Updated info.  OK.  I am sick of these people calling me, so I have basically begun to harrass them back.  I have called them about a million times/each time asking for their Bar #.  I have been hung up on numerous times.  Finally I was given #4928 and told that they are registered with the Bar Association out of FL.  Soooo, I went to Florida's Bar Association website and put in that number.  That Bar # belongs to an attorney out of Utah and stated 'not licensed to practice law in Florida'.  So I called back and was given #27591 again out of FL.  Sooooo back to the website I go.  This time to be told that is an invalid Bar #.  Legally we have no recourse to stop these crooks from harrassing us as they are not even within our boarders.  But it sure doesn't stop us from harrassing back.  I suggest we mount a campaigne to call the crap out of them and tie up their phone lines...They can't make any money off poor, ignorant suckers if they are busy dealing with us pissed off people.  Just a thought!!!

They called my wife today claiming me and her committed fraud (he didn't state what kind of fraud) but the fact he named my wife by her maiden name and not by my last name which she has been carrying for 5 years made it clear that it was fake.

We never got any loans or anything together before she changed her last name since I was going through the immigration process at that time.

This is the third go around with these people in about 6 months.  Each time its a different 'company' collecting a debt.  Caller left a message on my voicemail to call this number back.  said his name was Davy Jones with a very heavy Indian Accent (right!!  his mother didn't name him that...clue 1 that this is a scam).  His VM was very threatening...I was going to jail if I didn't take care of this matter (clue 2) you can't be jailed in this country for owing money...it's written in our constitution.  But his English was so poor, I couldn't really understand all that he was threatening me with...so it wasn't really very frightening.  And like I said this was the third time I have dealt with this.  I called back, asked for the law firm's bar # so I could verify with the Bar Association that they were a legitimate legal firm....I was refused.  I stated I owe no one money, so tell me who the company is that hired them so I can deal with them directly...I was told no.  When I proceeded to tell them that I was not falling for their scam that I can not be jailed for owing money...they hung up on me.  DoNOT give these people money...if we keep falling for this fraud, they will keep frauding us.  Let them get real jobs and earn their money the hard way like we do.  And who knows, this might be some sort of terrorist organization using this scam to finance their terrorist activities..  makes me wonder why homeland security isn't concerned about this activity.  To at least investigate these people who are no doubt in India.

Called repeatly about a paid day loan. I have never taken out a payday loan with anyone. I started asking question then they would answers some then hangup and call back. After the third call my co-worker took the call and told them that this is my place of employment and not to call anymore. She ask them to leave a number and I would return the call. They gave the # and then proceeded to tell her the reason for the call and what I supposely have done. She told him that is not her business and they should not be given that kind of information out to anyone who answer the phone. She told they that are not very professional and that they are crooks and they hung up. This guy names was Larry Cooper.

I can't wait for you guys get caught, and they eventually will. I pray every day that they are caught and prosecuted. Whoever Mike is, keep posting on here so you can be traced and caught and you will, eventually you will be caught. Good will prevail, not EVIL.

These people need to stop wasting thier time and find another scam to pursue. There are blogs everywhere on the internet about them and the stupid telephone numbers they use. If any victim does thier homework they will realize its a scam and ignore them. They are not going to get money this way, not by threatening people and harrassing them.

This is the lowest of the low....threatening people at their jobs, hey idiots! news flash...no one can send you money if they don't have a job because they lost it because of your stupid phone calls.

Let's bring a class action lawsuit against these companies who have sold or not secured our information! I bet we'll win.

Debt Collection and Creditor Harassment Abuse Laws - Section 806 of the FDCPA.
Creditor and debt collection laws (federal and state) are designed to stop the abuse and harassment from collection agents and employees of creditors trying to collect debts. This section of the FDCPA outlines illegal tactics such as threats, obscene, profane, or abusive language and telephone calls designed to scare you into paying a debt right away!

What is harassment and abuse - 806
Threat of violence is illegal - 806(1)
Obscene, profane, or abusive language prohibited - 806(2)
Publication of a list of debtors prohibited 806(3)
Advertise debt to coerce payment prohibited - 806(4)
Repeatedly calling you by telephone is harassment - 806(5)
Calling without meaningful disclosure or legal purpose- 806(6)
Up 1. Section 806 prohibits a debt collector from any conduct that would "harass, oppress, or abuse any person in connection with the collection of a debt." It provides six examples of harassment or abuse, section 806 (1) - 806 (6) below.

Scope

1. Prohibited actions are not limited to the six subsections listed below as [53 Fed. Reg. 50105] examples of activities that violate this provision.

2. Unnecessary calls to third parties. A debt collector may not leave telephone messages with neighbors when the debt collector knows the consumer's name and telephone number and could have reached him directly.

3. Multiple contacts with consumer. A debt collector may not engage in repeated personal contacts with a consumer with such frequency as to harass him. Subsection (5) deals specifically with harassment by multiple phone calls.

4. Abusive conduct. A debt collector may not pose a lengthy series of questions or comments to the consumer without giving the consumer a chance to reply. Subsection (2) deals specifically with harassment involving obscene, profane, or abusive language.

Up 2. Section 806(1) prohibits the "use or threat of use of violence or other criminal means to harm . . . any person."

1. Implied threat. A debt collector may violate this section by an implied threat of violence. For example, a debt collector may not pressure a consumer with statements such as "We're not playing around here--we can play tough" or "We're going to send somebody to collect for us one way or the other."

