Same here it's for a payday loan. I didn't answer because the call was private but a guy name Dan Walker (Heavy middle-eastern accent) stated for me to call him back at 800-670-2137. He told me if I didn't call back before the end of the day "Not even God in Heaven" can help me!

The heavy "Indian accented people" called me stating is "Mascot Financial" out of Sacramento, CA.  Apparently these are small enough to fit in a mail box at "Mail Boxes Etc" as was the address they provided.  Whatch out as these people are ruthless.  Never pay them one red cent!  They are not legit.  Every tactic they use break the FTC laws.  Report them!  I am going to do so!

I too am getting these calls. Claiming I owe $650.00 from a payday loan I took in 2004. I explained to them that I never took a loan and to send me proof. They said then cant send me proof until I make a promise to pay something up front first. He said send me a $100.00. I told him to go to hell and hung up. They called back 24 times at my work. Each time a co-worker told them I had left for a day and "Jolen" stated " I know she is there you b$5tch." Now this is my WORK. I ended up answering the phone to stop the insanity and gave him my cell # just to get him to stop calling my work. He called my cell and we talked in circles. I told him what he was doing was illegal and he smugly said I know, so send me money and I'll stop calling you. He said he will continue to call me at work until I am fired. This is blackmail. I filed a complaint with the FBI who only said "dont send them money and just hang up" Yeah well thats all fine and dandy but in the meantime I have to put up with the harrasment. I filed a complaint with the FTC as well. Someone needs to stop this!

These people have been calling about some payday loan from years ago. When they called last week, they were from Mascot Financial. This week they are from Mars Collection Agency. Same people, same names. They have to be scammers. I hung up on them and they have called at least 20 times in the past 10 minutes. Pathetic.

I got a call from Jeanete Martin from Mars Collection. Heavy Indian accent, she said she was calling from California about a payday loan I requested to Ten Dollar in 2005. I owed 1,000 dollares and they wanted me to compromise on a payment and to confirm some personal information. I denied the debt, asked them to document it and they refused. I hung up but they kept calling during all day, from morning to evening. She gave the numer 800-670-2137.

I am getting the same harassing phone calls from a blocked number.  Today I spoke to Roger Daniels Emp ID 017 from MARS Collection Agency (800) 670-2137. and he told me the to send him $100.00 and he would send me paperwork showing the payday loan.  Roger told me that he could not send the paperwork without the good faith money.  I hung up.

Roger called me about 20 times.  I would answer the phone but did not say anything. While on the line, my other line would ring from a blocked number. They were double teaming me. This kept happening until I started talking to Roger.  I asked him why the collection account was not reported to my credit report and he told me that the agency did not want to affect my FICO score.  I told me "F... my FICO score - report me".

I believe this is a scam....I have been getting calls off and on for 2 years now.

I posted a response a few weeks ago.  They started calling again at work but no one would give them any information.  We had our phone numbers changed, too.  FYI - I had sent a letter to the MN State Attorney General.  Yesterday I got a response.  They sent a letter to MASCOP(T) Financial and told them to cease and decist from the phone calls and that they needed to respond to the letter within 10 days.  Guess we will wait and see what happens.  They sure get mad when you mess with their heads, don't they!  Have fun!

The address in Oklahoma is a real company but the Indians calling are not from there. They are mis-representing themselves as a legit company. I googled Mars in OK once they told me that's where they are from. There is a 918 area code number, I told the woman on the phone that I would call her right back at the 918 number and she said "oh no call me at 1 800 670 2137 it is free"...slick lady. But I called the 918 number and low and behold there was no woman there by the name I was given, they have no record of a debt I owe in their files AND there are no persons with an Indian accent that work there. They advised me that they get many calls a day from people just like me and they are working with authorities to help catch the fakes.
So this Indian woman called me a half hour later and I told her I will mail her bank documentation that I do not owe any money, I DID pay it back 4 years ago and I will mail it to the Oklahoma address. She said "oh there is no need to mail anything to me." I said why? because you are not really from Mars collection agency? I told her I just spoke to a real rep at Mars and that they know about this scam. Miss Indian said, "I am sorry we will not call you anymore and you do not have to mail anything to us"...could it be they are catching on they may get caught? and shut down for awhile then open shop again somewhere else with a new stolen name????

