THIS NUMBER IS A LEGIT WELLS FARGO FRAUD PREVENTION NUMBER
Got a call from this number today, seemed legit, they ran off purchases etc while I looked at my account to confirm them, only info I had to give was my zipcode. Said they would cancel my card and send me out a new one.  I called (1-800-to-wells) right away after the call and had customer service connect me to claims department.  Asked If that call I got from 800-704-0855 was fraud and he said it must not have been because my card was just cancelled and I have a new one being sent out.

I received two missed phone calls from this number and they never left a message.  When I called them back, an automated voice said it was the "Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention Line".  I then hung up and called the Wells Fargo number on the back of my debit card.  Customer Service said it was NOT a Wells Fargo number, most likely a phishing scam, and expressed relief that I didn't divulge any personal info.  If you get a call from this number, do not answer it or go through the procedure.  Check your bank transaction history right away for any unusual activity and give Wells Fargo a ring for good measure.

It is Wells Fargo Fraud line. They do not ask for any personal info. They leave an 800 # to call from the same phone they left the message on, which is the # you gave the bank when you opened the account. When the autobot answers it  immediately identifies itself and then asks if the $20 charge today in San Fran at a restaurant was yours, was the $300 from an online company from france that was denied was yours and the $25 at a grocery store in such in such town was yours. If yes, press 1 , thank you, good bye.
From experience, if you do not do this, your card will be suspended until you call customer service who will in turn repeat the exact same charges the autobot confirmed.

I couldn't find the number in the internal database via advanced search, but that doesn't mean its not one of WF's. However, its is very easy for scammers to fake/spoof the number they are calling from. The voicemail wanted me to call  yet another number I did not recognize. The scammers would be the ones most likely to come to sites like these to report that a fradulent number is not in fact fraud, I don't see people coming here or anywhere to report a number is not fraud unless they work for the company and identify themsevles as such.

Received calls on June 6 2014. Happened to be at my local Wells Fargo branch when it came in. The branch manager looked it up and found it was the fraud department. He called for me and we found that a hacker from China had just tried to charge an online purchase. Bravo! They actually caught this scum. My card was inactivated immediately. Although
I take the posts on this site to be gospel, it is common sense to check then double check everything you read online. For me this is good. Make up your own mind based on what you find. I did advise WF that they should have caller ID say something other than toll free call.

IT IS NOT WELLS FARGO.  These are folks trying to get you to give them your Social Security Number, your account numbers, your birth date, your passcodes.  It is definitely a scam.  I have discussed this with Wells Fargo fraud department and they will NEVER ask for this information over the phone.  You know your bank ALREADY has all of this information and would NEVER ask you.

If you think the number is a scam, call the number on the back of your card. When a rep picks up the phone,  immediately ask to be transferred to the fraud prevention department. Don't ask the customer service people if the number is legit because they will have no idea. Wells Fargo is a enormously huge company and a customer service rep will not have every number listed. Anyway, after you are transferred to the fraud prevention department, ask THEM if that num 800-704-0855 is valid, or a scam. They will all unequivocally say that the number is VALID. THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO DO!!! Everything is not a scam people. Use your common sense and follow the method that I posted, and you will know for a fact that it IS NOT A SCAM.

The world seems to be getting dumber by the minute.

Received a message from someone identifying themselves as Wells Fargo fraud prevention.  The message went on to say they were concerned about some recent activity on my cards and wanted to verify with me.  I called the number 800-704-0855 from another phone.  After entering my zip code I became concerned and hung up.  I decided to check the phone number on the internet.

It is a true WF number. However, if someone lists their phone number incorrectly on their WF account, guess what? You're not going to get notified. Instead, the person who owns whatever phone number you listed will get a phone call. Even though I don't have a WF account, WF Fraud Prevention is calling me. I called WF to verify the number. They transferred me to that Fraud Department. However, the automated options are "are you so-and-so" and, if not, "please have so-and-so call us". No operator. No person. No way to notify them to stop calling me because the account holder listed the wrong phone number!

Believe it or not, this phone number is legitimate. I did let them know that it sounds VERY sketchy and suspicious with that automated voice recording, though.
I would actually advise against calling this number back if it makes you uncomfortable; otherwise, if you need to know about your account activity, just call the number on the back of your card because it's definitely safe.
What they did for me was direct me to their account activity/fraudulence department number [(888)293-7475] and I told them I received a call from this 800 number; I was informed that it's simply their automated system that sends out messages advising people to call. Otherwise, your card could be frozen/unable to be used.

