Yep, this is a call from UPS Marketing to do a followup survey after you recently signed up for a shipper account. It's not a DNC violation, so cut them some slack.

This is a legitimate business trying to reach out to its newly-signed up customers. Don't lump them into the same boat with Rachel or that a***ole calling about FBI statistics and wanting to sell you a security system. If you answer the phone and (politely!) tell them you'd rather not do the survey and don't want any more calls, they should comply.

I went ahead and answered their call today - I usually don't pick up on numbers I don't recognize - and talked to the woman at the other end.

I told her about the amount of frustration I've been reading on the various sites that come up when you google the number. She said they've been hearing about about the negative comments and have been passing that feedback upstream to... well, you know... wherever that goes.

The lady was very pleasant, and after taking my comments she proceeded to ask me a few questions about how much I planned to ship and whether I also used competitors. She finished by asking if a sales person could contact me, and I (politely) said no thanks, since I'm just using this for personal shipping. The survey took about two minutes.

If you're getting dead air and/or they're not leaving a message, that's likely a side-effect of the way the outbound systems work. It's not a person sitting there dialing your number, hearing you or your answering machine pick up and then just ignoring you or hanging up. My guess is that if it's an answering machine the system hangs up and tries again later so they can talk to a real person, and if you pick up and get dead air it's because the system doesn't have a call agent available to talk to you. Yeah, I know it's a pain, but that's the way phone centers work these days.

When you call UPS and ask them about the calls and they don't appear to know what's going on, it's because they're a big, BIG company and the people you're talking to don't know what another part of the business is doing. Happens all the time.

I have had a UPS account for over a year and this is the first time I received a call from UPS Marketing, which by the way, is NOT UPS!

Received call today....gal Identified herself as UPS..started by asking @ my shipments then quickly tried to verify my name address email etc...I stopped and asked for her call back number but she did not supply and quickly went back to trying to verify my info...I then hung up...I see This number has been doing similar stuff for years...I tried calling it and reply "all circuits busy" ...I feel like they were phishing

Changed my phone number on my UPS profile to 800-686-2700. Maybe it will implode or something.

I signed up for UPS 2 weeks ago.  Got my first call, but nobody was there.  Go to go cancel my account now, get to many worthless phone calls how it is.  Going to FEDex and see how that goes

I spoke with them. It is a marketing survey department of UPS.

Just got off the phone with a caller from this #.  It is indeed UPS trying to ask about number of packages I sent etc... I told them that I was in the middle of something and I would call them back.  I call thia 800# and it is dead.  Total bs customer care.

Got this call also after setting up similar account..Person was very military like, moving quickly for my answers..Told him to cool-it...He said he didnt know he was like this....he told me to call standard UPS
customer Service..He gave me this ##.....................A***ole....Scam?? Goverment Operation??

I received a call on my cell from this number: 800-686-2700 and no one was on the line when I answered.Called it back from a land line and after three rings a recording comes on to say "I'm sorry, you've dialed a number that cannot be reached from your calling area."  Huh? How is NY unable to call an 800 number?

It doesn't work like that, buddy. They REQUIRED a phone number (making the absurd assumption that everyone still has one) otherwise I'd likely not have given it. I could have given all zeroes, but I gave a real number so I could be reached immediately for time-sensitive matters - not for marketing BS. I trusted UPS to be professional with my contact information, and they really disappointed me. This is not 1995. If they need to reach me and they don't need an immediate response they can do it by email like everyone else. Calling someones actual phone when it isn't necessary is completely unprofessional and a waste of my time. It is worth noting that UPS is presently responsible for the 6 most recent consecutive calls in my call log. They haven't even left a voicemail - they just keep calling every few days. That is nothing short of inexcusable.

It's cool.  I received a call because I recently signed up for a UPS account.  It's really a live survey to get an idea of your expected usage.  Other than me not liking telemarketing calls coming through to my mobile, it's really an awesome customer service feature.  The guy I spoke with was very nice. They don't ask you any personal questions (e.g., credit card #, SS#). However, they do confirm your address associated with your account. And, you get to opt out of future calls (e.g., offers, specials) if you'd like.  Took about 7 minutes for me to complete.

