Debt Collector
My neighbor across the street told me someone had called for me at her house?? What did the message say I asked her so she played it for me & it was from Meading Hall & Associates. She said it was in regards to a civil action suit against me & to call them. Well the same night my mother-in-law called my husband to tell him the same thing...she lives in NY & we live in NC. I was getting mad bc we don't owe any outstanding bills so I decided to call my mom who lives in concor, nc (about 20 minutes from where we live in Charlotte. She told me that they had also called her twice that day regarding a debt. The FUNNY thing about all this is 1. They have never called to talk with me or my husband & 2. We don't have any debt! I worked for a collections attorney for many years & this is not how the collections process goes. TThey are just trying to scare you into paying something you don't owe just to get them to stop harrassing you & they make you think your credit score is going down the toliet if you don't pay up. Stand up to them & don't let them intemidate you into doing anything your not sure about! They freaking called my neighbor don't I have the right to take action against them! Those people are out of their minds crazy!!

This is SUPPOSEDLY a debt collecting company who DO NOT maintain their records properly. They have been calling me for 3 years now, and asking for a person who does not live at our address. Every time I tell them that, they say "Ok we will take your number OFF the list" and guess what they call right back the next day! It is so irritating, I wish they would stop. They have called at least 26 times so far!!!!!!

It is a call from National Action Financial Services.  They may or may NOT be from my bank who holds my mortgage (Bank of America).  B of A has been calling me EVERY month starting on the 5th and every day thereafter asking if I am gonna pay the morgage to keep my loan out of foreclosure.  The month they are trying to so desperately collect for? THE CURRENT MONTH!!! SO they call me Feb 5, 2012 to STOP forclosure on a mtg payment that is DUE on Feb 1st but that I still have 11 MORE DAYS to pay b4 it is even late!!! (insert some Choice Words Here!!) Phillip Whitsling (sp?) is the rep who calls from NAFS.

If they are calling on behalf of debt unders someone else you need to find out explicit details on who is calling you - company name, address, phone, etc.  Ask them which company they are collecting this debt for.  It's important to find out if they are the original merchant or a collection agency which the account has been farmed out to.  Then write and deliver a certified letter to both the originating debt company and the collection agency explaining that the person they are seeking is no longer at your number and that you are NOT the person responsible for this debt and that they are to cease immediately calling you and that failure to do so will result in a lawsuit.   If they call again you can sue them under the provisions laid out by the FDCRA (Fair Debt Collections Reporting Act) and the FCC - who prohibits repeat calls to people with which the caller has NO business relationship.   Make sure to file complaints with the FCC, BBB, and most importantly the Attorney General for your State of residence.

Keeps calling to settle a some debt that I apparently owe. Funny thing is, he doesn't know my name, and gets combative when I refuse to give my information to him. A real debt collector would receive that information from the bank, if they needed it at all. However, their number is 1(800)mypenis, so at least I get a good laugh when they call.

the do not call list does not apply to debt collectors; it applies only to telemarketers selling products or services. complaints about debt collection calls should be reported to your state regulator and the federal trade commission www.ftc.gov

This company has been calling while I was at work.  Today I was at home and picked up to receive a digital message stating they were looking for someone (who I do not know) and they are a debt collection agency.

This is in violation of  the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and (honestly pisses me off when they do this).  So I called them to inform them they must not tell 3rd parties that they are debt collectors and the consumers name.  They told me they were not voilating anything even after I quoted the Act from the Federal Trade Commission.

So I told them I'd sue them if I get 1 more phone call and that I always wanted to own a debt collection agency.  Then went to the FTC and registered a compaint against them.  I suggest others do this as well, it't the quickest way to get these jokers shut down.

Got a phone call asking for my name with my maiden name from years ago on my 8 year olds cell phone! Didnt leave a name just a number to call back before 10pm. Said it was an attempt to collect a debt communicating for a debt collector. Does not make any sence at all. How the hell would they even get my daughters number who has a cell phone under her grandmothers cell account? Does not make sence to me at all. Like im really going to call you back or answer your phone call!

Call says it is from a debt collection agency but I do not have any overdue accounts, my bills are all current.  Caller calls at least once a day, very annoying.  Has been calling for several months now and I know that a legitimate collection agency would have sent a registered letter by now.

Every time you get a phone call report the phone call to the Do Not Call list and other agencies. Also keep updating these forums.

Do Not Call List
www.donotcall.gov

Federal Trade Commision
www.ftc.gov

State attorney General
www.naag.org

If you decide to call them don't give out your name since they probably have the wrong number.  Make them tell you who they are calling.

If they know your name then make them put any debt they claim you owe in writing.  Do NOT admit to owing any debt and make them mail you a letter first.

Do not give out your bank account number, social security number or credit card number over the phone.  They may try high pressure tactics to scare you and get you to pay over the phone but don't do it.  It the conversation sounds even a little bit threatening file a police report.

Rec'd a call today (July 15th, 2010) at 3:31pm PST. The caller ID shown: Toll Free Call.

I am so glad I had caller ID & Privacy Manager. Although didn't help much, it definintely made me aware and not just pick up any phone call.

I got the canned message, debt collection, etc....I preferred to deal with debt agency that send me a letter than someone who call and irritate me.
