I received a call from Mike Jenkins who said that they received a judgement for a check written in 2009.   I had made payments to the tune of 1500 dollars and then never heard back from them.   Now in 2014, they are calling and telling me that I owe them more money and that I never payed off the judgement.  He stated that their attorney had a stroke and they have to send their new attorney all the files so that they can finish collecting, however they can offer me a settlement now and they won't send my file to the new attorney.    However he never stated how much I owe, just that he was being very generous to offer a settlement.  

The 800 # is owned by what use to be a check guarantee company aka indepentent collection company.  They are hired mainly by Auto retailers and hotels to guarantee checks and credit card transactions.  The reason they do not leave a business name is that they represent hundreds of companies and once you have identified yourself, they can check to see where your debt originated from, but because they are the guarantors, the debt is now theirs to collect, because they have paid the company that hired them.  As for "how did they get my number" they buy the information from companies that sell, like Pizza Hut and have a vast skip tracing system, that also shows neighbor's phone numbers and addresses and sometimes can get more information from a neighbor.  They deal with a lot of fraud and if you feel they contacted you in error - it may be, talk with them, see if a check has bounced or credit card charge was not paid, or verify that your identity was not stolen.

Got a call from unknown I picked up, It was a Mr. Maritnez. He asked if I was Melissa I said yes, By the FDCPA they must verify that they have the right person on the phone otherwise it could be possible third party disclosure. Mr. Martinez said they but my account from Harley and said that want full balance I told them that I can work out arrangements. He then asked what kind and I told him then I got transferred over to a Mr. Ortega he said he was the attorney that handles the arrangements, he said that he wanted 68% of balance I told him I can't do that. I told him what I could do then he said he'll mark me down as a RTP. I told him I'm not refusing, that he is not willing to compromise. He then said he'll forward my info as a refusal and that I'll need to give up the bike to them. When I said that they are a collection agency and they are not allowed to threaten me by saying that they will take away something from me, I asked for the recording of the call so I can contact a lawyer about their harrassment. And for the fact that they discard not verify who I was, which is a violation of the FDCPA, He got scared and said he is terminating the call.
Carefully, read your letter, they are not an attorney's office it even says on  the letter that they are a collection agency. All agencies practice the FDCPA.

I wrote a post date to purchase a car and then the dealership still ran it after I told him to hold off on the date. Mr. Reyes told me that he worked for an attorney but gave no name.

I was never informed that this was an attemp to collect a debt just legal action would be taken.

Receieved a call from 800-627-7447. They said they were from Card Guard. and were tring to collect on a check I put a stop payment on for poor services. I tried looking up 'Card Guard" and could not find a company by that name. They threatred legal action if I didn't pay.

Jack Hart called me stating that he was collecting debt or something for a volvo company, and he didn't even get my name right. He said it was very important, but didn't bother to leave anything else besides this number 2X. Definitely an illegal call. You definitely make sure to state your name, the company you work, what the call is in regards to, as just a basis for a legal phone call, this guy failed at all stated terms.

"Jack, Jack Hart" called me on behalf of Card Gard regarding a disputed bill from Carlsbad Animal Hospital.  He told me he was an attorney and that he could add charges of $1053 to my bill if I did not pay immediately.  I believe this is illegal under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  He was threatening (also illegal) and what I would call "smart-assed".  I did some research and apparently if you send a "cease and desist" letter to the agency, they are legally obligated to stop all forms of communication with you.  My concern is my credit report.  I read that they can not report disputed charges to your credit report.  Is this true?

Jack Hart is a debt collector.  Collects on bad checks especially for car dealerships.

I'm getting calles from this place about a check I wrote, I've paid half and he is pressing me to pay the other half immediately.  Saying he can add charges to what I have left to pay is that legitimate and right?  I was looking up the number and came upon this website.  He wants me to pay the other half, but I have other responsibilities too, so I was going to pay 1/2 of the half I owe.

This number belongs to "CARD GARD" supposedly.  Not sure what kind of company but I got a fax at work from a "Jack Hart" attempting to obtain information on an employee.  Naturally I threw it away and warned the employee.

I'm pretty sure 800-627-7447 and 858-292-1399 are associated to a collections agency. I have one outstanding business debt from another state and they probably hired this company, which is in my local area, to collect. I've received two voicemails from Ron Sanders (Rod?) within one week.  I don't think these calls are illegal. They are just trying to collect on a debt.

This is a collection agency. He said he was from Car Guard Identified himself as Mike Reyes and said he was in the fraud department 1-800-627-7447 x 268. Said he worked for an attorney but never identifed the compnay name nor the location of the office.

I thought they (collectors ) had to identify the name of the company and a disclaimer. This is an attempt to collect a debt once they idenetify weither or not you are the correct person they are looking for . Never happened.

Ron Sanders just called me from a 'private' number on my cell.  He repeated his number twice and said to call 800-627-7447 x 241 and said he was from North County San Diego and also left 858-292-1399 x 241.  He repeated his name again and DID NOT LEAVE A COMPANY NAME OR WHAT HE WAS CALLING ABOUT.  I believe this is illegal.  I'm going to record the date and time with a voice recording on him every time he leaves illegal messages - then file a small claims court action.  It's 500.00 every illegal call.

I go a call from a private number. He left a VM saying he was Mike Jenkins and he was trying to reach my neighbor! How in the heck did he get my number? He asked me to leave a note on her door to call him at 800-624-7447 x 183. I happen to know my neighbor is in Notice of Default on her mortgage so this guy ia probably a mortgage reorg/short sale scammer.  When you call the number they say "Thank you for calling our corporate offices" and never mention the company name.

Received a call on my cell that said "Restricted" (I don't answer those calls).  They actually left a message and it was a man named Ron Sanders.  He said it was very important that he talked to me, left me this toll free number, along with his extension "241".  He repeated the number twice but didn't bother to mention the company.  I like to know who I'm calling so I searched for the number and didn't find a company name tied to it so I will not be calling them back.  If anyone does know who this is, please post it because they don't seem to have sense enough to say where the hell they're calling from.

I would have called the FBI and told them that your local police don't want to do anything about it.

Got an abusive msg on my machine with a garbled name. Called back and talked to JOE JACK. Now when you say Hi finally to mr. JOEJACK you must realize he only wants your last name but will tell you nothing of the company you are calling. I called back expecting another telephone operator but i got JOEJACK. So, I said I was going to call the FCC, AT&T the police...BBB, you got it I am calling everybody. So I had AT&T call him and JOEJACK told AT&T to tell me to call the police. So yeah, I did call the nonemergency line and was told just to ignore it. So JOEJACK should be ignored.
