just to update the ruse on 800-633-4227 some spammer are programming this into a computer program to show up as the number that called you. Number one if they called you tell them anything that comes to mind fake bank number, credit card number, anything you feel like saying including to kiss my *s* or stink this where the sun will not normally shine. If you get the call you are under no obligation to be truthful. What hurts most is letting them know in a short burst of words the reason they are doing this is they are a thief. now you can call 888-382-1222 which is the controller for medicare and have them place your number on the do not call list. After this any calls are from a spammer trying to get your information to steel your money. Remember all calls to you gives you permission to lie, lie lie. When you call you can be prosecuted for harassment. Unfortunately the FCC is controlled by our present administration and could care less as long as you pay half of your income to support the half that does not work. May you have a good weekend and a better day tomorrow, remember to support our troops. May God Bless you. LM

Phone number that shows on the caller ID is the correct one for Medicare.gov, however it appears to be a spoofed number, because the caller ID said DR OFFICE and Medicare would not use that name on the caller ID, Scam with a real spoofed Phone number

Not so sure it is legit. I suggest you call the marketplace or affordable health care government number and ask them if someone from their organization called you today. If not, the call was probably not legit.

This person called to respond to questions I asked about the Affordable Health Care Act. The person correctly replied with information that confirmed they were legitimate.

I actually work for a medicare call center and i was checking the number to see if anything came up. I was reading through some of the comments and i am a little concerned. To anyone out there who receives a call from this number, keep in mind medicare will not call you to ask about your bank information. Also, we typically don't make out bound calls unless you make some form of contact to us first. If you get an unsolicited call from this number, you can always call back immediately and report it, or you can contact the Federal Trade Commission and report it to them as well.

Debt Collector
One of three, or all 3 collection agencies, RPM, Allied Interstate, Oliphant is tapping my land line.  I received a call today at noon from Medicare that my voicemail took.  The message was that they would call back this afternoon or in the morning about documents I had mailed them on March 23, 2013.  I had written Medicare about an appeal. I called the Medicare number back and got a lady who looked at my file and said the call had been made to me at noon. That time matched my phone record. I left word to call back this afternoon or before tomorrow 11 a.m.  She said she noted the message on my file.  I know it was the correct Medicare number as it went thru all the answer messages upon answering.

Shortly after, my phone rang showing the Medicare number and I answered.  There was a pause and a woman asked for the first name only of my ex or son.  Since my son isn't old enough for Medicare, I told them my ex was deceased.  For how long she asked.  I told her a year and a half.  Do you have a son by the same name.  Yes, I told her. Is he there she asked.  No I said, what do you want him for?  It's a personal matter she said.  He's incarcerated I told her. For how long she asked.  I don't know I told her.  She hung up.

The collection agency spoofed the Medicare number to call me to get info about my son.  One or all have tapped my line.  I never answer 800 numbers without a name or creible message, and google them all and see the numbers belong to the above agencies.  I knew they werent looking for me as I pay all my bills timely and have excellent credit.

This action is illegal, so seniors BEWARE for yourselves and/or your children

It is definitely a SCAM as the true Medicare offices would not conduct such personal 'inquiries' over the phone in that manner. This article might help:

Well---- this is interesting! Back in November of 2011.
The phone rings and I reallly can't remember if the caller ID showed Medicare or not.
Yet it showed this number on caller ID.
A young lady thought she was speaking to my father. She asked,"Do you still bank at so-and-so?"
"I need bank account number-now get your checkbook and give me the number."
"It's for Medicare" "For Medical"
NO info was given. But what was really scary; she knew the partial name of the bank !
That gave me goosebumps and the hair stood up on the back of my neck.
I don't know how they do it,but a False phone number can showup on your caller ID.

My father was a victim of scams (mail/phone) for too many years.(
We saw magazines pour in by the dozens, books and dvds pile up.
Mail cluttered the home. He was robbed of thousands of dollars
and more importantly DIGNITY.
He was diagnoised with DEMENTIA at the age of 80 +.
Long story short- take the time to find a GOOD LAWYER !
We were blessed that our father's cognition was good enough
that he actually seeked a lawyer for Living Trust and power of attorney.

Yea, they have become very aggressive lately with their phone calls and junk mail ads as a family member is about to become Medicare-eligible. We just block them and fill up the shredder.

Could be what's known as "pretexting", where corrupt companies post as another, legit one and posts a business name different than the one on the Caller I. D. (which is illegal), like ones from corrupt collector law firm and another one trying to pass themselves off as "People's PC" that I read about in the last year.

But yeah, got the same thing here, they called, no message left.