in response to aka former marine: I have been dealing with these guys for three years, get used to it , it doesn't even bother me anymore because i know they are a scam. as far as the police telling you to contact the bbb, that just the police telling you they don't care. the bbb is a joke a always will be a joke they have no power and don't investigate anybody. i have contacted the fbi and homeland security the two places that can do something but won't until they get more complaints, they basically tell you not to worry about it and hang up on them. the problem is they don't have to deal with these people. good luck

It's supposed to be *57 but it will not work on their calls. I tried it. Their number comes up on the caller-id as unavailable or unknown, and if you try the *57 you get a recording that that feature cannot be used on calls out of the area.
I found a news story about these people and their scams, I will post the link soon. It's a shame the FBI cannot do more especially when we are threatened. The one guy I talked to at my local FBI office took my complaint over the phone and told me to call the police. Wow now I feel safe in my home, and these people have been calling me everyday several times a day since monday nov 9 2009. They have cursed at my daughter, my husband, and threatend me and my toddler when they heard her playing in the background. They said they will come get me and they do not care if there is a baby in the house.

Ohh yes MARS has been calling me the last few days, I finally spoke with them this morning.  What a story to tell you guys.  They said i owed money from a payday loan in 2006.  I asked if they could send me a bill or a statement so I can review the account and pay them accordinly.  As soon as they said they can't not send anything I knew they were not legit.  They kept bagering me for money, I kept bagering them for a statement they kept refusing.  I asked them for their address and phone number,  according to the address it was the MARS official address.  But since they never agreed to send the statement I told them I would contact them once I did research and hung up.  My wife then wanting to get more information called them back on the 800-670-2137. Where a Mr Anderson gave her to a manager Jolen.  Jolen then called her a Mother F-cker.  Thats when i got the phone...  and flipped..  He then threatened to rape my wife and kill me.  I hung up called the police and they came over and took a statement.  (basiclly said to call the BBB).  Then they actually had the balls to call back several hours later.  Again threating to rape my wife and kill me..   I encouraged them to please come because I would like to see these people face to face.  When this happened we looked up MARS again online on the BBB, the phone number did not match.  Thats when my wife called the local number of MARS where the answering service picked up and said none of the names matched with anyone that worked there.  I asked the $hit eaters..  if i could speak with the Dale Rodolph (the president of MARS) they had no idea who he was..  they finally said oh which one..  we have two.  and when i said the one who is the president there was a short pause, and another "forgiegn accented man" came on the line.  I asked him a simple question asking him when the company was founded..  you would think the president would know that answer.  Well he didn't.  Meanwhile my wife found out that the hours to  MARS were monday - friday 8-5pm..  when i questioned him on this..  of course he had no answer and told me not to worry about it.  When the "fake dale rodolph" was still on the phone and he knew that we knew that they were fake $hit eaters..  he said they would stop the phone calls..

I called the local police again after the call and tehy said if they do call press *57 or *59 im not sure which one..  and then bring the bill to the police dept..  for follow up....

in response to heather, i feel for you , but contacting the ftc and your attorney general will do no good they just take the complaint , send you a letter and basically tell you there is nothing they can do. as far as the fbi and homeland security same thing eventually all they will tell you is to ignore the calls and hang up on them. even though they are scamming millions it isn't important to them. i have been dealing with these guys for three years off and on they will bother you for a month then leave you alone for two or three months and then start again with new names and phone numbers. there is really nothing that can be done so just ignore them. police, attorney generals and fbi won't waste their time with it.nothing will happen until enough people bi*** to the fbi or homeland security or until the us attorney general or congress is made aware of it. until then good luck

These people are still calling me. I had to file a complaint with my local police and because of the nature of their threats and harassment, the detective is going to forward my case to the FBI. So now I am waiting for someone from the FBI to call me or stop by. I requested a phone trap on my phone line. It will trace where the calls are really coming from and the FBI will act more quickly and more diligently then the local police. Of course I files 3 reports this week to the FTC and my state attorney's office as well.
I read that even if someone took out a payday loan and paid it back or didn't pay it back, these people stole records from many online payday loan companies. That is how they know our personal information. Even someone who inquired about a loan but never went thru with getting one, their info was stolen because there was still some personal information listed on the applications, whether or not they confirmed they wanted the loan. And if someone did not pay back a loan, they CANNOT go to jail. Worst case is a blemish on your credit report. These people are threatening to report this fake debt to the 3 credit bureaus but that is a lie because they are scammers from a fake company... it has to be a legitimate company to report to the 3 credit bureaus. So do not believe these people or their threats.
They have made threats to me and my family..used profanity when my 14 year old daughter answered the phone and they call non-stop...which is why this matter is being handled by law enforcement.