Up 3. Section 806(2) prohibits the use of obscene, profane, or abusive language.

Abusive language includes religious slurs, profanity, obscenity, calling the consumer a liar or a deadbeat, and the use of racial or sexual epithets.

Up 4. Section 806(3)

Prohibits the "publication of a list of consumers who allegedly refuse to pay debts," except to report the items to a "consumer reporting agency," as defined in the Fair Credit Reporting Act or to a party otherwise authorized to receive it under that Act.

Up 5. Section 806(4) prohibits the "advertisement for sale of any debt to coerce payment of the debt."

1. Shaming prohibited. These provisions are designed to prohibit debt collectors from "shaming" a customer into payment, by publicizing the debt.

2. Exchange of lists. Debt collectors may not exchange lists of consumers who allegedly refuse to pay their debts.

3. Information to creditor subscribers. A debt collector may NOT distribute a list of alleged debtors to its creditor subscribers.

4. Coded lists. A debt collector that publishes a list of consumers who have had bad debts, coded to avoid generally disclosing the consumer's identity (e.g., showing only the drivers license number and first three letters of each consumer's name) does not violate this provision, because such publication is permitted under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

5. List for use by investigator. A debtor collector does not violate these provisions by providing a list of consumers against whom judgments have been entered to a private investigator in order to locate such individuals, because section 805(b) specifically permits contacts "reasonably necessary to effectuate a post-judgment judicial remedy."

6. Public notice required by law. A debt collector does not violate these provisions by providing public notices that are required by law as a prerequisite to enforcement of a security interest in connection with a debt.

Up 6. Section 806(5) prohibits contacting the consumer by telephone "repeatedly or continuously with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number."

1. Multiple phone calls. "Continuously" means making a series of telephone calls, one right after the other. "Repeatedly" means calling with excessive frequency under the circumstances.

Up 7. Section 806(6) prohibits, except where section 804 applies, "the placement of telephone calls without meaningful disclosure of the caller's identity."

1. Aliases. A debt collector employee's use of an alias that permits identification of the debt collector (i.e., where he uses the alias consistently, and his true identity can be ascertained by the employer) constitutes a "meaningful disclosure of the caller's identity."

2. Identification of caller. An individual debt collector must disclose his employer's identity, when discussing the debt on the telephone with consumers or third parties permitted by section 805(b).

3. Relation to other sections. A debt collector who uses a false business name in a phone call to conceal his identity violates section 807(14), as well as this section.

This guy somehow has my work phone number and just called me 5 times in a row and I have to try and be discreet and not scream at him at the same time.  They have also called my cell and my daughter's cell (how they got our numbers, work, etc., is beyond me) but when I leave work at night, our phones are transferred to one of our agents, so if they get a call, it is really going to be embarrassing.  I did not borrow money from whatever company he is referring to.  What do I do to stop him from calling me at work?  I have already contacted the police.

Hello All, please do not take the calls from this number seriously. I got a call from these people and I laughed at them. I am 22 years old. My dad works for a news channel. Mom is an FBI Agent.  Block this number if you can or when actually speaking to them record the conversation. I actually listened to the guy who says I owe money from some cash loan.  I know I don't but I could care less about their scam and told them verify with my bank that no such transaction happened. I don't have no loans but they knew last 4 digits of my social. This is the 1st time any company pranked call me. But my mother knew exactly what to do. Let' Just say if anyone ever harassed me in the past boys, scams, etc, or if they want to do it now, my family is the wrong family to mess with in a very non threatening  way. Just know the law and your rights and you won't panic to calls like this. I assure you to google the number and see how many people it's happens to. Change your number if you want or take actions. Or don't lose any sleep over it. Know the law and your rights.

I'm still waiting for you to answer my previous questions to your last comment MIKE....which is NOT your name but for the sake of not calling you what I want to call you...why don't you answer my questions??  And why did it take me at least 50 calls and continually being hung up on to finally get a bar # that was supposedly out of FL and when I went to FL's Bar Association web site and put that # in I go info back from an attorney in Utah and it read right accross the screen 'not licensed to practice in FL." and when I called back and was then given another bar # again out of FL....and entered it in and got back 'not a valid bar #'.  So obviously you are NOT a law firm as you claim.  AND if you were collecting real debts, you would know it is illegal to give that info to our friends/families/employers, all you are allowed to do (IF you can not locate someone is ask about location info NOT tell them a persons private business).  But you have my #, so there is no need to call my friend and my son and harrass them and tell them my personal business...that is illegal.  And BTW...I don't owe anybody money, I pay my debts and my bills...so YES YOU GUYS ARE THIEVES AND SCAMMERS....

I received several calls from this same number at my work today. The man had a thick foreign accent. He claimed that I had gotten a payday loan from them and I would be arrested if I did not pay the amount they said. For one, I did not ever have an account with these people. I had to change my bank account and move all my auto pay bills over to the new account because these people had somehow gotten my bank account number. There is no way to keep them from calling except to block their number or get a new number. I acted quickly today and as I was changing all of my bank account stuff the company tried to force a 3100 withdrawal that failed then a 2600 one that again, failed then an 1100 withdrawal that failed. I and the bank called the FBI and reported the number and the two names I was given, which by the way sounded like the same person. The two names that were used were Steven Mark and Robert Davis. This is a definite scam and they are relentless.
