Yeah, but the number we are discussing is 800-709-4041 so of course Scotiabank is not going to have the number you just said on their list. Give them the right number to check and then post your answer.

This is a legitimate Scotia number.  Last night I received a message to call 1-800-709-4041 about a "personal banking matter". I called and followed the prompts, giving the 3 digits in my postal code and digits of my birthday.  Then a message told me that one of my Scotia accounts was past due a small amount (under $100). Then I was given the options: "Press 1 if you've already paid this balance. Press 2 if your intend to pay within the next 10 days."  I pressed 2 and hung up and immediately thought. OMG! Why did I just do that?
This morning I called the number on the back of my bank card (1800-4SCOTIA).  I was greeted with the same automated system. I didn't speak or press any numbers and was transferred to a live person. He told me that they use "many, many" 1-800 numbers for this type of automated message and he could not verify the number.  I told him about the suspicious call and what I did. He offered to check my accounts for any past-due payments owing.  He did actually find one, for the amount quoted in the original suspicious message.
I made the payment online while talking to the representative and then made a complaint about their system and told him about this website and all the (justifiable) trash talk.  He said he has heard that before and that he will pass on my concerns to his manager.

This IS Scotiabank calling. I was 8 days late with my mortgage and they were calling to ask/advise about my account.  If you get this call, best call it back- or if you prefer to believe it is a scam, phone Scotiabank and ask them to check your accounts (Mortgage/credit). They were friendly, and I made the payment in online banking. All is good- but oops, I was late!

This number is definitely not a scam. I got a call from them and believed it was a scam at first too, so I called the number on the back of the card. Sure enough, I was a week overdue on my car payment. So I would suggest to not call the number back or give any information to the automated message, but call your branch or the number on the back of the card and talk to a real person.

Block the call , if you can , if not don't answer it . We have no dealings with Scotia Bank and this number calls every three to four months , then goes away for about six months . Then the same scammers or tele-idiots call from a different number , so we block that too . We keep our phone numbers registered at the National do not call center .Works for about nine months or so . Then the cycle starts all over again , the first to call will be 1-000-000-0000 then 1-800-709-4041 . These guys have been up to this scam for about three years now , and still no letter mail from Scotia Bank collections or any other collection agencies , don't waste your valuable time and effort calling these educable people back , if you have legitimate banking issues they will still send you letter mail the old fashioned way ;)

I also have a car loan with the bank, but no account.  I checked my online banking first and saw that I had no missed payments.  So for my security, I called ScotiaBank customer service. 1-800-472-6842.  The rep advised "there is no record of 800-709-4042 on their list".  It is not a legitimate ScotiaBank number, and he cautioned "do not call it".

It is a scam. Been playing phone tag back amd forth between scotia and this number and scotia has a policy where they DO NOT ask for phone numbers. They have other questions that you gave them answers for when you opened your account. Get a real job!

Suspicious phone call! Anyone who asks for persona l banking information during a survey as part of a telephone survey should be reported and then ignored. Bank of Nova Scotia will show up as your local area code on your call display and not a 1800 number! If your institution is planning to survey you or contact you about your official personal banking within your local institution it will show on your call display as your local institutions phone number!

This IS not a legit scotiabank call. I DO have a car loan with Scotia but I have NEVER missed any of my payments ever as I have an impeccable payment history. Not one missed payment. My car loan is on an automatic debit payment plan so it takes it from my account directly. I have called Scotiabank directly and they have advised that it is Phishing and that they never ask you to enter your information pre-call...pre-speaking to someone directly. What the phishing place does it ask you for the info, then you stupidly enter it and then they give your number to a lot of other phishing companies. If you missed a payment and you got this call, I stay that it is pure convenience....not a legit payment reminder. On that note, maybe start paying your bills on time and see if the calls stop? Then if they don't you know that the rest of us who say it was phishing were right.

received a call from this number on my cell phone ... do not know the number, so did not answer, but waited to see if a voice mail was left ... over an hour later, no voice mail was left.  I think (note: my opinion only ... not necessarily correct) that a legit caller would have left some kind of message, so I feel that this is likely some kind of fraudulent (scamming?) call.  Please be careful, just in case.

I've delt with these guys befor. For me they are just 3rd party collections for scotia bank. I was behind mortgage payment and they called me from day one. All they do is get your general info and look up your info and say hey you owe for this when can you pay. They still call me to this day but i ignore it now. It's been 2 years and no Funny buisness or anything. Scotia has even said that this is true. No fraud about it.

I don't believe this to be a Legit number for 1 reason.. I do not have a balance on my credit card, it has been paid off for months, so why would they be calling me for an outstanding balance?? BEWARE!! do not give out any info to anyone over the phone, refer to the number on the back of your card if you have any concerns..

Annoying!  Glad I read the posts here before calling "Scotiabank".  This number has called me multiple times a day for a least a week now.  So frustrating.
