation.  The only differences are the equipment is different than what ADT would install, and he admitted ADT charges $35.99 a month for the same setup.  He warned about "reading the fine print" if I choose to have the service installed because the length of some of these contracts are as long as 3 years.  Otherwise he said it sounds legit.

If you actually listen to the person calling, as I did, you would realize that all they want to do is set an appointment for a free demonstration to view the system. The woman I spoke with was very up front about the demonstration. She told me that IF I decided to take the system I would pay the monthly monitering and a one time $99 fee that would be rebated back. I went thru with it, and now have the system in my home protecting me and my family.

Thanks for your posts here. I received a similar call and had similar concerns to others about it sounding like a scam.  When I showed resistance, I got a very rude and threatening hard sell approach.  Won't deal with them even if all the free stuff they offered WAS legitimate.

Seriously it's called paying attention. If you listened to what the people exactly had to say instead being ignorant and just assuming telemarketers are bad people out to scam you, you wouldn't end up the situations that you are. I'm not saying all telemarketers are perfect, honest, and true, but at least hear the person out and if you aren't interested just hang up and let us move onto the next caller, your hurting the economy by forcing good hard working employees to waste their time on meaningless little complaints. This offer doesn't cost you anything at all, its a free demonstration for the latest home security system/

I strongly suggest before making a complaint you know what your talking about. if you people had only went threw with the appointments then you would have realized what it was about. And little do you know you will get the vacation package even if you don't get the system. ITS A FREE DEMO YOU FOOLS. Their is no harm in looking at something especially if you are thinking about getting an alarm, all they are trying to do is set appointments. Like they told you NO COST OR OBLIGATION!!! I received a call tonight from a private name but it showed the number as 978-441-1490 and the lady said that I won a $900 alarm system w/ all fees waived and I asked how much do I pay up front and she said no up front fees the demo is free and that it was promotion that they were doing and that they only had two slots open so of course I took one of the slots and she passed me onto her supervisor to confirm and was given 800-617-0068 as a confirmation number in case there were any problems.  Well I got off the phone and googled the number 978 number and couldn't find anything on that number then I googled the 800 number and all these reports showed up.  So I called the 800 number back and said I wanted to cancel and the lady asked why and I said b/c you guys are a scam!!  She said well I can give you our address, website and our business license, I told her that none of that s**t mattered b/c anybody can give phony info out so I told her she better not send anybody to my house or else...well then I asked her if they were w/ the BBB and she said she didn't know b/c she had only been there 2 months.  So I said you know what go ahead and give me your website and she gave me carolinaalarm.com so we hung up and she called back from a different number 978-446-0130 and the name showed up saying All, American Ad and she said Ms.... I said yes she said we are with the BBB b/c I was curious myself and we are accredited w/ them and I said you gave me a website for a company out of Winston Salem, NC and their alarm system is independently owned (remember the area codes are 978) the company out of Winston Salems area code is 336) she said right ma'am we are independently owned and we are in Mooresville, NC and I said but the website says Winston Salem she said no we are in Mooresville, I told her not to play stupid w/ me and that the info she was giving me was not matching up w/ the website and the number she is calling from is in Massachussetts she said Massachussetts and I said yes the area code on my phone showed up 978 she said 978 and I said yes you dumb B***H don't play stupid w/ me and I hung up on her. I then googled carolina alarm in Mooresville, NC and no such company came up in that area.  So I called the number back just to see what she would say and of course she answered the phone w/ a different greeting than the first call I made to them and she said appointment center of carolina alarm and I said is the All American Ad and she said no this is Carolina Alarm and I said well this number called my phone earlier and it showed up All American Ad and she said that was our appt center and they make all our appts for us and I said you just answered the phone appt center and she said no ma'am this isn't the appt center, I said you need to get your scamming skills in order b/c you are stupid!  so these people are SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I TOLD HER TO GET A REAL JOB AND THAT PEOPLE ARE HURTING BAD ENOUGH W/O PEOPLE LIKE THEM TRYING TO ROB THEM!

I got a very similar call saying that we would get a free alarm system with a $900 value, a free vacation, and a camera with 100 rolls of film. They claimed to be the leading distributor of GE and ADT alarms but they don't even have a web site. Very Sketchy. I almost set up the appointment for the free demo, but I am glad I didn't. I would not trust these people...

Got the same call saying it was ADT. Said because of the bad economy they were doing a free alarm installation and would demo it for us. Sounded weird, but made an appointment. Tried to call and cancel but I couldn't get through to the 800-617-0068 they gave me, so decided to google it and here it is. Maybe we'll just shut off the lights and pretend we're not home when they show up.

Just got a call from someone asking for my husband, like he knew my husband.  I asked if my husband called him and he said no.  I asked who he was and he said he was "Vince from ADT".  I knew my husband wanted (eventually) to get an alarm system, so I listened for a bit, but then he said "Is this his wife ..." and I said how do you know all this and he said we show you are the new owners at .... and he got the info from the registry of deeds.  He went on to say they are sponsoring a new program called secure america where we would get a FREE 2009 GE talking alarm system.. I half laughed and said "nothing is free" and he went on to say they will be in Ashland in the next 3 days and would like to schedule a FREE demonstration... so I said "Ok so the demo is free" and he seemed annoyed and said "No, the alarm system is free.... part of a homeland security .....".  Finally I asked him to give me his number and I'd talk to my husband.  He gave me (800) 617-0068 and said "So can we set up the free demo" and I again said I have to talk to my husband and he started to cut me off and I said "Listen ... I don't know who you are, you call me out of the blue about a "free" alarm system... I need to talk to my husband first" and he said "I just told you who I am"... well I hung up after that and called my husband.  He told me to look up the number on Google and there you have it

I received a call that was nearly identical to the described by Rjs.

In my case, however, the initial caller identified her company as "Vector Security".  I am a bit suspicious about this company; I asked the initial caller about whether or not her company had a website, but she said that she was new and did not know, but that the second person who would call to follow-up would be able to help me.

Anyhow, the second caller called to confirm my appointment.  Before the conversation ended, I tried to ask about the company website, but she appeared to have not heard me and hung up.

The first caller mentioned a free alarm system; in addition, I was promised a $100 gas card, and a free vacation getaway for listening to the presentation.  I agreed to the appointment, but felt very suspicious.

After finding this site and the previous comments, I feel as though I should call back and cancel.

Ah yes, I should also note:  The first caller gave me the following number as a callback: 1-800-681-3763, however, the second caller (who called to confirm the appointment) left me a different number 1-800-617-0068.

Thanks for setting up this site. Came in very HANDY. I wanted to make sure it was not some hobo off the streets but this is enough information to "STAY AWAY"!

i then called ADT and they gave me a this number to call to verify 18773236856 ADT verification,

and low an behold 1868584 alarms and protective devices Manchester NH 8025 s willow st, ACTIVE RESELLER.

So there you have it. and as far as the 99setup fee that is rebated, apparently resellers can charge what they want. so overall i say it's not a bad deal, there coming tomorrow for demo.