I received several calls from them while at work, they hang up.  Mr. Sean Smith finally got a hold of me at home and claimed that I owed them 508.00 from a payday loan from june of 2005 but that they had waived late fees and that they would settle for an amount of 308.00.  I asked for copies of the paperwork and they told me that they could not send any right now until I paid them the money.  I informed them that according to my bank records from 2005 that there was no deposit made on the date, that resulted in them telling me that my bank was lying to me and then asked when the deposit was made.  I told them there was no deposit on my statements and that I was filing a complaint with the attorney's general office and the FTC.

I have been doing some research. Mascot Financial was a legitimate business until a few weeks ago. They were out of Utah. Shut down due to fraud. They were a debt relief organization. MARS Collection Agency is a legitimate collection agency out of Tulsa, OK. When I called them, they assured me that they did not have a branch in CA and did not have any employees with heavy foreign accents. They also told me that they do not have any payday loan companies as clients. WealthCare Management has a website, www.medprofitwest.com. I contacted them through their Contact Us web form asking them what they know about all of this foolishness. I have yet to hear back from them.

These people usurp other companies names and use them as their own. They are liars and scam artists.

The manager (I call him The Screaming Guy) and a rep named Ruth told me that they were part of the BBB. Big lie!

Oh boy, they started back up today. Now their name is MARS financial. I aksed him hey why did you guys change your name, Ithought you were Mascot? He said we are associated with Mascot but our name is Mars. So anyway I told Joe Anderson with a very thick indian accent, to mail me a letter confriming the debt, because that is the law. He became annoyed and I told him to stop calling me, he got angry and told me they will call my number all day everyday. So I made another complaint to the FTC and Attorney General. 10 calls in less tahn 5 minutes from these idiots.

Fake Debt Collectors and Collection Tactics

If consumers did not have enough to worry about having to deal with rising credit card interest rates, late fees and over-limit fees, zombie debt, and fervent bill collectors, now we have to worry about collectors calling about fake debt.

While many legitimate collection agencies follow the FDCPA, there are some collectors out there that are only running a scam operation and will be quick to use threats and scare tactics to get you to pay up quick. Their scams turn up in mailboxes, on the internet and through the telephone every day. Some collectors pose as national banks, government agencies (FBI, CIA), or even popular celebrity stars to gain personal information. These phony collectors may threaten to repossess your house, issue a warrant for your arrest, or even garnish your pay check, all of which are against the FDCPA rules. Some of which are even laughable (for example, there is no debtor?s prison in the United States).

Fake debt scammers rely on the fear and lack of knowledge about debt collection laws within the population. They also figure that a certain percentage of their calls will be received by individuals who may be carrying debt on credit cards anyway and may be susceptible to intimidation. When collectors use misleading statements and fail to provide identification, they are breaking the law. Never pay money to a possible thief. Keep cool when you hear from collectors to avoid this collection abuse.

Many times, people who took out payday loans online in the past are most susceptible. If you took a payday loan, be aware scammers may have access to your Social Security number and other personal information, and keep your guard up against such tactics.

Ironically, real "deadbeats" probably wouldn't fall for these scammers, since they have no intention of repaying their creditors anyway. But upright citizens may doubt themselves, thinking they've forgotten to pay a bill. Many times, the sums involved tend to be fairly small, so some people may be tempted to just pay the "bill" and "get it over with."

Ways to Protect Yourself Against Debt Collection Scams

Review your credit report frequently to find inaccuracies.
Be aware of your current creditors and how much you owe.
Ask creditors for identification before you provide any information over the telephone.
Reporting Fake Debt Collectors

If you ever receive a call from anyone identifying himself as a debt collector, the law requires that the debt collector provide you with identification, and that the debt collector refrain from making misleading and threatening statements.

You can report any problems you have to your state Attorney General?s office www.naag.org and the Federal Trade Commission www.ftc.gov. Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General?s office can help you determine your rights under your state?s law.
