This is a scam. They leave a voicemail masquerading as AT&T and asking to call them back about a billing issue. When calling back they say that a call you placed was somehow dropped to AT&T and they needed to know the address where they should send the bill to. I'm assuming that if you provide the address, they send send you a fake bill for you to pay.

I had my carrier call the ATT person and that person questioned a PIC? setting on my account with my carrier. My carrier corrected the problem on their end.  ie not a scam, but not your billing responsibility either.  I also refused to give billing info to them, as you should. They have the ability to block the call until your carrier figures the problem out.

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!!! I Call Bullsh*t!! Got a call at my place of business from this number a few minutes ago. I work for a company that sells business phone systems and phone services. They tried to give me the same line of crap as everyone else. So I put them on hold and checked with my tech team to see if a call ever came into or went out of our system and the firm answer was NO! Do not give these people ANY information. Tell them to f*ck off, drop dead, go to hell or what ever you feel like telling the scum who make these b.s. calls to hard working people to try and steal their money!

For what it is worth, I got one of these robo calls from 800-662-1887, saying that my local landline (which is on the Verizon network) had placed calls on AT&T network without an account and was therefore restricted and to please call back.  I then went to AT&T's website and called their local customer service (AT&T Local Customer Care 1-800-288-2747) who said this is actually legit since they saw a small bill on my "non-account" and forwarded me to AT&T payments (AT&T Payments for Past Due Bills 1-800-532-7486) to avoid having it go to collections.  They confirmed that I had actually placed 1 call, through a Captioning Service (for my hard of hearing mother's new CapTel service), before I actually registered appropriately.  So, I'm getting a bill for $0.41 in the mail from AT&T.

Long story short, this turned out to be a legit call for me.  Not saying this will always be the case, however.  Be safe and call back through published AT&T care lines.

I found an old ATT calling card.  I have not had ATT home service for the past 16 years.  Placed a test call to a local number just to see if the card would work, and this is for their billing agent to send a bill out.  I will re-post once bill is obtained to see if it is exorbitant.

I received several phone calls from 800-662-1887, supposedly AT&T Network.  They said certain long distance calls I had made were on their network and they needed personal information.  I told them my LD service is through Frontier Communications, who I pay for unlimited LD service and they should take it up with my provider.  These people knew several of the places I had placed LD calls to.  I called my phone carrier and they said it had to be a scam.  That these people couldn't affect my LD service and to not give any information.  Last night, I tried several times to call a friend in Virginia and the call was intercepted and recording indicated I could not place call unless I provided them with info.  Since the AT&T center was closed, the recorded suggested I use a prepaid phone card.  WHAT THE HELL?

I actually reported this number to our state attorney's Office as a request from our phone carrier, who by the way says that this is a scam and anyone who says differently is either running the scam or in on it someway, because our carrier checked to make sure we did not use AT& T and we did not so this is totally a scam.  Do not call this number, report it to your State Attorney's office as we have done, hopefully they will find these people and prosecute them.

We just received a call from 800-662-1887 and to make a long story short, they are scammers.  We do not use At&T for anything, so we called our telephone carrier and they checked everything out for us and they are not happy that this is happening.  We gave them all the information on this scammer that we had and they are suggesting we turn this over to our state's Attorney General's office.  We also contacted AT& T with this informatiion on this scam.  So our advice is to call your phone carrier with the number and any information you have on this situation.  Good Luck, but this is not AT&T at all and anyone who says it is just might be in on this scam.  Beware and warned.

i received a call from the same number asking for an address and saying they were trying to collect on a collect call.  i called AT&T - used the number on the main website - went through a million menu-options to get to a real person.  they tracked it for me and said it was a legitimate AT&T number. :\  it still didn't sound very professional or legitimate.

I caught the same treatment from a Miss Brown. She had Identified a hearing assist captel type call to a deaf person. She said the call lasted 14 minutes and they, ATT, needed my address to bill some untold amount to....or else....or else they would never route another ATT call to my Vonage phone! LMfAO! I even called Bob Christmas and got a recorder for Wancom.'Guess they can W**k-on!

If I got a call that claimed to be from a specific company, and I doubted the legitimacy, I wouldnt be googling that number looking for comments from every paranoid yoohoo on the world wide web groaning about scams.

Just call the headquarters of the company in question-AT&T & ask for a manager and get them to tell you whether or not the call is legit. AT&T is an easy company to verify calls from. Just call 8002882020, their Customer Service line, and ask to escallate to a manager and see for yourself. It isnt rocket science. 8006621887 is the call center that handles unguidable usage for AT&T, the Account Verification Center (calls made by users who are not AT&T customers, yet their call has routed over the AT&T network-either because an operator routed the call that way, or the users normal long distance carrier's network is experiencing an outage, or the user dialed 1800callatt before the number)
Why should AT&T provide free long distance calls to people who are not their customers? Anyone who provides a service expects to be paid. AT&T has an open network because the federal government requires them to. They are the only carrier who has an open network, and will allow your call to complete if your carrier is experiencing network outages. Dont like it? Use your cell phone, or just dont place calls expecting them to be free.

