Hollywood video called with an automated message to say I had an outstanding video out on my account.  I know that this is not true as I have not used the account in over a year.  I don't need my kids woken up from their naps over their telemarketing.  I am goint to cancell my account.

Hollywood Video.  Called twice in the last two weeks.  If you call the 800# back, it gives you the chance to remove your number from their calling list.  Whether that actually works remains to be seen...

2 missed calls, no message. Called back, can confirm it's Hollywood video. You can add your number to their "do-not-call" list to avoid these calls in the future.

If you just call the number back there is an option to "no longer receive calls like this". Just let it tell you the original message first, then listen to the options. It's option 2. That's what I just did.

After reading this thread, I received a voice mail from this number.  I listened to it.  It sounded friendly from the voice I heard, even though I could not hear the whole message.  I decided to call it back and It was Hollywood Video offering me a FREE VIDEO.  Of course, I will show up for my FREE VIDEO!  I welcome FREEBIES!  Yippeeee.  Thanks everybody for sharing your reports, so I would know how to handle the number.  I am relieved it is not a collection agency!!!!  I will add them to my calling list, so I will know who is calling me in the future.  I could use some good news today!  :o)

DDeH, thanks for the link to contact Hollywood... I sent them a strongly worded email, letting them know I will NEVER rent from their store and to remove my cell phone # from their promo list. To answer your quetion.. No, I haven't received anything back from them!!!!

800-708-5356 is the event/promotional automated service provided by a 3rd party from Hollywood Video.
Store locations can only put your account on hold and does nothing to stop the calls.
TO TAKE YOUR PHONE NUMBER OFF THE CALLING LIST:
Call Guest Services @ 877-325-8687. Ask to have your number removed from the calling list. Once Completed THEN CALL: 800-893-5370. It ONLY takes 1 minute. I promise.

I just got a call from this number. No message.

I emailed them and told them spamming people's accounts for their phone number is not the way to get business, mailing a letter is better. I recommend everyone email them, maybe they'll stop this kind of crap.

I emailed them - see my earlier post for details and I actually got a reply. Hopefully this will end their calls to my phone. I encourage you all to do them same, threatening to cancel you account if you receive more calls is always the best motivator for these guys.  Cancelling an account is your greatest weapon.  Here is their flowery, corporate response:

2 missed calls in the last 2 days on my cell phone.  No message.  Called the number back and it was Hollywood video.  

Pressed '1' to listen to a promotional announcement about a free rental.  Don't care.  Pressed '2' and attempted to add my number to the do not call list, but it didn't work.  WTF?  Stop calling.

they keep calling my cell and the worst part is you can't answer - no matter how quickly i answer, it disconnects immediately!! when i called the number back, it gave me the option of entering my number to not receive the call again, but it didn't seem to read my number. it just got the last 4 digits and disconnected.

I received a call last night on my cell phone from this number. There was no message left.

The call was a recording asking me to watch a movie.  I'm on the national do-not-call list.

This one is Hollywood Video. Its for a free rental. I just used mine last weekend. If you go into a hollywood video store and tell them about the call(s) they will tell you you have a credit for a free movie rental already applied to your account. Its just a way to get you back into the store.

The first time I got this call, I didn't answer it.  Thankfully, I found this website.  The second call, I answered the call and go ta free rental from Hollywood Video out of it!  It's legit.  When you do business with a company, they have a right to call you regardless if you are regsitered on the do-not-call list.   Religious and charitable organizations can call you as well.  Hollywood Video would be better off it if just left a message, rather than raise red flags with the disconnect.  My only regret is that I rented a movie that wasn't very good.
