I too received a call from this number and they are now called Santander.  They wanted my account number and last 4 of social.  They couldn't tell me why someone was calling unless I gave them my account information.  Since I know my account is in good standing, I choose not to give this information out because there is no reason for them to be calling me.

JeS, why don't you identify yourself as a Sovereign employee?  And yes, the other people on this site have a right to be annoyed; I just got one of these calls, because my payment is after the 1st of the month, even though they clearly state the mortgagee has a grace period until the 16th.

I have been receiving these harassment calls from Sovereign Bank everyday for 2 YEARS! They refer to myself or a person named Angela, who they say is my wife. I called them back, told them they have the wrong person. They expect me to give them my social security number to identify myself! I have subsequently told them that they clearly have the wrong person and that they are harassing me. I have never had an account with this bank - ever. I really would like to sue them for harassment.

I got a phone call from Sovereign Bank too - it was extremely strange.  This is not acceptable.

SimplySuzy, not true. Your branch does NOT call you for debt collection. Pay your mortgage (or loans) on time and you won't hear from them.

It's not a scam caller, it's Sovereign Bank's Mortgage (or debt) collection department. I have a Sovereign Bank mortgage, AND I used to work there for 6 years. They just want their money, its not a scam. Pay your Mortgage, on time.

Sovereign Bank Mortgage Department. I was able to confirm my identity with them by confirming our monthly mortgage payment, then they were able to confirm back my personal details included the check # that I paid my last bill with.

This caller called for the first time today.

It is the legitimate Sovereign Collections department.  But, I too called the number and gave them my account number.  They had my phone number, my name and my account number.  But, they would not confirm any of my personal information to prove they were from Sovereign bank.  I agree with Mike S.  Call the regular Customer Service number and ask them to check the status of your account.  They can transfer you to collections if need be.

its legit. Sovereign Bank's Mortgage department. odd business practices, they should know not to call people and ask for personal information. to be safe just hang up and call the number that's on the Sovereign website.

I received a message yesterday from Sovereign Bank with the 800-753-7366 number to call. When we returned the call the man said they most likely were updating contact phone numbers on accounts.
I called Sovereign today and was told that is a valid number for the mortgage collections department. I still would not ever give out social security numbers or anything of that nature to any unknown caller.

I just received the same exact call. I called them back gave them my phone number & 1st name. When they asked me for my last name I said they first had to tell me the nature of the call. Then I was rudely told they couldn't tell me the nature unless they had my information. So I hung up. This is obviously some type of phishing scam. BEWARE

We just received the same recorded message from Sovereign, asking us to call 800-753-7366.  I am not going to call them back, as my branch would call me directly if they needed something.