When a person calls a long distance # and prefaces that number with 1800CALLATT, or often times when placing an operator assisted call, or when a person has not chosen a long distance carrier, or they have-but their carrier is experiencing network outage, AT&T having an "open network" allows these calls to route over their network. When a call routes over their network, AT&T as would any phone company, or person in business to make money, expects the caller to pay for their call. LD Calls are not free.  Since phone companies will no longer bill for one another, AT&T must contact the person who accepted charges for the call-in the case of collect calls, or the person at the number where the call originated, and ask for name and address to send a statement for the calls that came over their network.

After a call or several calls have gone through, the system will block further calls from routing over AT&Ts network until billing information can be obtained. If the person gives the info to bill for that call, the block is removed, and in the future-should the need arise-further calls can be allowed over the AT&T network. Should the person choose not to give their name & address to bill for the call, the block over AT&Ts network remains. The block ONLY blocks calls over AT&Ts network. It DOES NOT block you from being able to make ld calls on your own chosen LD network. AT&T has every right to block calls routing over their network that people who are not their customers have made, and have refused to pay for. These types of calls are called "unguidable usage", meaning the system does not have a way of billing for the call unless the person accepting the call or placing the call decides to pay for it. Otherwise systems will place block preventing further free usage of a network. Its always wise to be alert for scams. They are certainly out there. But just because someone posts something online saying it is a scam, does not make something a scam. 8006621887 is a legitimate number of the Account Verification Call Center which takes these calls. If you doubt this, contact AT&T Customer Care at 8002882020 & ask to escallate your concerns with Executive Complaints Dept. and find out for yourself. AT&T is a very very large compay, and the low level reps can certainly pass on misleading information. Ask for a manager.

Got a call from this guy claiming that I made a phone call to the bronx and it was transferred through to at&t or something.. I asked him what does "transferred through" to At&t mean? He simply stated that when I made the call it was once again transferred through to at&t and yada yada... his broken english was so bad and his dialect so lousy that any idiot could tell he didn't work for at&t... I called the number back and the lady stated the same thing yet couldn't explain why considering I don't have at&t why I was charged by them.  She simply got huffy and puffy and couldn't answer any legitimate questions... I said they need to come up with a better scam.. losers***

800.662.1887 - My mother received calls from this number (she did not answer and they left no voicemails). I called it and it was AT&T (yes, it really is).  Their issue: a call made from my mother's phone on 6/21/12 was inadvertently routed by Comcast over AT&T's network (she has unlimited long distance through Comcast). After lengthy discussions with both Comcast & AT&T, I filed an Federal Communication Commission complaint. The reason: I think the big boys at both companies need to work out their own problems without using customers as pawns. Today I received a call from the AT&T Office of the president regarding the FCC complaint.  We both understood what the other person was saying, but remain in disagreement as to why the consumer is involved.  My mother will probably receive a bill from AT&T, and when it arrives I may opt to bring it to the attention of the Problem Solvers at one of the local Seattle TV stations.  I think some people actually pay these bills, especially the elderly.  Regardless of the amount of the bill that is to come, I plan to stand my ground in a respectful and businesslike manner. The long distance carriers need to resolve these problems among themselves; it's as simple as that.

I've been getting robo calls from 800-662-1887 claiming to be with AT & T and telling me to call immediately to take care of an issue. Like many, I am a Comcast customer, not AT & T. So, this seemed phishy to me.
I did not call the number and when I did answer the phone, I did not press any buttons on my phone. I just hung up. I personally contacted AT & T customer service 800-222-0300. Spoke to "George" at an offshore help center, who was not helpful until I insisted I needed to talk to someone with AT & T because I believe I may be an victim of identity theft. He gave me the AT & T ID Fraud Dept. 800-337-5373, where I argued with Jose. I told him my story (similar to other posts) and gave him the phone # that has been robo calling me. He put me on hold. Came back on the line and told me the # was an AT & T official # because he called it and it said it was AT & T. Really, isn't that what the scammers want you to believe. I told Jose that the 800 # is not listed on the official AT & T website. How could it be official? My mind went crazy - have the scammers infiltrated the AT & T fraud dept? Unlikely, but possible. I told Jose I wanted to speak with a manager in the fraud dept. He said he was the only one in the fraud dept. Really? He proceeded to insist the # was official and I should just stop arguing with me, believe him over the internet since he works for AT & T, and call the # to take care of the issue. Uh! I said no thanks, hung up. I then contacted Comcast (no help) and the WA state Attorney Generals Office. They said the issue sounds like a definite phishing scam, but they did not have  jurisdiction to do anything about it. Suggestion: screen calls, do not respond to any unknown phone numbers, just ignore the numbers and wait out the situation. If it sounds odd, listen to your intuition, because it is probably a phishing scam.

Renee is liar. I received this call too. They identified themselves as AT & T and they tried to obtain my name and address for some kind of billing for a call from my phone. This is so bogus as I have documented phone records from my provider and it ain't AT & T. I called AT & T Customer Service at 888-387-6270 and they never heard of such a thing and said it appears to be a hoax. When financial times get tough the scammers all crawl out of the woodwork looking for their marks.

This is a scam and most likely the caller ID is being spoofed.  Do you really think scammers would actually use their real number on the caller ID? Do not call the company associated with the phone number, they have nothing to do with it.

After calling them out on their scam, they still call my number. They never give up. If they call you, have fun with them. Keep them on the line.
