To everybody saying this is Target Check Services - IT'S NOT! I contacted Target and asked them what this is about (called Target CORPORATE not this number) and they said that they looked into the "suspicious phone call", and can confirm it didn?t come from Target. They said they don?t send this type of phone call or share our information with companies who do. Also said they are investigating the issue and will forward my information to our Target Brands team so they may research further into the situation.

I'm assuming it's people who purchased information after the data breach.

If you get a letter from Target Check Services wanting you to pay a fee for an item that "bounced", beware of what happened to me. I am a frequent Target shopper. When I heard what happened with the data breach, I called my bank to open a new checking account and transferred my funds to the new account so I wouldn't be a victim of getting my funds wiped out. I also closed the existing debit card, ordered a new one to go with the new checking account. Also, kept calling Target to close my red card but could not get through. Meanwhile, a target transaction hit the old account and "bounced". I thought my bank would put valid outstanding items through to the new account but this did not happen so I transferred funds back to the old account, just enough for any outstanding items I had.
Meanwhile, a few weeks later I get the letter from Target saying I owe them 25.00 for the bounced check fee, even though they got the original transactions funds so I called them to explain the circumstances expecting them to waive the 25.00 fee of course. The jerk on the phone who claimed he was an Account Manager said he would not waive it. I was shocked! Are you kidding me?  I went through all these inconvenient hoops, due to no fault of my own to be proactive and you will not waive the stupid fee resulting?  I was livid!  A few days later I called the Target Hotline to complain about this and because I had the outstanding "debt" I was transferred automatically to Target Check Services!  Luckily the woman that answered understood me and waived the fee and apologized for the new guy that obviously took his new collecting job too seriously. I hope others don't have to deal with this.

I continue to receive calls from 800-635-4713 saying they are Target.  When I return the call it is an automated voice saying they want a claim number or ask me to put in my checking account number.   First, they ask for my maiden name which I haven't used on a check since 1985.   I don't write checks, I would have used my debit card or my AmEx to purchase anything.   I have contacted Target asking them to please check into this...to no avail.     I know I have not written a check for insufficient funds to anyone, much less Target.    I receive these calls daily.   Once I answered and a live person was on the phone.   I asked them to quit calling, but that hasn't stopped them.  Would like to report them but don't know next steps.

This number is a scam.  Don't give them any information I took there letter to my bank and they told me that there were no checks that even bounced.  Not only that I didn't write any checks and when they called they told me I wrote a check in South Carolina.  Which is impossible because I've never been East of California and I don't have any checks to write.  Then when I asked what bank account she stumbled and said USAA I laughed because I don't have USAA.  I repeat this is a SCAM.  Even funnier my bank called them and when they asked for their information they hung up.

If this is indeed Target calling me about a bad check I know exactly what it is for and will not give them anything. I had a Red Card and when I switched banks and switched my info online I used it and got a call saying it didn't go through. I called the number they asked and apparently my info did not update. The guy changed it to my correct information and I paid the silly fee which sucks because all I bought was a soda. Anyway, 2 weeks ago I went to use it again and before I went to Target I called the number on the back of the card and they verified what account it was connected to and it is my current information. If they are telling me it didn't go through, and I most certainly had the money in my bank account, I'm not paying anything. If the man changed my info and I called before going to the store to verify it was correct, there is zero reason for it not go through.

Target has a "Red Card" they say it is a debt card, but it really is not. It is a check card. It takes 2-3 days to process a charge with a Target "debt" card, because it is run as a check.
So even if your bank account does not have the funds, the Red card will go through, like writing a check.
So if you ,buy a soda, it may cost you $30...
I myself have been dinged by this several times, before catching on.

The first time I was called from this number it was a hang up call. The next time, an automated voice told me that "this message is for_____. If you are not this person delete this message (I had answered the call)" & if I was this person to call 800-635-4713 and that it was the Target collection department.
I don't owe Target any money.

This number is used for Target RedCard which bounces also.  I totally don't understand this, I think it's a scam - it is a Target DEBIT card, which means the computer verifies right then that the funds are available.  But Target has it set up that the money isn't debited for up to a WEEK!  So, I've learned to watch it very carefully.  But had 1 instance where my bank took an automatic payment out twice, so the Redcard bounced, a WEEK AFTER I used it.  I didn't know the double deduction had happened the day before, my bank has credited the overdraft charges, but Target still wants their $30 & is calling incessantly!!  I'll pay it when I get the money, I'm a single widowed mom, down a job & living really tight right now, so it's going to be a little while.
However, I'm NEVER using their RedCard again!  There's no reason it takes a week to clear the bank, it's a DEBIT card - I think they have it set up that way just to collect extra from their customers.  I'm very upset about this poor business practice.

I finally saved them to my contacts under "idiots" and assigned them their own annoying ring tone so I know not to answer it when they call. The jerks.

I work at Target too and they didn't know the number at mine either. I noticed that if I call the number on the back of my red card after it says please wait while we transfer you to a team member it asks the exact same questions as if you call the number they leave you with.  I know I over drew and they knew the exact amount so it's a real number.  I think it is just a short cut which is why the stores don't have it.

I got a phone call from this number Saturday morning.  I did not answer it but googled the number and found it was for target NFS charges. I thought OMG someone has got ahold of my check book. I don't typically write checks there. When I called she wanted the control number or my checking account number.  Which I did not have a control number and I would not give them my account number.   I did give her my phone number. She told me my check had bounced. She gave me the check number then I could tell what account it came from and I said every check I have written has cleared my account.  She said it had to be reprosessed    I said ma'am not out of that account.  You are mistaken but I will call the bank and see if something is wrong and call you back.  When the Saturday branch open I called and they said Ms. Sheila at no point has this account been overdrawn.  If they have any questions have them contact the bank directly.  She also advise me to contact target manager locally.   I did that this morning. He was really no help but told me not worry about it and not call them back it maybe a scam. But he did say they have a third party collection for NFS.  With that being said I felt I needed to call back and ask them to contact my bank to see that there was an error on targets part.  I talked to the lady and told her what the bank said and asked her to contact them directly and that I did call the Target Manager.  I said the Target system must have had a glitch at the time. She said no your bank must have. Then she asked for me to give my address and I said you tell me. She then asked for my phone number and then said this is the number to robo call you and I said no ma'am. We are done here right?   She said she will make note on the file and hung up.   I AM NERVOUS ABOUT SHOPPING AT TARGET NOW.  I have to finish my Christmas shopping but if they can just do this without cause that is just scary especially when they received their money.  I am part owner in 3 businesses and I have never treated my customers like this.   I don't know where to go from here.  Please give me suggestions

Yes this is Target returned check department, but what I can add to this information is that they deal not only with "regular" checks, but also charges linked to their debit card. I changed my bank account, but I still had the same debit card. Unfortunately, I forgot that they don't use your bank's debit card for their Target Debit card; they use your your account number along with your bank's routing number. After speaking with the rep, I now realize/remember that when I completed their form they wouldn't accept my bank's debit card number, only my account number. While it was totally my fault, they were nice enough to reduce the fee by half, from $25 down to $12.50, as a one time courtesy. Live and learn. I now have written, directly on my checkbook cover, the companies that I have ACH (Automatic Clearing House) charges (like Target) and direct debits like my car insurance. I hope this helps someone out.

They said I owed them $25 for a returned item fee but they took $67.78 out of my account.  The amount of my original transaction (which cleared my bank) plus the $25 and late fees.  I found this out on a Saturday.  Monday I am going to report them