I see all the negative feedback on this number, but that's a good thing I guess if not I wouldn't be writing this here. Got called today from this number, was in a meeting and had to call back. It is Wells Fargo! They had 3 transactions on my check card they had already declined which i confirmed was not authorized by me. Never asked me for anything they recognized the number I was calling from and the cust. service rep. addressed me by my first and last name and asked me to confirm if xyz was still my zip code.
I had to confirm this was Wells fargo after reading all the crap on the internet about this number so called 8009564442 - one of the numbers listed on their website and had this confirmed. I will have my new card arrive in next 7 - 10 business days.

This scammer is trolling people so well lol... FYI, if a number doesn't belong to a scammer and is a 100% legit. People aren't going to jump through hoops to prove that the legit number is legit, because they don't give a s*** then :/.

In the future do what I do. Record a fraudulent phone charges scam phone number (the scams where they call you, you call back to ask why, you get charged 100 dollars every minute you stay on the line). Let scammer call you. Give scammer other scammer's phone number when the ask. Rinse. Repeat.

This is how it works. They compromise an e-mail, the password, and your security questions. They wait till you make a bunch of purchases online. They figure out that you're a Wells Fargo customer from your e-mail too lol. They call you pretending to be Wells Fargo. They know what you're purchases are because they have your email. They know a bunch of stuff from your email to fake legitimacy. You guys get trolled.

If you want to make numbers like this not want to call you anymore you:

1) Record the phone number of a frivolous charges scam (basically a scam where they call you, you call back to figure out why, you get charged 100's of dollars a minute) which you can find online.

2) D****ace scammer tries calling you and you answer.

3) They ask for your number and you give them the number of the other scammer.

4) D****ace gets tolled a bunch of money while trying to scam you, problem solved :D.

I received a call from this number today claiming to be Wells Fargo Fraud Line saying that there was a fraudulent charge on my account today,  stupidly i believed them. They asked me some info. They said they had deactivated my card and started a claim, even gave me a fake claim reference number.  After getting off the phone with them I googled the number, and called my banks REAL number and they verified it wasn't them, they don't even make outgoing calls. So they deactivated my card for real, and started a real claim, and told me to file a police report. So after getting off the phone with my bank i called the police and did just that!

This phone number is legit... when you call back they do not ask you for any private identification information. They read to you some of your recent transactions and ask you to confirm if they were all initiated by YOU. In my case, I reserved 2 hotels in a foreign country, which is what triggered them. I called, pressed "1" to confirm I had, in fact, authorized the charges, and it noted so in my account. There is NO RISK here.

Just called Wells Fargo fraud line at the number my bank rep gave me and they stated their dept had not called and my account was fine. My advice do not call this number back and take a chance with your account, speak to Your local branch or call the number on the back of your card

This is definitely not a phishing call, unless someone else somehow spoofs the number. Got the call today - it was Wells Fargo confirming a purchase I had just made, to ensure it was not fraudulent. I did not answer when they called, but they did leave a message identifying themselves as Wells Fargo and stated the named on my account.  Returning the call proved that it was indeed a legitimate call from Wells Fargo.

I saw this site after I did a reverse look-up for this toll-free number.  I called Wells Fargo to report what I thought was a "Scam" call and it was a legit call from their fraud unit.  They put a block on my account to verify charges.  One for $317 (went through) and a pending for $670.  They verified all my other recent charges, canceled my current ATM and issued a new one.  Both of these charges were for online purchases.  Thank heavens they caught it when they did!
I'm glad for sites like this though, because there are so many scam calls, letters and emails going around that you can't be too careful!

I got a call from this number.  They were asking for someone with a Mexican name.  I do not have any accounts with Wells Fargo which was the first tip-off.  Second, I've had my phone number for twelve years.  This is a pure Phishing Call.

This is a SCAM!! Do NOT call back and give any of your information!
I just called Wells Fargo and they confirmed that this number is NOT from Wells....and they DO NOT have a Fraud Dept. that calls on customers.  The person told me that they are just getting a lot of customers calling for the same reason.  DO NOT RETURN CALL to (800) 704-0855 and give out your personal info!

I received a call on my cellphone 3 times in 1 day from this number.  The 3 attempt the company left me a voice mail saying that there had been some fraudulent activity on my card.  I called Wells Fargo fraud department and found out that someone had actually tried to buy something at a Lady Footlocker for $110.00 with my card!  Call your bank first to confirm!

Received a call from this number, i did not call the number back but I did call the number on my card to ask them if there was any fraudulent activities in my account.  YES someone tried charging over a hundred dollars - the bank immediately identified the charge as fraud and blocked the charge and cancelled the card.  Glad I called the number on my card.  The call was legit!
