Prank Call
I started getting calls from this number this week. I wasn't home to answer the first few times and the same automated message was left, talking about my mortgage. I have never done any business with Wells Fargo.

The last two days, I have answered the call and a man with a heavy foreign accent asked to speak to the patriarch of the household. I say, "Excuse me??" and the weasel quickly hangs up. There is no way this is legit.

Yes, this is from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and it is a legitimate call. I looked it up after I got a call because I didn't know who it was from. However, after reading these posts I realize it is from them. I made a partial payment a few days ago and although I just made a full payment, it probably hasn't posted yet. Those who are getting calls who (claim) they have no mortgage with them are probably getting them because their number is close to someone who does and the number was entered into the computer incorrectly.

it IS in fact wells fargo, but they're calling re: someone who's been dead for a year, if the calls resuming is for the same reason. since they assured me months ago they'd take our business' number out of the list, I recorded my end of the convo this time, so i can insist they cease!

I agree. I've called many times, been transferred repeatedly for hours and NEVER received any help.
My mortgage is current, but I do owe a little for a couple of late payments, which I have been paying extra on each mortgage payment.
As a while I am VERY dissatisfied with WF home mortgage.....people are polite enough, but you NEVER really get answers or help of any kind!

When they first made contact was 4/8/2004 and asked for a person who actually works in this office and mentioned mortgage company.  I gave them the correct number to call, but still receive calls from this number of the original extension they used.  I hate these phone calls when no one is on the other end.

Yes, this is Wells Fargo or someone who has been hired by Wells Fargo.  They are extremely annoying and they do NOT keep notes regarding previous calls.  I pay my mortgage in two monthly payments (approved by Wells Fargo) but their systems have not caught up with this revolutionary concept, so a partial payment will trigger a collection call.  One day this week, I had 37 calls in one day.  One representative told me "We are required to call you every day until this matter is settled," by which I can only assume means "until this 30-year mortgage is paid in full."  My question "required by whom?" was left unanswered.  I will answer the first call each day just to be polite, but the calls continue all day.  Caller assures me (after reading the disclaimer about how "this call is an attempt to collect a debt") that my mortgage is not behind, but my partial payment will not be credited to my account until the second installment is received (I know this.  I signed something to that effect when the payment schedule was first arranged, because WF purchased my mortgage, twice, from more reputable lenders), and would I like to authorize an electronic debit over the phone TODAY?  Don't EVER authorize this!  Authorizing ONE debit with Wells Fargo authorizes them to withdraw what ever they want, when ever they want, and they can only waive the debit transaction fee ($35) once over the life of your loan.   Caller then assures me that he or she will make a note on the account that we spoke, but they NEVER DO this.  Sometimes a Wells-Fargo call goes to call-waiting when I'm speaking to Wells Fargo.

Instead of harassing people, these callers should go to training to learn how to make notations on accounts.  Think of the money they could save by not calling the same person 37 times in one day!!

I have called them about this and asked that they stop calling me with reminders about payments or advertisements and they now only call me 3-4 times in a single day until I pick up. By the 4th call there is a message about the reminder. They do not call any other day during the month after that unless it goes beyond the grace period. Again, if you talk TO them and not AT them they are very helpful and understanding. If you call to simply complain or yell, it typically gets you no where. (I'm not insinuating that you yelled)

There might be an under laying reason for their resistance. What is your financial situation? What is the status of your payments?, It is also possible that your request for assistance is not deemed a reasonable request?, etc. I have always called them first to talk to them and they are always very helpful. If you ignore them and go into collections they are less likely to assist you. Communication is the key and always be honest. If they call you, call them back or if you know you will miss a payment, let them know FIRST before they reach out to you.

Never had a loan with WF and have not have any outstanding loans anywhere for years.  Mortgage has been paid off since 2005 and credit card bills get paid when they arrive.  We get calls from this number in my google voice number which I have never used and on my wife's cell.  Wife and I have different surnames.  I'm assuming this is a random dialing thing.  Surely there has to be a way to stop these people from making such nuisances of themselves.  I'm wondering what they are accomplishing with these calls.

I will not call the number that was on our caller ID but I will call the Wells Fargo Bank in our city.

If someone is spoofing the number to make it look like it came from Wells Fargo and you call them back using that number, just be careful. Personally, if you bank with Wells Fargo, just look at your statement and call a number that's listed. Better to be safe than sorry!!

Received a call from 800-678-7986 . They didn't leave a message, which is odd if they are legit.  Kinda suspicious since we own our home free and clear and we don't bank with them and never have!

I am going to contact them myself and ask about this number calling our home number.

They keep calling MY home phone number and asking for the HOME OWNER.....
asked if there was a problem with the loan, just had to ask and mess with them but they wouldn't give any info.
They said they'd take MY home phone number off the calling list...we shall see since they call 2-3 times a day and hang up.
...tried to give them the property management companies number to call but hey didn't want it.

The customer service numbers that you use to call Wells Fargo have an automated system that does in fact ask you to enter either your acct or loan number or the last 4 digits of the acct holders social security number. I know it's legit, I call every month to make my mortgage payment and almost any number you call for Wells Fargo gives the same instructions. Perhaps someone that is a wells Fargo customer put the incorrect phone number on their acct for contact purposes....and it just happened that it was the church.

I received the same information from Wells Fargo. I am not a costumer of Wells Fargo, or associated with that bank in any way - let alone Mortgaging (I'm a renter). I have received 4-5 calls per day from this number over the last 2 weeks. Receiving no voice messages, I finally returned a call to this number and was informed by Wells Fargo that scams have been reported on this number and not to provide them with any personal information. That's no problem, but how do I get them to stop calling? It's going on three weeks and becoming incredibly annoying.

This is a scam number and not associated with Wells Fargo in any way.  I called my local Wells Fargo and they told me this is a well documented scam.  I am sure the people who have said it is Wells Fargo are associated with the scam.

From the other messages, this seems to be from Wells Fargo. We have never had a WF mortgage, so I do not know why they would be calling us. Fortunately, we have a phone that will block numbers, so we've blocked this one.

We keep having calls from this number at our church office.  I finally called the number.  It is not a legitimate WF number.  The recording asks for the account number or SS#.  No way would WF do that.  No one legitimate would ask for your Social.  And why would they be calling a church????  We don't have a mortgage with anyone!

I get these calls several times a day. I do have an account with them as well as my mortgage(but we are up to date on mortgage and aren't having any issues with our account.). It may be a scammer, but then it may not be. Wells Fargo DOES indeed own this number...

BUT...

Remember that ANY number can be SPOOFED, meaning that even though Wells Fargo does own this number, that doesn't mean that it is actually Wells Fargo calling you when it shows up on your ID. A spoofer can pay to change what comes up on your ID very easily. Even I, myself can pose as Wells Fargo and call you from that same number from my own home phone! This is what spoofing is folks. The bottom line is this, if you have an account or mortgage with them and there may be a reason for them to call you, then let the phone ring and then YOU call THEM back. NEVER answer the phone and give out any info to them if they call from this number. Scammers, phishers, etc...are getting a lot smarter in trying to get you to give away your personal info! You have to stay one step ahead of them.