I too recently added a UPS account to my shipping services. It fits. I don't answer calls that are unknown to me. Thanks for THIS web site, it really helps!

I also recently set up an online UPS account.  I recieved a call from this  number several moments ago, with a message of "horror movie" noises, groaning at the bottom of the male voice range, and unintelligible freak show sounding gibberish chased by (very bad) singing.  It was rather frightening until I googled the number.  WTH?

Yes, I too opened a UPS account.  Seems the call really is from UPS (likely a subcontracted phone service).
Be sure to say NO to all questions where they ask for permission to give out your information; or have someone contact you.

I opened my account with an easily changed email address; so, if they start email spamming me -- I'm gone.

I have received numerous calls from this number and no one is ever there when I pick up.

I can't get the number to dial back.  It tells me it's out of the calling area and I have tried from several different phone, including a business phone of a large corporation. They don't leave a message so I don't know who it is calling.  I just need them to stop calling.

Its UPS verifyiong your information since you just set up a new account. Cust svc reps will have no clue about this random verification process, you will need to speak to new accounts. Its an auto dialer so when you first answer you may not have a person on the line but when someone piucks up they want to verify your info.

I am getting these messages, and they are not from UPS. I have had a long standing arranagement with them, and I find them wonderful in their services......so faqr. Fed Ex has left checks open on my front steps and you have to chase them back to the truck if you are home. They don't wait for you to respond to their rings. These calls are recent and relentless and you cannot call them back.

I received a call from this number and was interested to see the comments about UPS; I also signed up for a UPS account within the last 3 to 4 weeks.

I swear you people slay me. You sign up for service with a company, YOU give them your phone number then you won't answer their calls. You start with this whole OMG its all a giant conspiracy because I don't recognize the number. Well no s!@t numb nuts they had no reason to call you before, why would you know the number. FFS if you don't want someone calling you on a certain number, don't give out that number. You signed up for the account now do your part and take responsibility for it.

Second, try answering the damn phone and being polite and just talking to the person on the other end. As has been mentioned several times they will gladly tell you what info they have, all you have to do is say yup that's me I signed up for that account, answer some generic questions about your shipping needs and move on with life. They won't ask for your SSN# or try to implant tiny transmitters under your skin. They won't ask for any info they don't already have. So chill the hell out, answer the phone and stop being a scared little girl, not everyone is out to get you.


As for the other departments at UPS not knowing about this number. Stop and consider, the people you will talk to when you call UPS are involved with the logistic and shipping side of the company, they could work there for 40 years and never have any contact with web account verification or any department related to such.

I signed up for UPS online and now I'm getting harassed day after day!!
My girlfriend picked up on the very first call from this number and the person on the other end asked to verify my information. They asked for me by my full name and said they were UPS.
My gf said I wasn't home, but she can help verify and THE VERY RUDE PERSON JUST HUNG UP ON HER WITHOUT SAYING A WORD!! Great customer support UPS!!!

Now I  get called at least a few times a day from this stupid number and it's just a static line with no one talking. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS?!? And these places wonder why they are losing business. I will never use UPS again. I'm canceling my account and filing a harassment claim on BBB against UPS.

Also, when you call their number back it just rings and rings ( so they are obviously hiding behind a spoofed number. Very lame UPS....

I have received 2 calls from this number, but apparently it is a UPS thing - since I also recently opened (or reopened) my UPS shipping account.  Funny - they should leave a message with a call back number.  Oh well...

I have had this number call 3 or 4 times over the past few days and as most of you, recently opened a UPS account.  I have not been available to answer the call previously and they did not leave a message.  Today, I answered it and it was indeed a representative from UPS just calling to confirm my account and to see if there were any questions I had about my account and which services I would most likely use.  It seemed to be more of a new customer survey trying to see which products most people were interested in using more than anything else, but he was polite and helpful and didn't try and sell me anything.  He did ask if it was ok that he put my local UPS driver in touch with me to establish contact and I told him that was fine.. We'll see what happens, but I was fine with the contact today from them.

I also signed up for UPS they have been calling twice a day. I call back and Verizon wireless comes on

Set up UPS account last week, received the call earlier today... missed the call didn't leave a voicemail ... Something fishy here
