I got a call from them earlier this morning. A truncated voicemail was left of a machine stating something about "if you're the owner of this account, press 1, if not, press 2." Given they called my cell phone which isn't tied to any account, I contacted PG&E myself at the same number and in their commands list they include "If you received a suspicious e-mail or phone call from this number." Clicking that, the machine stated that PG&E is aware of a scam going on using this number and people asking for money.

So sometimes it may really be PG&E, and sometimes it may not.

Yes they are spoofing PG&E and trying to defraud.

There is a way to sign up free for a service called nomorobo to stop these annoying robocalls. My problem is that my landline carrier, AT&T, currently doesn't support Nomorobo because they need to add the Simultaneous Ringing rejection capabilities to their service. I've called AT&T, as the Nomorobo.com page suggested, to request they help stop spam calls with this, but they don't seem to care and have no solutions of their own that worked (yes I even paid extra for one of their products that was supped to help, of course... it didn't!
SO, I decided to use AT&T's call forwarding service to make AT&T understand the problem a little better and I suggest others do the same.
After I get a spam call I enter it into my "call forwarding list" (*63). The number I have dialed in for the call forwarding is: AT&T (Traditional Landline) Customer Service 1-800-288-2020
I'm hoping if they start to get the same number of spam calls I get - they'll decide it's worth stopping the problem.

Definitely spoofed caller id; the scumbag telemarketer says he's with Clean Energy Foundation and working with several solar contractors to install solar systems at no cost to the homeowner. Yeah, right.

I was in backyard watering vegetables., when I returned inside the house. My phone showed " Missed  call, Unavailable, 800-743-5000.  02:08 pm, March 19." When I returned the call. The company is PG & E ( Pacific Gas & Electricity ) told me. It is some one used their phone  number to call people. PG & E didn't call us today, there are no power outage in our area today.
As www.800notes.com many people reported this unwanted call since 12/10/2008. They number is false/spoofed.

I have been receiving calls from this number many time a day. When answered, it was silent then hung up. Very annoying.
I have tried to call back and it was PG&E. I tried to contact operator but had to wait for a long time. Decide to hang up and saved this number in my "call block" list.

This number has been calling my unlisted number (on the DNC list) daily for several days, never leaving a message. I finally answered and got a delayed automated message: "We have determined that you are eligible for an energy tax credit....... This is not a sales call." Like that means it's not a sales call and makes it legal? How special. Anyway, press "5" for more info, "3" to no longer receive these calls. I pressed neither, so that's all I can share here.

They called me today for the 5th time in 5 days. Here is something from the Berkeley CA police department in 2013:

http://berkeley.patch.com/groups/police-and-f ... are-of-pge-scam

Berkeley police issued a warning this morning, Friday, about a scam in which a caller pretending to represent PG&E tells people that they are behind on payments and must electronically wire $500 to keep their electricity from being shut off.

The department has received a number of calls in the past week about such calls in North Berkeley, police said. The man says the funds must electronically transferred and provides the telephone number (559) 800-7403 to call to make the wire transfer, according to police.

"This is a scam!" the police department said. "If you do receive a telephone call from a person stating they are PG&E, you can always call into PG&E yourself to confirm.  PG&E?s customer service telephone number is (800) 743-5000."

PG&E never asks for immediate payment with a cash card over the phone or in person, police said.

The police department alert also relayed the following tips from PG&E:
PG&E?s Credit Department will not ask for personal information or a credit card number over the phone.  Anyone who has received such a phone call and provided credit card or checking account information should report it immediately to the credit card company or bank and law enforcement.

Customers with concerns about the legitimacy of a call about a past due bill, service request or request for personal information are encouraged to call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.

Customers should always ask to see identification before allowing anyone claiming to be a PG&E representative inside their home. PG&E employees always carry their identification and are willing to show it to you.

If a person claiming to be a PG&E employee has identification and you still feel uncomfortable, call PG&E?s customer service line at 1-800-743-5000 to verify an appointment and/or PG&E?s presence in the community. If you feel threatened in any way, notify local law enforcement immediately.

Customers who have an appointment with PG&E will receive an automated call back within 48 hours prior to a scheduled visit, or a personal call from a PG&E gas service representative prior to a scheduled visit.

Anyone who has been victimized by the scam and lost money can report the fraud by calling Berkeley police at (510) 981-5900.

3 calls to PG&E to confirm it is not them but someone (solar?) company using their name and caller ID. They called me again so I will temporarily block number from PG&E to see if that stops them.

I suspect that whoever is calling is merely spoofing the Caller ID. I've been letting that call go, but we picked it up today. It appears to be someone selling solar panels. If it were really PG&E, they would have identified themselves.

Update: It's a known scam. PG&E has more information on their website. I can't post the URL, because WhoCallsMe has some kind of filter. If you go to PG&E's website (pge dot com) and click on the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page, you'll see their notice.

The URLs in Dell's post are not valid. WhoCallsMe uses a filter on these posts. If you want information about Anveo, just type "anveo" and append the usual dot com to the end.

I NEVER answer my  phone and always let my machine pick up messages. I've made a log of every call I get that keeps calling and never leaves message or talks etc. I have called and written/sent in my log of phone numbers and times called to the
FCC and surprisingly they have responded well with advise both written or during conversation. You can take these spammers to court like one man did about 15 years ago  to Wells Fargo when he  got fed up with the time wasting phone calls coming at all hours of day or night. It made the 9o/clock news and in the press for the $5000 per phone call awarded to the
complaining party. I'm not sure if it was AT&T as it was about 15 years ago and don't know who was the big phone company was at that time; Do some research and find out. When I called the FCC last month they told me I could go to small claims court and possibly sue for $1500 per call submitted and proved, I never delete the numbers until I have made a visual record of the callers information showing on the phone. What have you got to lose?..............

It's hard to trust the telephone lines as I have had to with 55 illegitimate telemarketers. I bought a condo so my number was put in the public records. The bank didn't sell my number, these guys just check the records for fresh meat the records office told me.

Stupid spoofers using PGE number. Most likely burglars checking to see if your home. If it is Verengo Solar I think you should contact the FTC and report them immediately. These solar fraud companies are popping out like cockraches to s***. I like to give my address in Compton so they get to meet the boys in the hood.

Got a prerecord about new energy.  Pressed a key to find out who it was: "Connected Energy Foundation".  They wanted to know my electric bill.  They wanted me to go solar for no money down. I answered some questions and was told I would be connected to Verengo Solar, but first Connected Energy wanted me to agree to receive automated calls.  I was then connected to Verengo.  I complained about the call, but Verengo could not identify the caller right then.  A manager is supposed to call me back.  The CID number is PG&E's line, but it would be spoofed.
