I used to work for that department (800-723-5533) was our fraud departments number for WF, one of about 10, we will ask you for some personal info as it is required that we do so, stop posting fake news. Also if you call a WF bank in like Tucson Arizona they probably wont know what the fraud dept numbers are.

Do not give anyone information if you get called from this line.  The real WF Fraud protection will NEVER ask for your full Social Security number and date of birth.  They will only ask for the last four digest of your SS#.  This 1-800 number is asking for both which is not a WF policy.

This is fraud! They want you to give them your cc number and the code on the back! Your back would never ask that! They already have it!

I never call the numbers back that they verbally give me. I call the number on the back of my card, and let it go from there. I also never give out any personal information (card number, SSN, address, etc.) unless I am the one initiating the call. This is a scam, they let the phone ring twice and then hang up if you don't answer.

I called number on back of my card to speak with someone with wells fargo.. they stated that the number does not come up into their system for them... and they would leave a message to call back if there were a problem... so curious what this number 8007235533 is.. I called it  and does say wells fargo but then again anyone can have a recording saying that.. Confused...

Some one or maybe a machine call to my cell phone asking for one of my relatives, stating was from Wells Fargo Bank and my relative needed to call back to the Fraud Prevention department and give me this number to call.
I checked WF bank 800 #'s but not one was as the number I am reporting. So I suspected and check it online, then i found that other people had got the same fishing call form this number.

800 723 5533 was Wells Fargo Card Fraud prevention. They did not ask for any info except to verify activity.

This is NOT a WF number, it is a scam, do not give them any information. I just called WF and they do not use any of these numbers, nor do they ask the same "verification" questions this automated message asks. If they call, hang up and dial the number on the back of your card, this way you know your money is safe, and they can report the number and notify their customers.

I didn't receive a phone call from this number, but I have been receiving multiple e-mails from "Wells Fargo" about my account activity asking me to call this number if I believe the e-mail might be fraudulent. These e-mails say things such as "cheque #XXXX has cleared", "you have received a transfer into your account" and "your bank statement is ready to be viewed".

The thing is, I don't have a Wells Fargo account and I have never had an account with them. I looked up the fraud number online and found this website so I decided to forward my e-mails to their phishing department to deal with this issue. It looks like there are conflicting reports here because the company behind this is probably posting "good" stories about this number. Of course I echo the advice of others: just call the number on the back of the card and then you can rest assured that you will be fine.

I called 800-723-5533 and Wells Fargo answered.

Got an automated call saying they were from wells Fargo fraud protection asked for my son and to press a number if he was available and another number if he was not. I pressed that number andan automated voice said he could call 18007235533 about suspicious activity on his wells Fargo debit card. Instead we went on their website and looked for this number. We could not find this # anywhere on their website. We then called the number on the back of his card. Yes there were charges attempted and declined, but she also said that the 18007235533 was NOT in her wells Fargo directory as a wells Fargo number.  So my conclusion the people attempting to change on the card and the people at this number are one in the same. They tried to use the card didn't work so they call to attempt to get the info they need for it to work.  Just an idea

I received a call from this number and did not answer. No voicemail was left so I called it back after reading the notes here. It was WF fraud prevention and asked for my card number. I said I didn't feel comfortable providing it and the girl on the phone told me to call the number on the back of my checkcard & tell them I received a call from the fraud prevention department. I did it & it was indeed a call from Wells Fargo. They were calling to go over some unusual activity on my account. It all checked out & they "un-flagged" my card.

I called WF at the number on the back of my card, and learned that someone was using my card fraudulently. A lock was already in place on the card. (The 800-723-5533 was apparently legit, although they hung up before I could answer.) DYDD, but I'd suggest calling the number on back of your card if you get a call from -5533.

Same deal here....we got several calls from that 5533 number. I spoke to one woman....she had most of the info. Follow-Up calls top the MAIN WF number with a request to be transferred to the fraud dept. verified that that 5533 call comes from their fraud department, that my ATM card had been attempted to be used, that they had caught the charges and denied them, that they had closed the account and were issuing a new card. They also verified the claim number and that the call-back number which had been given to me was legit. So far, so good. Like the above writer, I'll report back if I get any further attempts at hits.

Received call, caller left message requesting callback re. Wells Fargo Credit Card fraud investigation. I did call back. W.F. agent reported several definite recent fraudulent attempted charges, most of which the bank had denied. Reportedly they will refund the few small charges they allowed, block the card and issue me a new one.

It is a dilemma because they can't or won't deal with your issue unless you give them your card number. Calling the number on back of card was unsuccessful on this occasion. I took a chance and gave the agent the card number. I'll report back if I got stiffed. If not, praise to Wells Fargo Fraud stoppers.

18007235533 is a SCAM! SCAM ALERT!

They pose as "wells Fargo Fraud Services" and leave an automated message with your name.  Called back "Claudia", gave name, then she immediately requested CC#.

The scammers will also post here and state contradictory statements.  WHY NOT CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!

I received a call that went to my answering machine from this number alleging it was wells fargo fraud protection. I don't have any accounts with Wells Fargo. The Call ID stated Toll Free Call.

They state that they want to verify charges on my account. Caller wanted a call back number to different 888-293-7475. I did an Internet search it.

Blocked my number from another phone  when Researching Incident! Incoming greeting wanted to transfer me... even before anything else I  hung up.

This is a scam!  I just talked to a very nice customer service rep.  Nothing wrong with my card, and it is NOT THEIR NUMBER!  BEWARE!!!!!  These scammers are on these sites posting false information in the hopes you will answer or call back.

I'm getting calls from 773-913-2569 and it says to call Wells Fargo because someone is using this # and it's fraud.  We don't even have an account w/Wells Fargo

No it isn't!!!!!!!!!!  I don't even have an account with them and they keep calling me.

(800)723-5533 IS a LEGIT #. Any other # is not. The Wells Fargo fraud dept called from (800)723-5533 but they did not ask for any information like everyone has stated. They didn't even ask for my name. They had my information all in front of them already. They closed my account due to fraudulent activity that I had previously called WF about. Right after I called the card # & they confirmed my bank account was closed.

This number called me today. It said that a charge to FTD Flowers has charged to my card. I missed the call so I called the number on the back of my WF card. I asked the rep if their fraud dept tried contacting me and they said no. I asked if there had been any attempted charges to FTD flowers and they said no. Even WF said that this 5533 number is NOT AFFILIATED WITH WELLS FARGO. You are an idiot if you believe that it is and you deserve to have your identity stolen.

If it was Wells Fargo then why when you google the telephone number do a bunch of these 'Who's calling me?' websites show up. If it was legit, wellsfargo.com would be first on the list.

If you believe the caller ID on your home phone you are an idiot also. You do realize they can register that number by that name. Hope you enjoyed giving them your acct number and SSN. And to all of you who hung, pat yourself on the back. You actually have common sense

The voice message said to call Wells Fargo at 888-293-7475 with my card number available (They listed the last four digits of my card).  My caller ID showed as 800-723-5533.

This 800 number IS NOT listed on their contact page.

Someone else on this site reported the 888 number above as non-existent for Wells Fargo.

Wells Fargo fraud department

I got a phone call from 8007235533 asking me for some information. I refused to give and asked for a number to call back. She gave 800-556-0605.  I checked this number, it is Wells Fargo's Fraud department. I called and the lady told me - "the call was a fraud. 1. Wells Fargo never asks for private info over the phone. They obtain it in person. 2. Wells Fargo never calls a customer fpr such issues as late as 10 pm".

I know there are gadgets that can modify the caller ID to make a different (a legit) number appear.  BE CAREFUL!
