Our company received a call from this number this afternoon.  The woman identified herself as calling from Verizon Wireless, asking to speak with the boss, by name.  As she correctly identified that his name was the one on our relatively new wireless contract with them, I believe the call to be legit.  She said she wanted to speak with him about corporate discounts we might be eligible for but are not yet receiving.  I told her she would have to send something in writing because we don't do transactions over the phone.  She said they don't send anything in writing (a recent trend I've noticed) but they could send something via email.  I declined, explaining the boss doesn't have email.  She then suggested that he could go to his nearest Verizon Wireless store and inquire about the corporate discounts.  She was pleasant the entire time and nothing about the call smelled suspicious.  Of course, I have a strong suspicion that in order to get the extra so-called corporate discounts we would be required to upgrade our plans to something bigger and more expensive first, on the theory that, if you spend more, you'll get a bigger discount.  Of course, you're still spending more...  lol

This number is from Verizon. I've gotten the call regarding my landline (which I got rid off a couple of years ago) and for my now wireless service.  I confirmed this at the Verizon center in person.

And Jack?  Please be aware that the Do Not Call list has some companies which are exempt from the list so it isn't a scam.  "Calls Not Covered By Do Not Call:  You may still get calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship. (A company may call you for up to 18 months after you buy something, or for three months after you inquire about something or submit an application.) or calls from companies you?ve given permission to call you." (http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0052-sto ... lls_Not_Covered)

If you used to have a Verizon account, you gave them permission when you first opened that account to call you. The only way to stop those calls after you stopped their services is to tell them to remove your number from their system.

I just got a call from this number saying they wanted to talk to me about my State of NY employee discount.  Actually, I DO get a NYS discount from the school district I work for - so THAT'S true - but why do they need to speak to me?  I'm going to contact Verizon thru their website to see if this call was in fact a legit call to a customer or a scam.

I never had VZ wireless, and I got rid of VZ landline years ago, and I doubt a big, well-known business like VZ is violating the DNC list. My strong suspicion is that this is a scam, and either they are falsely claiming to be VZ or some of the previous posts were from their accomplices trying to fool us into thinking this is legit.

Remember, telemarketing scum are posting on these anti-telemarketing web sites regularly. The best policy is simply: do not answer calls unless you know who they're from.

I find that hard to believe. I've been getting calls from this number, and I've never been a Verizon Wireless customer, and I got rid of my Verizon wireless more than 18 months ago, so according to the Do-Not-Call List law, they cannot legally call me.

Are you telling me a well-known business is violating the Do-Not-Call List law, or is this a scam and you are one of the accomplices?

People bother to come to this web site to complain (or they work for telemarketers). So you searched out this web site just to complement Verizon on a telemarketing call? When did you get released from prison?

rec'd 4/4/12 @ 11:47 a.m.  I answered and was immediately disconnected.  I am on DO NOT CALL LISTS.  Most annoying.  How can  block these nuisance calls?

The message I received was from a raspy female voice informing me to contact them concerning an important message regarding my 'Employee Discount."

1.  I don't have an employee discount.

2.  I did not disclose to them that I have no such discount when I returned the call out of curiosity.  Had
an inkling that this was a phishing technique.

3.  They informed me that my MILITARY DISCOUNT was at risk, and they needed to verify information
such as my account number, phone number, zip code.  When I asked them that if they tell  me
the last few numbers for each of this bit of information, they informed me that because I called them
back, they could see that my information was fine, and that my MILITARY DISCOUNT was still
active.  (PS:  I'm not in the military!)

4.  This, dear readers, is the portrait of a scam.  Do not be fooled.

I received a phone call from this number and the first 14 seconds a man was trying to tell me that he needs to discuss the discounts i am receiving through the state of NY, then he stopped and kinda sighed maybe he realized that my company is in MD and that we don't get discounts through the state of NY, then the next 20 seconds he goes in a different direction telling me i need to talk to him about one of our suspended lines that is about to expire and what options we have, only problem is out of the 50 lines we have, ZERO are suspended and all are active, then he left me this number 1-800-669-4642 to call him back which i am not even sure if it is a verizon number.

My office phone rang with this number a short while ago. My plan with Verizon ran out over two years ago and they have long since given up on trying to sell me another plan. Last time they got through to me, they tried to sell me a data plan and I told them I was all ready to sign up for the Verizon Select plan (which I knew had just been discontinued as part of their price "cut" earlier this year which was actually a huge price increase). The salesperson told me about their new exciting plan upon which I reacted with horror when I pointed out it cost more than double what their old plan cost. That put a stop to their calls.

Anyway, what's interesting about this call is that it came in just a couple hours after I went through my employer's link to the ATT site (all the major carriers have discount deals with my employer) and shopped for and priced an iPhone. Coincidence?

Answered my cell because I googled/found this site while it was ringing; I am a customer so had no problem answering.  They were looking to review my account with me, likely to try to upsell me.  But the guy was very low pressure and agreed that my current plan is working for me.  He asked if I had any questions and told me to have a nice day when I said I didn't.

This call was from Verizon wireless congratulating me on a recent purchase of a blackberry and offered a phone number and web site if I had any question about it's features. It was a pre-recorder message.
